Allen would have kept the ball. Allen and Ampadu give a platform to play from. Moore has to play now.
Bale was dire tonight and then came good. Rodon was god awful. I’m not sure if Rambo and Bale can play in the same side now.

You are right . Substitutions after 25 minutes are 10 a penny.

I think Allen and ampadu would be great but Allen's not fit

We did
But we know now that Moore upfront is better suited to the players we have
So it's onwards 🙂

Yep. I cannot see Page dropping him. In the first half their players just went straight past him. He also lost the ball often as did Bale.

It worked because we put pressure on their centre backs when Moore came on. We never troubled them once in the first half, and going down the wings was a dead-end tactic. I thought we could get the better of the USA if we went through the middle with pace, but playing Moore centrally also worked. The first half was puzzling cos we kept on doing the same things that didn't work.

I don't think we will fully solve the midfield problem until the next batch of youngsters come through.

Re: FT: WALES 1 - 1 U.S.A. Match thread
Wrong starting line-up, wrong shape. Page must be big enough to admit the fact that we didn't win was down to him.

Losing the ball 1st half wasnt exclusive to them. They were all losing it. Nobody passed it well 1st half.
Ramseys movement gets us the penalty.
Has to play v an awful Iran side as does Bale.

But you've never seen a manager change it in the first half when playing as badly as we did tonight.
If Page changed his mind as often as you we'd have won.

Think you're right there. Our best midfielders of recent times are aging, have lost their spark and in some cases are now a hindrance to the team. And yet....it was Ramsey who put that clever little ball in to Bale who used all his know how to win the penalty and dispatch it. As frustrating as it is to watch previously top class performers losing or giving the ball away time after time, they can make a difference during the game and that's why we now have our first point on the board. We really have no other viable options until, as you said, the next batch of youngsters come through.

What did he achieve- one header over the bar !

Page fixed it. He made a mistake. We are at the end of a cycle. Ramsey, Allen and Bale are nearly done, we are nearly at a pretty major rebuild. In the first half we had 3 passengers. I’d have brought Moore on earlier but we got out of jail.

Yes, but you said Allen wouldn’t have held back USA. We wouldn’t have given the ball away as much as we did had Allen played. His lack of football is going to be a concern now

That's why I keep going on about getting them in the squad instead of picking Jonniesta & Gunter every game. It's pointless

One option is to play Morrell next to Ampadu if he is fit for the next game. If he's injured we are in a pickle.

Re: FT: WALES 1 - 1 U.S.A. Match thread
After the anger of how bad we were in the first half and the stress of the second half, I think it just hit me that I just saw Wales at a World Cup, never mind taking a point off a country 10x the size and with probably more than that again in terms of money and resources. I didn't get as emotional as I thought I would at either of the Euros even being there in person in France, but this one has hit different tonight.

Messi, Lewandowski, Thiago, Perisic ....the list goes on. All players who have a year or two (or four) on Rambo who are still doing the business, in some cases playing the best football of their careers.
You can be 90% the player you are at 35 as you were at 25 nowadays.....unless you are injury prone.
With Rambo, I know he's had knocks but for the type of position he plays on the field It doesn't make sense to me, on the face of it, that he should be "done" at this level. Seems a bit melodramatic.
I got the feeling the players didn't believe in themselves much at the last euros and you get the vibe they are just kind of winging it , or muddling their way through games with a bit of guts and moments of inspiration. My suspicion is that the coaching and tactical side of the game is probably not up to the standard as opposed to the players....or at least that this part of the setup contributes a fair bit to our shoddy displays.

Re: FT: WALES 1 - 1 U.S.A. Match thread
Iran will fancy their chances against us definitely and if we start the England game as we did tonight against the USA, they will slaughter us. Hope I'm wrong of course but sadly I foresee an early departure. My heart sank when Moore came on but I must admit his time at Bournemouth has been beneficial by the look of it. He certainly looked less of a "headless chicken" than he used to do at City.

Nice post.

Seriously though, that's the spirit.

Re: FT: WALES 1 - 1 U.S.A. Match thread
Don't quite understand the Rambo is past it stuff. He's been inconsistent his entire career including for Wales. He's worth his place in the side because when he's good he makes things happen. The likes of James can't and shouldn't be carried.
-
Re: FT: WALES 1 - 1 U.S.A. Match thread
They gave Bale man of the match ffs
I think Bale should be coming off the bench, he’s not fit or sharp enough to start. Ramsey played a lot better second half, and hopefully he grows into the tournament.
I thought Mepham and Ampadu were our best players. Maybe Neco until he went off.
We’re a much better side with Moore in it.
Not a bad point really, USA are no mugs.

Yeah he might have a blinder v Iran….let’s hope

When he scored 20 odd goals? I agree he’s improved, a lot tidier and more composed.

For a guy who is 6 ft 5 , Moore is a useful player

we've got a point and our players have been 'blooded' on the WC stage.
I think we've done very well and credit to all.

The USA is 100x bigger than Wales in population; 450x bigger in land mass and more than 200x bigger in GDP.
We are minnows.
But 11 v 11 and 1- 1, so who cares. And better fans and anthems!

Re: FT: WALES 1 - 1 U.S.A. Match thread
Did anyone see Steve Morison on SSN at half time?
He was the match pundit (did well I thought) and was asked what he would do to change things after a dire first half.
Answer: bring on Kieffer Moore, Rubin Colwill and Mark Harris!
