That ball that he bent around the defender on the right side for Tanner was sublime.
He is really affecting games now.

He said he gives it away 4 times out of 5 which is utter bollocks. He was superb today. Everything good from us come from him. Shame he didn’t finish that one chance, which he will know himself he should have, that would have been the cherry on top. Great performance.

Colwill was outstanding today, he took the game by the scruff of the neck. He was beating players, using his physicality to ride challenges, winning the ball back and he set up our goal. I just cannot understand the constant negativity from some posters towards him. He's our best midfielder by an absolute mile and he proved it today.
Exactly. Pass it sideways be ****ed. We’ve had enough sideways and slowing it down for the next decade after 14 months of Bulutshit.
He’s finally, FINALLY, getting a consistent run in the team as a 10, his best position, and he’s starting to look like the talent he’s been built up to be. Long may it continue and he isn’t shoved back out wide and restricted to 20 mins off the bench.

Fair enough. I skimmed the 4 x out of 5 part.

Agree. It was a great performance from him, we have plenty of workhorses, we desperately need his flair and creativity. Yes, he gives the ball away occasionally but we do not need somebody else passing the ball sideways and backwards. Encouragingly both him and Tanner seem to be getting stronger by having a decent run in the starting line up.
No idea why Robinson was taken off, he didn’t look tired and we don’t have anyone to replace him unless we put Reindorf on the bench. We really don’t need to see anymore of Kanga ( or Meite) to know they are not up to it

And the more games he plays, the more he gets better. He and Tanner are developing a really useful partnership. I'd like to see Reindorf in amongst those two.

Great pass wasn’t it, as soon as I saw it, I thought we might be on for something here - he’s become so important to us.

I’m really surprised that he hasn’t been given a chance yet.
The fans would be more onside with him if he had have done.

3. Kanga is a hopeless lost cause. He should be nowhere near the U21s, never mind the 1st team.
4. O'Dowda looks like he is scared of getting injured and doesn't fully commit to challenges.
5. Ralls gets slower by the week.
6. Good point but it should have been 3 relatively easy ones.
One point regarding Colwill, it's that balance of wanting him to do something game changing and potentially lose possession, or keep things safe. There's no such thing as playing the killer ball only when it is guaranteed to work, and keep it safe otherwise. Part of the remit of someone like that is they will give the ball away, sometimes often, but they'll also provide killer passes and moments.
Take that away and that would be a mistake.

Re: FT: BRISTOL CITY 1 - 1 CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
When Colwill wasn't playing regularly, whomever was playing in his place would also give the ball away more often than not. The difference he makes is what he does with the other 1.

If we had to make that change (which we didn’t) Reindorf would’ve been perfect. I just can’t understand why he took Robinson off and went defensive.
Colwill was the best player on the pitch, again. If you couldn’t see that, then the Sky sports commentators lauding him, or the camera constantly panning to him, should’ve told you. Unless you were at the game of course, but again, your eyes should tell you that. I thought he looked stronger today holding off everyone, and he’s so skilful. I’m sure the end product will come, he put it on a plate for Tanner and caused them problems all game. He’s working his socks off as well. Colwill, Tanner and Robinson are showing signs they can take defences apart. EDIT before someone shows stats of how poor we are attacking, I said signs!
I’m feeling more positive, get a good manager in and we’ll be fine.

here's an image of the match timeline from the website who scored. the coloured bars are supposed to indicate who is on top at that part of the game - often they bear little resemblance to the game you e just watched, but from yesterday you can clearly see the disaster that the formation changes brought upon ourselves.

Totally agree, even with the regrettable changes, there were so many positives. My hope is we could continue to improve under Riza, I don't know if I'df give him the job permanently, but I'd give him more time.

My interest in the club and this messageboard is Waning by the day, but to say that Colwill put it on a plate for Tanner is just madness. Tanner beat three players and rifled it into the top corner, it was all his own work.

I don’t think he’s talking about the goal - he’s referring to the chance Tanner blazed over the bar after Colwill had set it up for him.

That's a shame. because you provide decent insight. Like TLG says different chances.
For me Colwill is a high risk/high reward player. Bulut seemed to want to play a counter-attacking style but with so many players behind the ball, including Colwill tucked in, then he had neither the aggression to get the ball back or the pace to do what he wanted on the counter.
On the front foot he finds and creates spaces that others don't.
If we want to take it to the opposition, particularly at home, vital. I think as soon as managers get put under pressure due to results, he is one of the first on the bench.

Colwill is showing us what he can do in the attacking third. With the game I. Front of him and options, he can be a delight, as he was for a section of the game yesterday, He was excellent. Problem arises when there's a tactical change, and obviously there will be tactical changes for whatever reason, yesterday the momentum was killed when we changed formation, and when that happens, Colwill can become redundant, because he needs runners, bodies getting beyond him. Credit to him yesterday, some splendid play, he's got a wand of a pass on him and he's added aggression to his game and a little more urgency. And it helps massively that he's playing in his natural position. He needs to add goals, he's had four good chances over the past two games without a return. A bit of composure is needed in front of goal. I believe that he over thinks the opportunity.

I'd agree with this but I think if one goes in, he'll get more. He's obviously got weaknesses, that's why he plays for us. While we shouldn't build a team around him (anyone genuinely good enough for that will get sold asap), we have to play to his strengths. More to the point, I like watching Rubin Colwill play football and there haven't been too many players we've had recently that I can say that about.

I thought that was obvious. His goal was a solo effort, even if Colwill did win possession and play it inside, I don’t think that should count as a assist.
I was on about the chance where Colwill rolled it across the box only for Tanner to sky it. Alluding to the fact he does create, we just aren’t finishing. He can definitely improve his own finishing mind.
EDIT - just read my post back, it wasn’t so obvious and I can see why you may have thought I was talking about the goal 👍

yeah I'd agree with that, even if Riza doesn't get the job ( and I don't think he will) I wouldn't mind him getting a few more games to really embed the likes of Colwill, Tanner and Bagan, Robertson etc in the side before the new manager comes in.
Bagan and Tanner seem like legit championship players at the moment

Re: FT: BRISTOL CITY 1 - 1 CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I had a read of the match thread on the otib forum just to get another perspective on the game. here is my summary:
pre game
they don't like the manager, if they lose he should get the sack
first 20 minutes
cardiff are Garbage
they are kicking us off the park
rest of the first half
both teams are garbage
these are 2 relegation threatened sides
the injury to pring has changed the game
second half
we are getting dicked
manager has to go
then I lost interest after the equaliser, but the general impression was that there were 2 bad sides on display.

I didn’t think the miss was that bad. A decent chance but it fell on his wrong foot and at an angle where he felt he had to go for power to beat the keeper. Would have been a good goal if he’d scored.

Yup, it's nice to see a player who thinks attack as soon as he picks the ball up. The last player we had like that was Lee Tomlin. Colwill covers some ground as well. I do feel a bit sorry for him in that respect as he's a unit, and not built for covering ground, and it can affect him. Fair play to him though, he doesn't shirk the hard work.

We have some decent young players who can play a bit, Colwill Robertson etc, if some of the other younger players continue to progress Daland, Fish Bagan and Tanner (who I’d written off previously)
It bodes well for the future, mixed with a few more experienced heads who knows where we’ll end up?
If we can just get a decent coach in as well, I’ll be looking forward to the Plymouth game
You always give some really good insights into the game and probably see it from a different perspective from most of us, as you were able to play at a level that the majority of us could only dream about, shame that your interest is waning
You’re certainly a poster that people look out for
Even if you were wrong about Colwill 🤣
