Chelsea were all over the ground that day - Grandstand, enclosure, Canton Stand, etc. I got slapped a couple of times when the fighting broke out, but got off relatively lightly if the truth be told. My mate Vaughan was about six stone dripping wet and was thrown around like a rag doll. What I remember most clearly was how frightened I was when the Chelsea mob began clambering over the seats and coming towards us. I'm pretty sure they were chanting 'War! War! War!' Scary stuff.
Relax though, Bobby. I didn't get arrested.
:hehe:
No, I wasn't. I stood my ground and neither the police nor the Chelsea fans could budge me!
... but in reality, I don't recall what happened after the police broke up the fighting :hehe:. I know for sure I wasn't in your group that got escorted around the pitch.

Dont think anyone’s given it Billy Big Bollocks.
In fact, most of us have mentioned how scary it was and how daft it was to get involved.
You know this though, and as usual, you’re just acting like a grade a dick. Not cool.

I don’t but I’ve seen video shorts. That’s how social media works. You wouldn’t understand old man. Go and put your Walkman in.

Yeah if you like tales of men old enough to be granddads still talking about fights they had in their teenage years. If that stuff still impresses you then you crack on.

I was 11 at the time, and wasn’t allowed to go, as my old man knew what was on the cards that night. A couple of older boys in my school, who attended, were giving us all the gory details the next day 😁

I was a Friday night regular at Rumney Juniors throughout the Summer, we used to roll launch ramps and other wooden knock-ups down there and go crazy :hehe:
me, C Fowler, P Fowler, Stu, Malc, Elliot, Pritch, Evo sometimes, a few others..
if it was raining outside we had the go-ahead from the caretaker to use the annex, great times.
Chris had use of his folks Volvo estate and we would all pile in and go to Cleppa Park on the way to Newport, all rails and stuff, or a low-key abandoned warehouse mini-ramp in Aberdare that we knew about, some of the best times I had were with those lads, I was only talking to him on Facebook yesterday, we went to Morfa Stadium in '89 for the Powell Peralta UK tour, met Tony Hawk etc., I tagged him in an article about that day and he shared a bunch of photos in the comments, he was only one of two people documenting those days, Denny was the other, he was a BMX'er from Cathays.

Denny, he was the video guy right? He must have some right insane footage from those days…Mental parties with them lot all dressed as trannies arguing with neighbours in witla court. Don’t see much of that lot now, apart from Daf who was one of cardiffs original skaters , also used to work in city surf for years and lived with me down the bay…early 90’s.

that's the guy, he's got so much footage that in his words "i'll never get around to digitising it all..", thousands and thousands of hours.
I was at some of those parties, and the ones in Roath (Oakfield Street student house) absolute carnage! :hehe:
I know Daf Fortt, chill bloke, he was original City Surf crew, he'd remember me.

Who mentioned lying?
I just find so called hardmen in their 50s and 60s still bragging or arguing about scraps and who done who 30-40 years ago total cringe. See a lot of it on Facebook. Cardiff / Swansea / Newport hooligans / ex hooligans still arguing about what happened in rows when they were teenagers / young adults. Even worse some of these people are still involved. Grow up ffs. They wouldnt live two seconds with proper hard men like John Smith.
And FTR the John Actie podcast one was decent. The podcast has gone downhill since his early days and especially since he got An-arse involved.

Interesting reading this as I used to spend quite a bit of time in City Surf as a grom. Even today, the smell of surf wax brings back those memories. Daf is the only name I recognise as my brother was good friends with Daf's brother Will who surfed. I thought the owner of City Surf was a guy called Jono from Langland?

No idea who John Smith is but I don't disagree with any of this but I don't think anyone's really doing that in this thread are they? They're just answering the question that was asked. I can't think of anybody on this board who gives it the big one when it comes to being a hoolie

He was, not that he knew half the stuff that went on, particularly in the early days:biggrin: he let Evo and huw manage the shop and that’s where there issues began, usually with a few pints late pm in Dempseys….both unfortunately developed big issues with the white stuff a bit late on and not really recovered. Hope your brother is doing ok…

I don’t think they post on here, as many have said sometimes these situations just presented themselves back in those days, you could easily get arrested wrongfully just for being outside the wrong pub, tube station, street etc…just as TLG did a few times and I’d hardly call him a hooligan:hehe:

I'm picturing TLG sarcastically correcting a policeman on some obscure section of the law and being arrested to shut him up.
