Agreed, a few odd minutes not long after the first try aside, Wales have managed this professionally

Apart from a period in the first where the Welsh defence looked pretty disorganised, its been a decent performance.

And just as I say that, a silly yellow

Heart in mouth when that pass went out.
Best game of the weekend.

Re: About time we had a rugby World Cup thread?
Glad we won but feel really bad for Fiji.
Be nice if we both qualify.

Re: About time we had a rugby World Cup thread?
FFS Fiji are better ranked than Wales and were tipped to win. They threw on some 120 kilo plus tanks and it almost worked. Who played the better rugby? wales did. They scored more and kept Fiji out who are a damn good team.

Agreed, but i think we will need to Aussies to beat Fiji

Re: About time we had a rugby World Cup thread?
Brilliant spectacle but Wales rugby feel like City recently.. guaranteed to crumble or at least make things far more interesting late in the game than it should be after getting themselves into a good situation.
Fiji can feel very hard done by the refereeing in the last 20 mins IMO... 3 straight infringements right under the posts followed by a Fiji knock on, should surely have been a penalty try and a yellow in there somewhere.
-
Re: About time we had a rugby World Cup thread?
Important win. Thought we had a fair bit of luck there though.
Must have been 10+ infringements on our own line, with 1 yellow and no penalty tries. Very lucky the ref didn't take a more serious line.

Agreed. We were comfortably the better team after we scored our final try but our replacements are not up to the required standard and Fiji were able to wrest control of the match back from us. Still, as you said Fiji are ranked higher than Wales, they've just beaten England at Twickenham and are a very very difficult team to play against. We'll done Wales !

Re: About time we had a rugby World Cup thread?
Good entertainment that.
Fiji are a great side to watch but they give away the ball too often.
I honestly thought Fiji would cut loose after their two first half tries but some fantastic tackling was enough.
People including the commentators and pundits saying we got lucky with the referee regarding possible penalty tries but I thought he favoured them more than us, particularly in the last ten minutes.
Anyway a brilliant defensive effort by Wales and that was a huge test against a very good team.
Should take some confidence moving forward.

Best Wales game this week.
Controlled that brilliantly for 65. Set piece solid.
I fancy the semi finals coming.

Re: About time we had a rugby World Cup thread?
Fantastic game of Rugby that is. One thing rugby does have over football is it can go from win to defeat in one move, bypassing draws.
Such a great end to a sunny weekend

He means if that Fiji player holds on to that pass they win the game , if he doesn't Wales win
He drops it .....so Wales win and Fiji lose

The ref yellow carded a Fijian the only time they gave away a penalty close to their line, but didn’t for the ten or so we gave away within ten yards of our line - the only yellow card he showed to a Welshman was for an act of stupidity forty yards out from our line - also we got lucky with how at least one of the times they claimed a try was concerned.
Wales were excellent in the third quarter of the game, but, as one or two, including Gatland, admitted were brainless at times in the final fifteen minutes.
Thought that, apart from once when he missed a tackle on his opposite number, Rees-Zammett was very good.

Not necessarily.
The Fijian had to stoop for that ball, even if he had caught it cleanly, he had lost momentum by that time. There were three Wales defenders coming across who in the event would have made sure the Fijian player could only ground the ball out wide and not bring it towards the posts. It would have left the Fijian kicker a very difficult kick, bear in mind he had missed a 'bread & butter' kick just minutes earlier.

I think Gats said there were some 'Dumb'decisions. I wholeheartedly agree. Liam Williams' kick out on the full was stupid when barely one phase of possession would have seen the match out. Also Tomos Williams' pathetic box kick that went straight up was another which gifted them an almost inevitable offside penalty resulting in a period ot relentless pressure where we were lucky not to concede or get a yellow

Last 20 Wales were on the retreat
Thank god for the ref

Re the Fijian YC I think it’s because our Mail was rumbling to the try line and likely stopped an inevitable try.
Doesn’t excuse us not getting another one. But hey, theme the breaks.
