It might be just internet talk; I wouldn't be surprised but in the meantime it's hugely exciting.
Any idea if these results are a result of explorations within our own solar system.eg evidence of microbial life on Mars that once existed or is this to do with signals from distant star systems?

It's from Proxima Centauri and if it is confirmed it could only be a signal from an intelligent life source. One big reason for me why I doubt it, is because Proxima Centauri is the nearest star to us in the universe and I think the chances of there being intelligent life there is extremely low. That's because intelligent life, if there may be any besides us, is likely to be rare with maybe only a couple of instances in each galaxy. The odds of it being our next door neighbours is far too long for me.

Your reaction to such things is inconsistent? Wanting to put a distance between yourself and a Christian?
Why would you want to dodge the subject of God, who isn't (in your sphere of understanding) actually there?
-
Re: Evidence of Extraterrestrial Life could be revealed within the next month
There are now three separate threads basically arguing about the same thing

It seems that the “Christian” folk SF has come across are Christian in name only and have let him and his mother down in their time of need. This leads him to conclude that most (all?) Christians must be hypocrites, right wing, and the God they believe in is indifferent to the suffering in the world.
He presents the classic argument that God cannot be omnipotent otherwise he would step in and sort out the world's problems, forgetting that God came in the form of Jesus to show us the way to live (and that mankind has largely ignored his teaching) and the fact that we each have free will to do good or evil as we see fit. At the same time however he does not believe that this God exists and that Christianity is therefore nonsense.
Surprisingly he has offered to meet me as per your quote but God is not to be mentioned which leaves me a little bit hamstrung shall we say, as being a Christian defines my whole life, not a part of it, like some kind of hobby that I only do on a Sunday! Maybe he is afraid that he will discover that I am a caring, compassionate person who puts his faith into action and not just into words.

The answers are nonsense , no fact
A few lines from a book is not evidence

How do you know a snake eating an apple or a woman getting pregnant without having sex 2500 years ago is true
It's absolute nonsense
Your life is based on nonsense

No I will just be either bored listening to a load of nonsense
Off you go again .....tge classic arguement ? ....its a question .....God is ominiptant , all powerful......and everywhere ....omnipresent ....
Either he chooses to not help the suffering or he isn't as powerful as you lot think he is
The answer to the question ....why doesn't this God of yours stop kids being murdered or famine killing millions is simple
He doesn't exist
If you do want to meet for a chat about football , women , curry , your favourite film , music etc ...that's fine
But no God talk , or you vanish , presumed in church

Why would you need to waste ANY time on here? Obviously something pushes you to engage people who know God.
Work out who is pushing you and you'll then understand why you are demanding preconditions before speaking to genuine 24/7 Christians.

You don't know this thing called God because it doesn't exist
I don't believe in santa claus , fairies at the bottom of the garden because they don't exist
You lot are mad , trying to get us to believe in your version of fairies at the bottom of the garden
It's like clubbing seals but you lot just won't give up
Worse than tory voters which is ironic as most of you are exactly that

Yet I'm certain you've never invested even 10 seconds in refuting Santa or fairies; but you have invested countless hours trying to prove there is no God. So as in your imagination none of these exist, why would one of them cause you to leave a room full of Christians or rant endlessly on here?

People who genuinely believe in fairies at the bottom of the garden are clearly unwell
You lot are just annoying idiots

The Ranters were one of the most interesting groups in the English Civil War. I imagine Sludge would also have a soft spot for Abiezer Coppe (a Parliamentary Army preacher and Ranter) and his followers. It was the Levellers and the Diggers for me.
https://spartacus-educational.com/Ranters.htm
Lawrence Clarkson (also a Parliamentary Army preacher, and Leveller like 'Honest John Lilburne and the Overtons) and Coope:
Coppe asserted that property was theft and pride worse than adultery: "I can kiss and hug ladies and love my neighbour's wife as myself without sin." ... Coppe and Clarkson both advocated "free love" ... Coppe and Clarkson professed that "sin had its conception only in imagination" and told their followers that they "might swear, drink, smoke and have sex with impunity" ... One slogan used by the Ranters included: "There's no heaven but women, nor no hell save marriage."
A. L. Morton, the author of The World of the Ranters: Religious Radicalism in the English Revolution (1979) has argued that the Ranters were on "the extreme left wing of the sects" that had "a strong appeal to many Englishmen of the lower orders". He claims that it was mainly an urban movement that drew its support from "wage earners and small producers".
'Rant on'!

Why wouldn't such hedonistic behaviour appeal to all who think the fear of the Lord is foolishness?

He spends enough time ranting on that there isn’t one. All a bit odd.

Back to the main thrust of the thread: would evidence of intelligent alien life change some people's perception of God?

For people like Sludge, probably not, as he's desperate for there to be no God. I get that.
It's interesting that back in the 1990's, two leading UFO reseachers (one in Europe and one in the USA) looked at the current evidence including images, videos and the testimonies of thousands of individuals, and both came to the same conclusion, that the majority of genuine testimonies and images were angelic in origin. It should also be noted that both these guys were agnostics and had no particular interest in validating the Bible.
Those who are familiar with the Bible will remember how fallen angels got involved in human affairs the last time the world was threatened (by God) with global extinction, which led to the appearance nephilim; Goliath was one example of these giant human-like creations.
