A new report on Thursday revealed chilling new details of the circumstances surrounding the killing of the famous Gaza surgeon Adnan Al-Bursh in an Israeli prison in May.
A captive at Israel’s Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank told Sky News how Israeli forces left Dr Al-Bursh, who had been severely tortured, to die alone in agonising pain and naked from the waist down in the prison’s yard.

I have written to the Israeli ambassador Tzipi Hotovely in London today asking her to intervene in the case of the little Palestinian girl Maziona Damo - the one who has the terrible injury to her face. She needs to go abroad to get the surgery she needs as it is not possible in Gaza. I pray that she will have compassion on this little one and take some action. I understand the ambassador has daughters of her own, so hopefully she will do something.
Also sent a copy to my M.P. and David Lammy. Can I encourage others on here to do the same in addition to the usual handwringing debates on this forum. If you want a copy of the text of my letter to use as a template, please P.M. me.

Mohammad was 12, a football-mad teenager who spent his days dreaming of a career on the pitch and his last minutes practising ball skills. Ghassan was 14, a quiet, generous teenager who ran errands for elderly relatives, with an adoring six-year-old brother who stuck to him like a shadow.
Both boys were shot dead this summer by Israeli soldiers, victims of an unprecedented surge in attacks on children in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
In the year from the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, Israeli troops and settlers killed 171 Palestinian children there, equivalent to one death almost every other day, according to UN data. More than 1,000 others have been injured.
The youngest victim was a four-year-old girl, shot dead when she and her mother were sitting in a taxi near a checkpoint in January.
Officially there is no war in the occupied West Bank, and the scale of death in Gaza has overshadowed the losses there. But children are dying in greater numbers than at any time since the Israeli army seized control of the area in 1967.
jon1959: I believe in God and anyone with the blood of innocent children on their hands (literally or metaphorically due to their actions or inactions) whilst they may think they have got away with it for now, will have to answer to the ultimate judge one day.
Jesus said: “If anyone causes one of these little ones to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea". (Matthew 18:6)......Ouch!
Have you thought about writing a letter (not an email) to the Israeli ambassador? They say an M.P. sits up and takes notice if he/she gets more than 10 letters about a single issue. What they are less interested in is receiving multiple cloned emails to which they can simply and quickly send out a generic reply. A good old fashioned snail mail letter is a different proposition. Maybe ambassadors work on the same principle - who knows! Worth a try anyway. Certainly better than venting your feelings on a football forum!
Gofer Blue: I write lots of letters and emails, and do many other things for the causes I believe in beside 'venting' on a football forum. But I think any letters to Tzipi Hotovely will be a complete waste of time and ink. Mark Regev was bad - she is off the scale. When even Melanie Phillips is appalled by the extremity of her right wing views, you get a sense of the problem.

According to Hotovely there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza, mixed marriages should be outlawed, all of Palestinian land should be siezed and incorporated into Greater Israel, there is no such thing as a Palestinian or Palestine, she is in Likud but a close friend and ally of fascists. And those are her good views and qualities.
The Na'Amod (British Jews Against Occupation) petition didn't make any difference, but in calling on the UK government to reject Tzipi Hotovely as Israel's ambassador (there have been precedents) they laid out a very clear case:
"Hotovely has an appalling record of racist and inflammatory behaviour from throughout her political career. This includes:
* Inviting the far-right Jewish supremacist organisation Lehava to speak in the Knesset (the Israeli parliament)
* Publicly opposing relationships between Jews and Arabs
* Referring to Israeli human rights activists as "war criminals" and comparing them to a fifth column
* Accusing Palestinians of being "thieves of history" who have no heritage or connection to Israel-Palestine
* Calling for the Israeli flag to fly over the Temple Mount – a violation of the status quo in a holy site for both Muslims and Jews
* Stating that the occupation is "a myth" and, as Settlements Minister, directly upholding Israel's illegal presence in the West Bank
* Leading the campaign for annexation and claiming that biblical texts entitle Israel to the entirety of the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea"
This is not the same situation at all. I am not trying to negotiate a peace settlement on behalf of the Palestinians, in fact my letter is completely non-political and in it I am simply appealing to the ambassador to seek authorisation for a child (and her guardian to accompany her) to seek urgent medical treatment in another country. I don't see that that is being naive. Obviously there are probably hundreds of "Maziona's" but I am only aware of this one.
One small and isolated piece of good news. Any reply to your letter Gofer?
https://www.theguardian.com/global-d...ical-treatment
According to the UN children’s aid agency, Unicef, there are an estimated 2,500 children in Gaza in urgent need of medical treatment they cannot receive in the territory, where most health infrastructure has been destroyed over the past 14 months of war. It said children were being evacuated at a rate of fewer than one a day.
FAJR Scientific, a medical aid organisation, has been trying to evacuate Mazyouna for treatment to the US since June. “Due to months of delays, Mazyouna’s condition has deteriorated significantly,” said Mosab Nasser, chief executive officer at FAJR Scientific, who flew to Jordan on Wednesday to accompany the family to the US for treatment.
Nasser said children in Gaza were being denied the medical care that could save them and were then prevented from leaving for places where help awaited them, with the Israeli authorities making exceptions “only when it’s too late”.
He cited the example of four-year-old Elia Younis, who suffered fourth-degree burns and amputations after an Israeli airstrike near her home. Her mother, Eslam, also suffered severe burns and blood infection but was denied medical evacuation and died last month.
“We recently evacuated Elia to Jordan but she now has sepsis and is lying in an ICU in Amman,” said Nasser. “Doctors warn she might not make it – all this could have been avoided if she had just been allowed to evacuate sooner.”
There are many who still pay attention to God's unchanging *Word instead of the ever changing ideas of men. The Wales sized strip of land known as Israel continues to not only survive but prosper in many ways despite the agenda of so many surrounding their land (and elsewhere across the world). So while people like you will continue to assume that people like me approve of every decision they make in seeking to survive and prosper, the impact of the Jewish people on the world will mainly be suppressed in the minds of those who would rather see them once again scattered and/ or finally exterminated.
* Many rock solid promises given to them 2,500-3,500 years ago have actually come to fruition during the lifetime of some individuals here on this board who have been watching City since the 1946-47 post war season.

