Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
if I was England manager the first thing I'd do would be to drop Kane.
I honestly think he makes them a worse team these days.
you want your line leader to be leading the line, not winning defensive headers and fancying about in midfield. the number of times Saka best his man in the first half and delivered a shit cross to nobody because Kane had dropped deep and doesn't have the pace to get back in the box in time.
-
Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
I wonder given that if he’d try Kane in a hybrid 10 role with Toney or Watkins and Bellingham dropping back to play with Rice. At least give it a try in the third game if they beat Denmark to qualify.
There is zero chance they drop one of the best strikers in the world but I don’t disagree with the tactical sentiment though… same thing for the Dutch who were crying out for a center forward all game and then Wieghorst comes on and scores with his first touch in an area nobody else was getting into.

Drop the record-breaking top scorer in the Bundesliga - makes sense to me...

Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
It's competitive this year, some really good teams, and running mostly to form so far, I'm looking forward to the rest and the next round of games which may give us a better idea of the best eight teams.

Ukraine are poor up to now (52 minutes)
2-0 as I was typing
Terrible keeping
-
Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
Was expecting a tight game between Ukraine and Romania. Certainly didn't expect 3-0 Romania.
Ukraine were actually heavy favourites for this game, 10/11 Ukraine and 7/2 Romania. Hope no one piled in on Ukraine

Yup, it's all part of the master Plan, all cliches are welcome as are other lazy anecdotes  England were awful in midfield yesterday, they just couldn't get hold of the ball or play with any fluidity. There best ball player (Foden) was awful, and he didn't look comfortable. If people want to dismiss it then fine, to me, it's a problem for them and a balance that needs addressing quickly, because at this level good players will capitalise upon it. I'm sure that we will see a different England in the next game, a much improved performance. I hope not, but it's pretty bloody obvious that they need to play through that midfield with more fluidity.

Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
Slovakia. Another side according to some we should’ve walloped.
-
Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
I said in my blog last week that Slovakia were nothing special against us, but they’re worth their lead against Belgium - not sure how there’s only been the one goal so far mind.

To be fair this is par for the course for the perennial underachievers of major international tournament football

England can lay claim to that title, perhaps more so than Belgium given the populations of both nations.

Yup, but look at the players Belgium have had over the past ten years. They're soft, they remind me a bit of Kevin Keegans Newcastle.

Belgium trying to score the “perfect goal”, just whack it :hehe:

Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
De Bruyne is looking more and more desperate ,dropping deeper to get the ball, tracking back to defend when others are strolling. I almost feel sorry for him.
-
Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
Slovakia defence goes to sleep and Lukaku equalises unless VAR says otherwise.
-
Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
Same old Belgium in terms of result, but a different Belgium in terms of the way they're playing. They've actually played some decent stuff to be fair to them. 2 goals disallowed

Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
Ridiculous handball decision.
Slow down any video and scroll it back and forward by a couple of frames and add in the blue meanies justifying it by saying “by the letter of the law”.

England have had world beating players throughout my lifetime…….so pre tournament predictions have said, only once have they fulfilled their promise though. Both countries have spewed it over and over again but England shade it for me because they’ve done it over the longer period, since the Euros of 1968 in fact.

But his hand moved towards the ball and touched it. Not what he was intending obviously but handball nevertheless.

They have but it’s a bit of a whoosh for you, you must have missed my line, ‘so pre tournament predictions have said’. The English press & media as a whole tell us they’ve got world beaters nigh on every tournament. Have you missed their numerous’’Golden Generations’?
But, as Bluetit has pointed out, they’ve had plenty of players who would grace a list of top class performers. So I hold my hands up that the sarcasm in my post, which eluded you, is open to question.

Blatant corner not given to the Austrians. How could the ref not see that.

Austria looking ok. I've tipped France for the final (who wouldn't)

Someone like Ralf Rangnick is exactly the type of coach Wales should be looking at.

Re: EUROS thread. Monday 17th June 2024.
Bit of poetic justice there. M’Bappe taking a whack to head & nose after challenging for a free kick. A free kick won by him that was very harsh on the Austrian, who was also booked. M’Bappe booked now for entering the pitch without being called back on.

FT: PORTUGAL 2 - 1 CZECHIA

Mbappe broke his nose last night, looks like he will miss the next game from France.
Fancy the Netherlands to turn them over without mbappe

A real gem to watch tonight: Turkey v Georgia
For many in Europe who do not watch Italian football, tonight is the night when if you love watching individual brilliance, you will be drawn in by who I regard as perhaps the best winger in Europe: Georgia’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Both footed. Electric pace. A brilliant crosser. Threads the ball behind the lines with perfect weight when he plays from deep. Dribbling skills that must be close to the best on the planet. Can header the ball like a bullet. Deadly from free kicks. He can hammer the shot from distance with either foot. 15 goals in 30 international games, in a relatively poor international team. 6 foot tall, strong as an ox and he works hard to track back and tackle. For me, the complete attacking player.
This boy will light up this group for sure. If you ain’t seen him before, crack open a beer, order your favourite take-away, and enjoy the personal performance of a generational talent. This man is a class act. He is “The Tits”.
-

I bet he is thrilled that you've endorsed him. Probably have a stinker now.

They aren't too shabby with Giroud.

Re: EUROS thread. Tuesday 18th June 2024.
Turkey v Georgia a great watch so far, Turkey just taken the lead with a cracking volley and now they’ve scored again - VAR’s going to disallow it though.
