We should get there, but Arsenal now are proof that you can't throw youth in all at once and expect good results. I am finding that it's a frustratingly slow process though.
Ciaron Brown has had 43 games in the SPL or Championship - I'd say only starting to look comfortable at this level Brentford away onwards - and likes of Sang and Bagan are someway off that yet let alone new faces we're just starting to see.
I really want to see back-line of Phillips, Sang, Morrison, McGuinness, Nelson, Bagan given a run together this year with aim of fixing our defence for next season, and therefore being able to give more forward players (Bowen in CM?) the support Bagan's got so far, but it might be that McGuinness plays RCB first if judged to be a position less in the spotlight.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Finished 3-1 with Zimba getting a second. City finished much the stronger after a competitive first three quarters of the game and there could have been more goals.
Zimba, clearly buoyed by his three year contract, played as well as I’ve seen him, but there were plenty of good performances today as they made it two wins from two.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Good result. Zimba's banging in the goals.

I certainly hope so. I have no problem with mixing youngsters with the more experienced players. I don't want to see us playing a swansea type of style but wish we'd mix things up a bit, and be less obvious. It was great to see Colwill taking players on on Saturday, moving their midfield and defence around to create space for others.

"As I've mentioned before, we look for players that won't block any existing pathways for development, and that's exactly what we've done here. We want our U23 players to have that clear pathway so that they can develop well into senior professionals."
Now that's an interesting quote. Are we the anti-Chelsea in refusing to stockpile players?
Might it extend to senior side too: if we've got two young LB's we believe in we're not going to sign an older head to create competition?

We are two nil up at half time.... Predictably Evans and Zimba.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
3-0 up in added time, a second for Evans that draws a "what a goal" from City's Academy Twitter account!

Can't wait to see if these lads get a breakthrough into the first team this year.

Good start to the season, and good to see the players pushing for first team spots doing well.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Do they do extended highlights for the youth matches? I'll never watch them live and the snippets don't offer much bar the obvious action.

Away games are rarely live unless we are playing clubs who stream their u23 games. All our home games are streamed live in Cardiff city TV
As for highlights, we are very much at the mercy of the home side, in this case Wednesday.
Evans second goal (our third) sounded very good. A free kick.

There’s a thread been started showing a video of the goal.
Sure it’ll be the normal five minute highlights package on the club website - our next two games are both at home, against Sheffield United a week on Tuesday and then Millwall the following Monday, so they’ll both be shown live.

Under 18s kicking off at Wigan at 11 o clock - looking at the team sheet makes me realise that it's been a long time since I saw the Academy play live, most of the names mean nothing to me.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
What's happened to Mayembe? He seemed on the verge of the first team under Neil Harris

There was some talk of off field problems last year when he missed a lot of games through injury. He played in some of the pre season matches and I think he may have played in the Under 18s first league game,.
By the end of last season, he had made the progression to the Under 23s squad on a regular basis and had done well as a sub a few times, but he's not featured for them at all in their league games so far.
Finished 7-1 - "a big learning curve for a very youthful Bluebirds side" according to the Academy Twitter site - to be fair, they did have a few Under 16s in apparently.

Lovely goal by Zimba to put us 1 up - we're playing well so far.

Like the look of Semenyo at left wing back.

D'Almeida - playing on the other flank. Also looks good.

Think he must be injured because he was picked for the Welsh Under 18s in that mini tournament they played during the international break, but didn't feature for them at all.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Finished 2-0 to City to make it four wins from four. A nonchalant penalty in added time by Keiron Evans sealed the win after he'd been fouled by the keeper.

Semenyo MoTM for me, or possibly Patten.
Semenyo was composed at the back and showed some excellent pace and flair going forward.
Sheff United are a decent unit and were no mugs... But I thought city showed a lot of maturity and control, even when out of possession.

Really good to watch skillful football being played on the deck, best game I've seen this season. Sheff did their part, a good outfit. McGuiness should be playing CB in the first team but who do you drop? Nelson is the only one with real pace, the others seem entrenched. So expect to see him at full-back. If we can keep this squad for another year or two we will have a really good first team provided of course we have a Coach who can play that way instead of old-school football. The game has moved on big time.

Really enjoyable wasn`t it Jeff. The 92 people there (attendance given by the steward on the way out of Gate 2) were entertained by two teams who could actually play with good passing and movement. All of our u23s would put the experienced pros in our first team to shame with the quality of their first touch and accuracy of passing.
We had wing backs who actually could both defend and attack (and have an end product when they got forward), centre backs who could do all the basics of defending but were actually comfortable with the ball on the floor and could pass to teammates instead of just lumping it forward, midfielders who could pass and move and run past opponents with the ball and forwards who were quick and not afraid to get shots away.

How did the young sub Cian Ashford look. Walesonline reckon he looks a real prospect.

He came on as a sub in the second half and nearly scored immediately.. a little like the last game when he scored against the other Sheffield club.
Nice to see the U23s developing and if their transition to the first team is done well (I don't think it is currently) we could have a crop of real gems for years to come.
D'Almeida looks to be growing into a right wing back position although he did move into a more natural centre mid position in the second half He's very solid. Semenyo was in the other wing back position and really caught the eye. Tracks back, reads the game well.... Very quick and skillful and takes players on at ease... He looks more like a natural winger to me than anyone else in the entire squad.
Connolly caught the eye at the back along with McGuiness who certainly must be close to a run in the first team... Rarely played long and his passing accuracy must he excellent. Along with Denham at the back it makes an interesting trio with a little bit of everything... Tackling, pace, passing and some exceptionally well executed professional fouls!
Patten And King did ever so well in the middle when often being outnumbered. The pace and movement in front and to the side of them really helps. Davies also makes himself available and goes looking for the ball. A quieter game for him today though.
Zimba continued his scoring run as did Evans. Both will learn the game and make better decisions... A few times they took the wrong option but they are explosive and work well together.
Ratcliffe, the keeper, also looks very good at this level.
