Loan Report

There's no better way of putting this, shit is going down next Sunday lunchtime. Ross County dropped into the relegation play-off position in Scotland today after a 2-2 draw with Aberdeen coupled with St Johnstone's 2-1 win at Motherwell meant Ross finished 11th and now play Raith Rovers over two legs to try and hold on to their Premiership place. 90 minutes for Eli King today.

As mentioned already on here, Kortrijk won the first leg of their relegation play-off 1-0 at Lommel today. Isaak Davies was taken off near the end but hopefully that was part of some bus-parking exercise rather than being injury related.

Both play-offs will finish up next Sunday with the home legs for Ross and Kortrijk. Kieron Evans finished his loan spell at Gateshead with a cup final win at Wembley, hopefully it will be a celebratory end to these two loan spells too.

I can't speak for anyone else but I know exactly what I'll be doing in around an hour's time - the weekly shop with my missus (it's contractual, I can't get out of it). When I get back back though, I'll be catching up on the two relegation play-off games involving our loan players as both Ross County (live on Sky) and Kortrijk take a one goal advantage into the second legs as they try and hold on to their top league status. Eli King starts for Ross County, presumably Isaak Davies will be for Kortrijk too.

I can the first list leaving rather than getting loans, but maybe if that can't be agreed, a bit like Ojo.

Not sure we'll hold onto Tom Davies. Lawlor maybe, and perhaps Giles and Conte. Maybe half a season for Joel Colwill but personally I'd have him in the first team squad. The manager, of course, might think otherwise.

Colwill will be 20 in October with just 2 league appearances under his belt, he desperately needs to play senior league football and we know Bulut won't give it to him. Needs a loan.

Absolutely. In a nothing season where neither promotion or relegation were ever likely, Colwill got a grand total of 38 minutes of Championship football under Bulut. He needs a loan and preferably one in League One or Two as opposed to Scotland or Belgium.

Possibly. Probably. I don’t know, I’ve never watched a game in the Belgian top flight. But I’m not sure if playing over there on loan genuinely benefits young British players.

Do you know of any examples of youngsters who’ve gone to Belgium for a season and then come back and made a mark in the Championship? Not a rhetorical question, I haven’t got a clue if it’s beneficial or not.

Liverpool sent Jared Quansah to league one Bristol Rovers in the 22/23 season, before that he'd made 57 appearances in 3 and a half years for Liverpool u18/21/23 teams. He made 16 appearances for Bristol Rovers.

He made 17 appearances for Liverpool in the league this year, 4 in the FA cup 5 in the EFL cup and 7 in the Europa league.

Doubt many saw that coming off 17 appearances 2 divisions below the PL.

Point is I don't think it always matters where they ho as long as they play, obviously its got to be a fully professional league.

I know plus like Brighton have loan managers and they are selective over where they send their players, was an article on the athletic a while ago which was a good read, cant remember if Liverpool do similar.

That's a fair question. Manchester United used to farm players out to Royal Antwerp, although that's not your question. I'd say that it's a different type of football, completely different to the rigours of the championship.

90 minutes for both Raheem Conte and Malachi Fagan-Walcott tonight. Conte won the penalty that led to a 1-0 win for Woking (who have the sons of Jussi Jaaskelainen and Sean Dyche playing for them this season), Fagan-Walcott put in an 8/10 performance for York as they won 2-1.

18-year-old Ewan Griffiths played in goal for Plymouth Parkway as they drew 2-2 with Taunton Town in the Southern League tonight. The game was sponsored by Western Counties Roofing, to save anyone asking.

I posted that in July but he hasn't scored since and has only had one start, in a cup game. He scored in a friendly against Everton before his league goal but hasn't pushed on from there. Ollie Denham still seems to be starting every week, I wonder what his next move will be?
