He really needs to sort them out, doing the guy no favours at all to be honest. The last time I went into a church, about 16 yrs ago, one of 3 visits I had to do, there were about 5 people there, me and the wife were the youngest by a good 30/40 years. Maybe those three good deeds saved me from a Lennon type assassination? I hope he didn’t hear what I said after we left on the very short walk home.
Last time I went into a church was in the early 80s. I was about 11. My folks had sent me to Sunday school. They weren't particularly religious but I guess they just wanted some time to themselves on a Sunday morning. Anyway, the priest or vicar or whatever they are called kept touching my arse. Not just an accidental touch but actually pulling my trousers back and putting his hand down and having a squeeze of my arse. I told my Dad when it first happened. He said he would take care of it. I never saw that vicar again after that and my Dad has always refused to tell me what went on, only that he had sorted it. My Dad passed recently and I still don't know what happened to the vicar bloke. The police have never been in touch so I am assuming it is all cool.
And many people here still think these predators are servants of God just because they wear the robes etc You do meet the occasional one that isn't appointed just because it's a job with an income or is seeking easy access to youngsters, so they shouldn't all be classified in the same group.
I for one have never pointed individuals to churches in general. If you know what to look for you will spot a Church making a positive impact on their community as well as those who attend. And it will always come down to a leader (or leaders) who are seeking to serve God rather than themselves.
Have a great Christmas and I pray that you will one day have a positive reflection on Christianity because you've encountered someone who is the real deal
I'll return to your list in 2025 as the next two weeks are way too busy for me, but MRI was invented by a 6-day creationist who you would consider to be uneducated and disconnected from your elevated reality, and the ultimate author of the Bible would needed to have knowledge of the impact of nuclear weapons and genetic mutations (to name just two examples) to have written certain sections of Scripture. So enjoy your Christmas in your Christ free bubble, and God willing I will address your other nonsence in the new year.
You have, perhaps deliberately, missed my point entirely.
The word 'science' is related to the word 'knowledge' and things are there to be discovered and exploited scientifically (and for both good and bad) whatever one's belief system or absence thereof. The natural world exists regardless who discovers aspects of it.
The fact remains that your tome was written by people who had little understanding of the scientific world and followers believed in stories passed down to them as they would have had little understanding of the true causes of events or whether such things happened at all.
Do you personally believe in the case of talking donkey or are you going to swerve the question? I confess in advance that a positive answer does indicate for me an enormous gullibility that makes it consistent with swallowing your chosen tome whole.
John Lydon summed it up nicely in 1978
Religion
Stained glass windows keep the cold outside
While the hypocrites hide inside
With the lies of statues in their minds
Where the Christian religion made them blind
Where they hide
And prey to the God of a bitch spelled backwards is dog
Not for one race, one creed, one world
But for money
Effective
Absurd
This is religion
There's a liar on the altar
The sermon never falter
This is religion
Do you pray to the Holy Ghost when you suck your host
Do you read who's dead in the Irish Post
Do you give away the cash you can't afford
On bended knees and pray to lord
Fat pig priest
Sanctimonious smiles
He takes the money
You take the lies
This is religion
A liar on the altar
Sermon never falter
This is religion
This is religion and Jesus Christ
This is religion cheaply priced
This is bibles full of libel
This is sin in eternal hymn
This is what they've done
This is your religion
The apostles were eleven
Now there's a sod in Heaven
This is religion
Liar on the altar
The sermon never falter
This is religion
This is religion
This is religion
This is religion
This is religion
This is religion
A liar on the altar
A sermon never falter
This is religion
This is religion
Your religion
And it's all falling to bits gloriously
This is religion
In the country there are a minority who do a remarkable job for the Lord rather than themselves.
In short, God delivered His Word (the Bible) to the Jews, they had the responsibility of keeping and teaching what God has said to mankind. When Jesus turned up He said to His fellow Jews (the teachers of that era) - "So you are teaching that it is not important to do what God said. You think it is more important to follow those traditions you have" (Matthew 15:6).
Many church leaders today are doing what those leaders did in Jesus's Day (2000 years ago), they are just teaching Church traditions instead of the Gospel of Christ. This means that people end up religious, disconnected and with no real message of hope to share with their contacts, friends and family.
When I stand before God. I may not have gathered as many facebook friends as some, but I will hopefullly have passed on the Gospel of Christ which is so needed in a world filled with darkness, death, disasters and despair. Nothing else can provide a permanent answer to all of these conditions. The Carol "O Holy Night" picks up this theme:-
O HOLY NIGHT
O holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine
It's evident to anyone with an open mind that there is more evidence to support evolution (and I have never stated it as fact, by the way) than a talking snake, a virgin birth, a talking donkey, people being turned to salt, people rising from the dead, lepers being instantly healed, people living until they are 800 years old, water miraculously being turned into wine and the other fairy stories that The Bible lifted greatly from other religions.
Your side of the argument is truly laughable, as a Biblical donkey might say.
