Some promising performances from the new signings as well.
Yup, although we need points, and that to me is a failure today, they weren't very good and we couldn't get around them until injury time. For me, that's poor. If i was ever good enough to play in that City side then i'd be walking off that pitch gutted. We need a run now.

It was nice to see one of our strikers tap in from a yard out, and i mean that, it at least means that there was a passage of play instead of the cut inside stuff that constantly comes to nothing.
I thought Alves got behind them quite a few times when he switched to the right but his crosses never found a City player.
Not a dig at Alves, far from it as I think he was excellent wide on the right.
We scored from the left, space afforded to us as oppose to the BC defending on the right, they probably saw what Willock offered!
The goal really was quality and as you said, Salech from a yard finishing it off is as good as a 30 yarder 👏
Edit: Defo needed the win though and will be interested to hear Riza's after match comments.

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
an even game, a few with some credit and some good character shown to fight for the equaliser.
it'll be very tight come the end of the season though

I suppose it feels better becaue it didn't look like it was going to happen, but i really did think that Bristol City lacked quality. How the hell they're in 7th position based on that performance is beyond me.

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
…and that, ladies and gentlemen, is what Ramsey can bring to the team.
If he can do it consistently then we have a much better chance.
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
If only it went to penalties......
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
Deserved that at the end. Bagan did well, Ramsey was class when he came on. Ashford has the makings of a really good player, I think he's better than Alves, who had plenty of good moments. Strange game from Colwill, they literally couldn't tackle him to get the ball off him but he had one of those games where he's trying to do everything himself. Almost scored a great goal though and I loved watching him.
Every point counts now
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
Colwill is a real enigma, he went on some incredible strong runs and looks so good on the ball but it never seems to result in anything . I do wonder if he was in a better team more would be made of his play
Ramsey looked very good on the ball and played some incisive passes towards the end
Bagan defended well in his unfamiliar position and NG has to stay at right back now
Mannsverk worked hard though faded
No loss if we never see El Ghazi or Willock play again, neither contribute anything , just use Alves , Ashford and Tanner when fit in the wide positions ( and maybe Robinson and start Salech up front?)
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
Riza needs to be replaced by an experienced manager.
That's it.
Ashford must have been gutted to miss out on a Derby v Bristol City and he's just thrown on in hope at the end.
Poor team selection , too slow with subs.
Ultimately it's the boards fault for putting him in charge.
We need wins not last gasp draws.

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
Ramsey and Ashford to start against Plymouth. Maybe Salech too.

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
Tap in for Salech, but great movement to get in the right position and a bit of space away from his marker.

He does seem to have that knack of taking up the right position, and getting a perfectly weighted touch.

good strength to hold the player off though

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
The goal was class. Great play Rambo and ashford; and great movement from Salech.
The new players all showed a bit. I’m confident we can stay up.
Ramsey looked quality when he came on. I hope he can stay fit and the extended time off allows that.

Let's not get into comparing who is the best between Ashford and Alves. Both of these young players have excellent futures ahead of them, if they keep on the same trajectory.

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
One slight positive, we are a point closer to Oxford. I still think it'll be 3 out of 9

Tanner has little to offer when a full-back can read him. He seems to be all or nothing.

Put them on at the same time and there's some pace on both flanks for defenders to worry about.

Harsh. We are missing him. Links we'll with Colwill , works hard.

I doubt Riza has any idea how to get the best out of what he has.
Should never be in this position he's out of his depth.

there's a few players he's getting more out of than other recent managers

I'd agree, a 30 minute player.

he's improved a lot since he's been getting game time, could easily improve further

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
There’s a lot of criticism of El Ghazi on here but against the majority I’ll blame the way Alnwick bowled the ball out deep everytime. El Ghazi & Alves were free & alone so many times in the first half. The crowd were screaming for long ball over the top but we never played it once, you have to mix it up.
I must have seen a different game but I thought it was one of our better performances but again lacking in front of the 18 yard box until Rambo came on & showed how to do it.
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
I see a lot of criticism of Riza, but I think we need to accept that some of these players are just not good enough. The opportunities were there, but the final pass was either poor or not attempted, this only changed with the introduction of Ramsey, I find it hard to see what a different manager could get out of these players.

Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
Have to admit Ramsey look a class above when he came on. I'd play him like that - later in the game as opposed to starting. Having only one of our awful CB's on the pitch was a bonus today, and again both Bagan and Ashford showed what neat tidy footballers look like. Alves and Manservant played well. All things considered an enjoyable game, but in truth we need to be winning games like this at home if we're to stay up. I think the goal [offside or not] again illustrates our indiscipline and lack of concentration in defence - it's quite hard to defend a free kick with your arms up in the air..

Of course some aren't good enough. In particular some he chose to start.

Not so sure he was on it again today, and based on the last few performances, I wouldn’t start him at Plymouth next Saturday
Colwill did well, Bagan was excellent and I like the look of Mannsverk and Alves
I just hope we don’t run out of games while the manager plays Riza roulette with his selections

He wasn't great, although he should have started today, it would have been harsh to drop him after a couple of not so great games, especially as he's our top scorer and all that. Although if he is shifted for the next game, then I wouldn't be that surprised. Colwill did well without creating anything, and can't really say much more about him, and until he starts scoring more regularly or creating goals for other players, then I don't really have much more to say that hasn't been said already. That's why he's in the team. Bagan looks composed and more comfortable than he ever has. He always used to look a bit nervous to me, he's looking assured. Can't call Mannsverk yet, Alves the same, too early for me👍

If they were of premier league potential would you back yourself to call that pretty quickly?
We haven't seen too many ever at ccfc but those that are normally stand out pretty much immediately.

You mean Mannsverk and Alves? If so, then no, it's a personal thing, I really don't like too much early talk about young players. I know that it's going to happen, like it did with a certain Mr C on here. I'd rather not get involved too early, unless they're Messi, Ronaldo or Nathan Blake .......

Well, I’ve just spent a good part of my blog piece comparing the performance of our younger players today with their seniors. I thought, with one exception, they outperformed the older players. I feel we played pretty well today and I’m not saying the senior players were dreadful, but it seems to me that it’s our younger players who are more likely to come up with game changing moments that can turn losses into draws and draws into wins.

Do whatever you like, it's your party. Mine is a wider point, Father Dougal asked if I would call them if they were premier league class, not in comparison to some bang average championship footballers, I answered him honestly, I wouldn't be talking them up that early, no chance, I like to wait, I leave that to other people...
-
Re: FT: CARDIFF CITY 1 - 1 BRISTOL CITY. Match thread
I think their goal was definitely offside, but very close

I think you need to make an early judgment on someone like Alves who, I’m sure, isn’t going to be with us for more than another ten weeks or so. Based on what Ive seen of him over three games, he’s a Premier League player in the making.

I’d go along with that, and to be fair to Tuerto, who’s one of the best posters on here we have had some good discussions about certain players , even if we have totally different opinions about them
