I think you're guilty of knowing little about football, as evidenced earlier in the thread when you seemed to think Belgium win tournaments.
Well the Belgium insertion was just a slip .
England are nowhere near being the best European country on honours .....what makes people like you think they are anything more ?
We have had a bad tournament but England are out , yet again and people are hanging on their coat tails ?
When there is a prize for getting out of the group stages then get back in touch

This team plays the game more fluently and can compete with the best, hence their appearance in a major final last year. They may experience some psychological effects from their recent near misses but from a football perspective they are knocking on the door.
As for Wales, it pains me to say it but they are not on the same planet as this England team.
Christ another one
They have been knocking on the door since 1966 mun
I can't believe you are all being sucked in . I think Gazza and his crew in 1990 looked the real deal . England last night went out with a wimper .

No one has said England are one of "the best European country on honours". We all know Germany, Italy, etc have won more.
There's no sucking up to big brother or hanging on to their coat tails by just admitting they have a strong squad at the moment.
None of Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Germany or Portugal got further than England either.

England in 1990 were bad against:
Ireland
Holland
Egypt
Belgium
They were average against Cameroon.
They were good against West Germany.
They were bad against Italy.

Look at the leagues that their players play in and the leagues that our players do. Like men v boys, you must be on a wind up with this one

They have a stronger squad than us but I don't think it's touching the big boys

Gazza and his crew were OK against the Germans but not so against Cameroon, who came within a whisker of beating them. They were no great shakes.
This is the best England team I've seen since 1970, when they gave a brilliant Brazilian team a run for their money. Much better than the 1966 team in my opinion.
Personally I hate it when the media/pundits say 'how many players in such and such a team would get into the England team'. It's arrogance of the highest level, sticks in the craw and makes me want them to lose every game.
BUT be dispassionate for a moment and look at the high quality of football Southgate's team have produced. They went toe to toe with the world champions and there was very little to choose between the sides. In this instance the pundits are not that wide of the mark and I suspect England will get even better. Imagine if horror of horrors a world class centre back emerges to replace Maguire !!

You think England were good against USA ?
We were crap , Iran likewise
And Senegal were not difficult to beat
Come on you are not playing with a straight bat

It might be in your opinion the best England side you have seen for a long time . I think that is a moot point .
If it is then it's clearly not good enough to get into the elite .
They had that chance last night . France didn't seem to get out of second gear . That nearly cost them but we're they ever on the ropes ? I personally don't think so .

The interview yesterday in defeat was great.
Totally sincere and magnanimous.
I've the utmost admiration in how he carries himself.

Re: Gareth Southgate Is A Gent
I’ve honestly lost track of your point. You seem to be conflating the 2 questions:
Are England a world class team?
Are England much better than Wales?
For the first one I’d say “not quite but pretty close to being one”
For the second “yes, definitely”

Whether or not it’s the best league in the world is debatable. Whether it’s better than the Championship and League 1 isn’t, that’s where the majority of our players come from.
All of England’s players bar Bellingham play and start for Premier League teams. Most of them top half teams as well.

Agreed. The manager and team impress me with their attitude and conduct.
Luckily the pundits and press are as bad as ever so it wasn't hard to watch last night as a neutral with a slight lean towards Les Bleus!

Re: Gareth Southgate Is A Gent
It wasn’t so long ago that they were being ridiculed at Molineux during a 4-0 thrashing by Hungary. Yes, they are miles better than us at the moment and so they should be given their resources. It was a ‘business as usual’ tournament for them, build me up Buttercup baby, just to let me down and mess me around. Opponents make the right noises when they knock them out as they do about anyone but the French have forgotten Bellingham, Saka, Kane etc and move on to the next challenge.

So by your reckoning are Morroco and Croatia elite teams because they have progressed deeper into the competition than England ? And are you also saying that Brazil and Spain are no longer elite teams because they've been dumped out at the same stage as England.

Croatia are, aren’t they? In recent World Cup terms. Finalists last time out and semi finalists, at least, this time. Not too shabby.

You sure you meant Gent Sludge? The G is awfully close to the K.

Every time I take a quick look at this thread title, I think who’s Gareth Southgate upset?

Irrelevant what league it is, they play in top leagues against better players week in week out.
You’re not winning this one on a normal day, let alone after the performances we put in at the WC (they belong in the WC toilet).
I hate the little old Wales attitude, but you have gone way too far haha.

I totally agree with you based on their World Cup finishes. They're a team with the knack of just doing enough to get through. But you ask pundits or fans who they believe to be elite teams and I very much doubt if Croatia enters their thinking. More likely to include Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, Italy , Spain etc all of whom have reached the final and/or won it in the last 20 years.

Unfortunately football is all about now, we City fans know all about this. Yes, there are teams/countries with reputations, Brazil are a prime example in World Cup terms, 20 years, isn’t it, since they last won it and they’ve got an embarrassing 7-1 home defeat chucked in there as well in that time, yet pundits & fans every World Cup are ‘Brazil this and Brazil that’. Pundits & fans should regard Croatia as a more elite football country at the moment than Brazil and others, results don’t lie and they keep churning them out.

They say he's a safe , percentage manager
If he's looking to drop into the championship and Hudson doesn't work out I would love him here

No but England make a habit of not getting to the top table of football
Once since 1966
Does that tell you England are a great side ?
Or that this one is about to win something ?
Pull the other one

Croatia have modric and another one like him on the way I would imagine
England don't have that sort of innesta type player
