So you think this will stop the bloodshed on both sides?

I wouldn't imagine so unfortunately. As a standalone piece of news it's bloody good though. Especially as it happened right in the capital of the country responsible for so much of this carnage.

I think this will lead to more terrorism events around the world.

Hopefully not, but definitely a possibility I suppose. Hopefully it will make a few leaders in Iran feel a bit less confident about stoking up and arming terrorist groups.

There is bound to be retaliation from Iran. Last time - after the Israelis killed 7 Revolutionary Guards in Damascus (Syria) including a top commander - the Iranians fired that massive barrage of (300?) rockets at Israel. But they gave warning and they didn't use their most destructive warheads. This is an escalation and at the Israeli attack was in Tehran, they could well go bigger and harder.
Israel also attacked the Hezbollah HQ in Beirut yesterday, killing a top commander amongst others. That was also an escalation - they haven't hit Beirut before in this latest stage of the conflict. Hezbollah are capable of much more threat to Israeli military, civilians and infrastructure targets than they have shown so far.
The two incidents together will have resulted in dancing in the streets of Tel Aviv, but may also have torpedoed international attempts to prevent a wider regional war. The restraints are being removed. I suspect Netanyahu is pleased.

A better news story would have been if someone had picked off the war criminal Netanyahu. That might well have led to less innocent deaths.

I think the Israelis are certainly trying to ratchet up the tension with Hezbollah. Agree with you re Hezbollah's capabilities, full-scale war is not going to end up well for either Israel or Lebanon.
As for the Haniyeh assassination I'm really not sure. The embassy involved actual Iranians, I suppose we will see how much value Iran placed on Haniyeh and his safety.
The fact that the Israelis managed to do this is going to lead to all sorts of questions in Tehran though. Suspicion of who's been turned, who was incompetent. There will be a lot of senior Iranians who are very scared of a knock at the door or a bomb under their car.

Yeah thought so. To be fair Haniyeh will have been responsible for a lot of boomers being blown up in suicide attacks. No wonder you like him.

No I don't particularly like him and I'm not affected by his demise but I think it's important to focus on the real tyrant here and his slaughter of the innocents that's all. We shouldn't take our eyes off the ball.
By the way the boomers reference should not be aimed at me. I think you were referring to Dorcas!

Certainly not going to defend Netanyahu. I think Israel's response to October 7th should have been more assassinations like today, rather than the wholesale destruction of Gaza and it's inhabitants. He bears ultimate responsibility for the carnage that's been unleashed on gazas civilians and it's a shame he wont be punished for it.
Apologies for the boomers comment. The similarity is obviously too confusing for my small brain !

Violence, extreme hunger, humiliation and other abuse of Palestinian prisoners has been normalised across Israel’s jail system, according to Guardian interviews with released prisoners, with mistreatment now so systemic that rights group B’Tselem says it must be considered a policy of “institutionalised abuse”.
Former detainees described abuse ranging from severe beatings and sexual violence to starvation rations, refusal of medical care, and deprivation of basic needs including water, daylight, electricity and sanitation, including soap and sanitary pads for women.
In a months-long investigation, B’Tselem interviewed 55 former prisoners housed in 16 Israeli prison service jails and detention centres run by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), mapping the scale and nature of abuse. The highly respected Jerusalem-based group concluded that Israel’s prisons should now be labelled “torture camps”.

About 100 people have been killed in Israeli missile strikes on a school compound in Gaza City, according to the Hamas-run Gaza government, the latest in a string of attacks on schools that the Israeli army says are targeting militants using them as bases.
The bombing of the compound, where about 6,000 displaced people were sheltering, was hit when many people were preparing for dawn prayers on Saturday, and reportedly caused a fire. Unverified video from the scene showed horrific loss of life, with body parts and pools of blood scattered around.

Well done Jon for highlighting the news items and bumping the thread. It's sickening what's happening.

Re: 40 Killed In Hamas Attacks In Israel
There is no justification for these missile strikes.

I agree - and it is constant.
But it feels as if 'atrocity fatigue' kicked in for a lot of people months ago.
At least the US government is 'concerned' at the latest mass slaughter.

No different to the war in Ukraine really. It kinda becomes the norm sadly.

Re: 40 Killed In Hamas Attacks In Israel
Did anyone hear the two British doctors talking on Radio 4 lunchtime today (The world at one)? They are working in a hospital in Gaza and described the situation there. It was heartbreaking to hear their stories - I admit I was moved to tears. If you missed it I guess you can find it on BBC Sounds.

Gaza death toll now over 40,000. Anyone on here still think Israel’s actions are justified?

It's a holocaust.