US Senate rejects Bernie Sanders effort to block arms sales to Israel.
Moves to advance three resolutions all failed, garnering only about 20 votes out of the chamber’s 100 members, with most Democrats joining all Republicans against the measures.
Sanders introduced the measures in September as Israel continued its assault on Gaza – which has killed at least 43,000 people.
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s extremist government has not simply waged war against Hamas – it has waged war against Palestinians,” Sanders said a press conference held on Tuesday ahead of the vote.
“Much of what’s been happening there has been done with US weapons and American taxpayer support,” Sanders continued, adding that the US has provided more than $18bn in military aid to Israel and delivered more than 50,000 tons of armaments and military equipment.
“The United States of America is complicit in these atrocities. This complicity must end.”
....
More than 65% of housing, schools and healthcare facilities have been destroyed by Israeli forces, according to UN data. All 12 universities in the territory have been damaged or destroyed, according to Wafa, the Palestinian news agency. The UN also estimates that about 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million Palestinians have been displaced. Humanitarian groups on the ground have reported malnutrition and starvation and global food security experts say famine in northern Gaza is imminent.
A spokesperson from Oxfam, a British non-governmental organization that has been providing aid to the displaced in the region, said: “The Senate must vote to finally end arms transfers to Israel, as we see the crisis continue to escalate with warnings of imminent famine and entire communities being permanently erased in North Gaza governorate.
“Israel is blocking humanitarian aid, and is meanwhile using US weapons in attacks that have killed thousands of children, aid workers, and journalists, destroyed schools, hospitals, vital infrastructure for clean water and more, and displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, where there is nowhere safe.”
https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...gaza-vote-veto
The US has vetoed a UN security council push to call for a ceasefire in Gaza that Washington said would have emboldened Hamas.
The resolution demanded “an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire” in the war between Israel and the Palestinian group, along with “the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages”.
The UN security council voted 14-1 in favor of the resolution sponsored by the 10 elected members on the 15-member council, but it was not adopted because of the US veto.
Thanks for the info jon1959.
Wow, that is good news indeed. Not quite sure how to interpret this paragraph though. Does this mean that the little girl is now in Jordan or will this Dr. Nasser have to go into Gaza to retrieve her? If the former at least it means the Israelis have allowed her to leave Gaza or if the latter then there could still be complications knowing the way the Israelis can be obstructive blighters. Either way it is an answer to my prayers for this girl - look at the timing!!
I doubt the Israeli ambassador has even seen my letter yet as I only posted it on Tuesday. Will be interesting to see if I do get a reply.
I have stated on more than one occasion that there is no country in history that is innocent during such times of conflict of actions that are totally unjustified and that would obviously include Israel. Me or anyone else making declarations on such atrocities is not going to impact the reality of each situation, but how we each react to fellow human beings certainly will have an impact on all future relationships and God has provided us with what are now world famous stories such as the 'good samaritan' to teach that practical love should be expressed even to those that may be considered to be our enemies.
Mazyouna Damoo, her mother and her sister (all injured in the same Israeli attack) crossed into Jordan early this morning. Her father was not allowed to go with them and has been left behind in Gaza. I can't see any details of when they will be able to travel on to the USA for surgery and further treatment.
This may be 'an answer to your prayers'. But I think it is more likely a response to negative international press coverage that was causing major embarrassment to the Israeli government. But the vast majority of the 2,500 children in Gaza in the same position did not get that level of international exposure and are going nowhere.
About time too.

