Thought the goalkeeper could have done a bit better with it, but a lovely goal - well worked and a neat finish.

1-1 Direct breakaway seconds after a very good run from Semenyo.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Burnley the better side for me..

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
1-2. Trying to play the passing from the back game and caught out.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Burnley look physically stronger. Struggling with their press.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Burnley slightly better in the first half but one way traffic second half. Not sure if Ashford picked up a knock or was a tactical decision. Defense seems very uncomfortable playing out from the back once Burnley cottoned on to the fact they could be pressured.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Their press is a lot better - I trust taking Ashford off wasn’t a tactical change
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Maybe scouts at the game? In all fairness I think Jefferies has shown some decent stuff coming on, but clearly a very different player to Ashford and City have found it significantly more difficult to maintain possession since.

Remember the old days when 'the press' was simply the art of closing down opponents whenever they had the ball?
Where did this phrase come from? You rarely hear a report these days without it being mentioned. It sounds American to me.

Probably around the same time as customers and matches and leagues being called the product.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
“Deep block” is another one to come through in recent seasons. Anyway, whatever you want to call the press, they’ve done it better than us - 2-1 flattered us.
Was impressed by Owen Pritchard as summariser, he knew his stuff.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
2-1 to Burnley FT. Good game though.

Maybe it's just shortened version of gegenpress so its origins would be German.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
The press is a basketball term that is a similar concept, not sure if it's the origin of the phrase as used in the football world though

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
I'm not sure why Caleb Hughes is not starting over Conte or Leahy (who were both poor). I hope our Academy isn't becoming a market place for London Agents.
Hughes is a top talent.

Pritchard's intelligence is reflected in the way he plays. I look forward to seeing him back in the team when he recovers from injury. He's a step up from Antwi. I presume Kavanagh is injured also.

U18s 3-1 down at half-time at Coventry. No idea who scored for us.

I've never been particularly impressed by Leahy

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Two hours after a tweet saying the second half has just started and still nothing confirming the result - presumably we lost.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Seven and a half hours now since the second half started - wonder how many added minutes were show n the board

You’d think players like Denham and Bagan would benefit from a game, they may as well play Rubin Colwill as well if he’s not going to play for the first team.
What’s happened to Campbell and Tanner?

All very odd.
On the u18s match, there's nothing on Coventry's website or twitter either. Bizarre.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
1-1 so far today. Leahy put us ahead but we've just conceded.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
We lost 5-1 apparently in the Under 18 game

That could explain why they've not said anything!

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Under 21s just gone 2-1 up with a goal in the ninetieth minute.
