it didn't turn out to be far from the truth. the unions actively encouraged members to join the labour party and to vote for Corbyn. The fact that we had such numbers joining from unions shows my claim is not entirely without merit. the fact that Corbyn won by the margin he did shows that the unions coordinated activities got the man they wanted to lead the party.

perhaps you can explain why the unions set up call centres, printed and distributed forms if they weren't encouraging members to become affiliate members so they could vote for the union man like you have claimed.

Corbyn's biggest asset is his authenticity and genuineness and that mustn't get lost in spin, jargon and PR speak. However, sheer volume of media requests, media intrusion etc will demand that he gets himself a good press agent and I can think of nobody better than Owen Jones, a man who shares his beliefs, is very media friendly and, I understand, already a trusted ally of Corbyn.

Until you do your union claim will remain hyperbole, which in turn shows that your other outrageous claim (that usage of hyperbole automatically implies that you're joking in any given thread) is also a pile of feedy bullshit.

You don't need to respond to that, he's now claiming everything he said in this thread was meant as a joke and we have been "whooshed" for thinking otherwise.

Re: Corbyn's interview (or non interview) with Sky on Sunday
I am a member of Unison and haven't had anything directly from them to encourage me to vote for Corbyn. I thought that might be because (as an early retiree) I am categorised as a 'retired member' and I don't think the system allows me to opt in to pay the political levy - but my partner is also in Unison and pays the levy and she got nothing either.
I am on the email list for Sheffield Trades Council, and they were quite active in promoting Corbyn (and either Eagle or Watson for deputy). However, the Trades Council works through its affiliated unions and doesn't communicate directly with individuals (other than the delegates and those few dozen others on its email list)
I think most active union members would know that the majority of trade unions (through special conferences or executive decisions) supported Corbyn in the leadership election. However, I saw no evidence of a general campaign inside Unison (or some other unions where I have close friends) to persuade members to sign up as affiliated supporters and vote for him. In fact it was such a clunky process to sign up as an affiliated supporter that I (and many other TU members) went directly to the Labour website and signed up as an individual registered supporter - and paid the Ł3/Ł10.
The truth is that Corbyn spoke to and for the vast majority of Labour supporters and members in all categories and they voted for him because of what he said and what he represents. It didn't need (and didn't get) any heavy handed trade union nudge to achieve the victory. Jeremy Corbyn won the election, not Len McClusky.

I'm not sure how I can be "talking out of my arse" when I'm not trying to claim anything and as for you now trying to claim I'm obfuscating, well, someone posted an article on here yesterday about how sociopaths tend to accuse others of what they're guilty of... I suggest you read it.

This is just typical feedy, going around the houses to try to validate an inaccurate claim he made. The alternative is to concede he is mistaken and of course, that can't happen so we have to go through this dance for the umpteenth time.