Did God back everything David did which included adultery the death of a man standing between him and the woman he wanted?
Obviously not, but David repented and went on to be one of the most successful Kings in history.
And firstly I didn't say God backed Israel's actions in Gaza and secondly you'll need a more robust position to defend your stance of atheism than events in the middle east!
I am saying nothing has changed since the days of David, God has (for reasons only known to Himself) chosen one race of people to be the race that He ultimately blesses the world with, He already knew in advance of their disobedience when He made the *promise to their father, Abraham, yet He honoured and continues to honour that promise. I'm sure like many of us, He is appalled at their recent actions, and not for the first time. However as His prophet Zechariah stated around 520BC, Jerusalem would prove to be “An Immovable Rock for all Nations” (12:3). Anyone with even a passing interest in history would be be aware of this.
* That promise - “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. (Genesis 12:2-3)
Thanks for that update. There has been a lot of negative international press coverage about the whole Gaza situation but I don't see much in the way of embarrassment within the Israeli government!
I don't expect to get a reply from the Israeli ambassador but if I do I think it will say something along the lines of "look, we ARE helping the Palestinian children - we have allowed the girl you named to leave with her mother and sister to go to Jordan" and quietly forgetting about the thousands of others as you say.
Let's see how this case works out. I'd be happy to write to the ambassador again and remind her of these anonymous children who are in a similar position. As you may remember I posted a while back that I have already written to my previous M.P. and the previous Home Secretary about a Kindertransport type scheme for Palestinian children but this idea has been rejected out of hand because of the sheer scale of the problem; but if limited to just those children who are in need of immediate surgical intervention, then in conjunction with medical charities it may be viable?
I don’t pay much attention to what you post normally, but you’re a Christian aren’t you? Are you seriously saying that all Christians have no alternative but to pardon the atrocities Israel has committed in 2024 because of what 12:3 of what I presume is the book of Genesis says?
If you aren’t a Christian and you’re a Jew, there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of them who would have a problem with your interpretation based, as it is, on the book which says the world was created in six days.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...against-israel
About time this sort of article appeared in the mainstream media. No surprise who wrote it.
....
And last Monday, there was global outrage at the killing of two Gazan footballers, Eyad Abu-Khater and Hisham Al-Thaltini, in Israeli air strikes.
Obviously I’m joking about the last one. Nobody gave a shit about that. Or any of the 344 Palestinian footballers killed by Israel since last October, or the fact that teams from Israel’s West Bank settlements play in their domestic league in violation of Fifa rules, or that the Palestinian West Bank league has been suspended indefinitely.
In the face of this, inaction begins to feel like its own conscious choice. It’s six months since Fifa promised a prompt ruling on whether or not to impose sanctions on Israel’s national team for the actions of its government, and we’re still waiting. It’s four months since Israeli athletes competed at the Olympic Games after the International Olympic Committee president, Thomas Bach, declared: “We are not in the political business.” It’s two months since a major Israeli assault on Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, destroyed the town’s main football stadium.
....
But we know, or we should know, right from wrong. Killing children is wrong. A government that declares some humans as more worthless than others is wrong. Presiding over a famine is wrong. How is this complicated? How is this the start of a debate, rather than the end of one? How is it remotely possible to frame this horrific extravaganza of violence as the benign option, and the resistance to it — even when it comes from Jews themselves — as some kind of sublimated hatred, rather than the simplest act of conscience there is?
To resist this Israeli regime is not incompatible with resisting a Saudi World Cup or a Russian Olympic team or a Taliban ban on women’s sport. Indeed this is one and the same resistance: a resistance to the doctrine of untouchable power, a resistance to violence and othering as the solution to our common problems. And even if sport is a blunt and pointless tool of social change, it must nonetheless be deployed. Because there remains – even in this warped, ****ed fairground mirror of a world – a thing called right and a thing called wrong.
