Somerset 42-2 if anyone’s interested.
Close of play, Somerset 262-8 declared, Glamorgan 39-1. We let them off the hook a bit as we let their number ten score fifty and I was dreading what would happen in the hour or so we had to bat before the close, but not a bad day at all against what is very close to a full strength Somerset team.
Glamorgan 150-2 in reply to 262-8 for Somerset. Balbirnie 70 odd not out.
Glamorgan 238-6 declared, so both sides are trying to have a proper game, rather than using it as a glorified practice session - it’s set up for another declaration tomorrow morning with Glamorgan chasing in the last two sessions, but they’ve been competitive so far against a team being tipped to win a trophy this season.
It it likely that Glammy can be competitive in any of the tournaments this year?
It has been pretty grim stuff for a while now. Occasionally there is a flicker of hope which is quickly extinguished and the normal dismal season unfolds.
Anyone have any thoughts on the Hundred and how it may impact on the County set up?
I’m very much against it as the Blast was established and pretty successful in getting people in to support their county. This franchise nonsense really looks like a dogs dinner to me however I accept that as a traditionalist I may not be the target audience.
It’s only a friendly, but I’m encouraged by the way this game against a Somerset side that beat us easily last year has gone (Somerset are 121-1 in their second innings and I’m sure they’ll set us a target rather than opt for batting practice). If Glamorgan’s batting can hold up (a big if based on the evidence of the last few seasons), then I think they can be competitive in their Bob Willis Trphy group - I’m not talking about what looks a very tough group, but I’d like to think it won’t be an embarrassment.
Agree with you completely about the Hundred.
I’m very much against The Hundred too. No need for it.
I think you’re right Paul. Somerset will declare possibly pre lunch and set us around 250 to win
We do have Labuschagne back in May and he will make a difference.
Somerset 247-6 declared at lunch leaving Glamorgan two sessions to get 272. I’d say the best we can hope for now is probably a draw.
Think I’ve been talking to myself on here over the past three days, but Glamorgan win by four wickets.
Not a bad outing for a pre-season ahead of a tough test up in Headingley next week. Decent intensity for a friendly, although pitch felt quite flat today.
Anyone more in the know about why we shipped out De Lange? Useful enough pace and can pull it out the bag occasionally for a tail ender.
Not at all. Grateful for the reminder there was a game on. Ended up keeping tabs using this app - http://live.nvplay.com/ecb/#ma181e40...9-1476f5b9875a
Goods performance. Bodes well for the coming season I hope.
While the others in work were tuned into Radio One they were looking at me as if I was weird listening to the cricket, especially when they knew that it was pissing down all over the country and, obviously, no play was possible. The rain affected intervals made for some of the most wonderful broadcasting ever, the anecdotes, stories, recollections etc of the commentary team were comedy gold. Those lot on air were often hilarious even when they weren’t meant to be. They had the wonderful knack of being able to paint a masterpiece with words alone.
I remember the great Arlott commentating on the removal of a cover, went on for a good few minutes, when they got the cover off Arlott said "and now they start on the next one"............it was a form of poetry.
Although I wouldn’t quite put myself in this category, I’ve heard quite a few real cricket fans say that they prefer TMS when it’s raining. I cant explain it, but when the four day stuff starts later in the week, I’ll gladly listen to, say, Northants v Leicester for an hour or two and, given that the BBC have renewed the contract which enables them to broadcast commentary online af all four day games, I can’t be the only one.
Cheers Madassa and TOBW, “shipped out” was probably a bit too harshly used by me as imagined it must have been a contractual or rule change around overseas/kolpak players, etc. Not a bad move for him, just a shame we couldn’t have kept hold of him.
Think we’ve lost out on another of our players due to rule changes too in the shape of Hemphrey I think. Remember reading about that a while back now and don’t know if it was resolved.
Agreed as well TOBW, the county championship radio coverage is probably my favourite thing my licence fee goes towards along with TMS. Long may it continue.
which radio station will glamorgan games be on:shrug:

27- 2.
Looks like normal service is resumed!
That said Yorkshire, on paper, are real contenders for the title so it may not be a true reflection.
Tough start against very strong opposition. Currently 37/3 so not great but early days
79-3 at lunch, a decent recovery from 29-3. Billy Root, playing against his brother, is still there and Kiran Carlson, who had a bit of a nightmare last season, but I think has something about him, has played well so far.
5 down now for 115.
Starting to look rather ominous.
166-7 at tea, I suppose the target now is 200 and a bonus point.
