Israel wasn't Israel

Human Rights Watch:
Israeli authorities have caused massive, deliberate forced displacement of Palestinian civilians in Gaza since October 2023 and are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
There is no plausible imperative military reason to justify Israel’s mass displacement of nearly all of Gaza’s population, often multiple times. Rather than ensuring civilians’ security, military “evacuation orders” have caused grave harm.
Governments should adopt targeted sanctions and other measures, and halt weapons sales to Israel. The International Criminal Court prosecutor should investigate Israel’s forced displacement and prevention of the right to return as a crime against humanity.

"The way it looks on the ground, the IDF won't leave Gaza before 2026," an officer in one of the brigades fighting in Gaza said. "When you see the roads being paved here, it's clear that this isn't intended for the ground maneuvers or for raids by the troops into various places. These roads lead, among other places, to the places from which some of the settlements were removed. I don't know of any intent to rebuild them, that isn't something we're told explicitly. But everyone understands where this is going."

Jewish Organizations Around the Globe Condemn German Parliamentary Resolution on Antisemitism
11 November 2024
As Jewish organizations in 22 countries on 6 continents, representing a multitude of members from diverse Jewish backgrounds and traditions, we declare our outrage and condemnation towards the resolution passed in the German Bundestag on November 7th under the title “Never Again Is Now: Protecting, Preserving and Strengthening Jewish Life”. The content of the resolution makes a mockery of its own title.
While paying lip service to “all the facets” of Jewish life, the resolution narrows that life down to one element: the state of Israel. A reminder of Germany’s responsibility after the crimes of the Holocaust is directly followed in the text by a reference to the attack of October 7th 2023 from the Gaza Strip, which resulted from decades of Israel’s dispossession, oppression and murder of Palestinians and triggered a genocidal onslaught that has now lasted for over a year. Germany has been an accomplice in this genocide from the start through unceasing military and political assistance, becoming the second-biggest arms supplier and even promising its support for Israel in the genocide lawsuit initiated by South Africa at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
Mazyouna’s face was ‘ripped off’ when a rocket hit her home. Israel has refused to allow her evacuation.

“Over the last weeks, conversations in Gaza have been intense about the so-called ‘Generals’ Plan’ … within the Israeli forces … which consists of wiping Palestinians off the northern part of Gaza by either killing them, forcing them out, or starving to death those who stay,” Médecins Sans Frontières said on Friday.
“The way the ongoing offensive in the north is being waged … reinforces the idea that we are witnessing the execution of this plan,” the NGO added.

While the attacks on northern Gaza look particularly ruthless, they appear as the logical continuation of the strategy adopted so far by the Israeli forces in Gaza. Since the start of the war, in response to the brutal massacre carried out by Hamas on 7 October 2023, we have watched in horror as Israeli forces began an indiscriminate bombing campaign.
This campaign has been waged while issuing evacuation orders that were built on the lie of the existence of ‘safe zones’, where civilians could seek shelter from the violence.
Throughout Israel’s campaign of death and destruction, a clear pattern of unimaginable violence has emerged: people in Gaza are asked to make an impossible choice between staying, in defiance of the evacuation orders, being assimilated to legitimate targets and killed, or prevented from meeting basic needs; or leaving and risking their lives, be it during their trip, or at the new destination

Between 7/10/23 and 5/11/24, there have been 1,706 Israeli and 43,391 Palestinian deaths in the Israel/Hamas War according to the first para of this piece

It stopped being an eye for an eye about a year ago.
I imagine it is a combination of geo-political reasons (defending an 'ally' and 'western' outpost on the Middle East), a heavy dose of 'my enemy's enemy is my friend' (Iran), racism (brown skinned Palestinian lives count for a fraction of white skinned Israeli lives), the impact of the Israeli lobby on US and European politicians (goes back to the 1960s at least and is open and proud of its achievement - see AIPAC in the USA and all the similar groups that fund politicians and have made or broken political careers), institutionalised holocaust guilt in Germany and Austria that has been translated into uncritical support for Israel and all it does, and moral cowardice.

A new report on Thursday revealed chilling new details of the circumstances surrounding the killing of the famous Gaza surgeon Adnan Al-Bursh in an Israeli prison in May.
A captive at Israel’s Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank told Sky News how Israeli forces left Dr Al-Bursh, who had been severely tortured, to die alone in agonising pain and naked from the waist down in the prison’s yard.

I have written to the Israeli ambassador Tzipi Hotovely in London today asking her to intervene in the case of the little Palestinian girl Maziona Damo - the one who has the terrible injury to her face. She needs to go abroad to get the surgery she needs as it is not possible in Gaza. I pray that she will have compassion on this little one and take some action. I understand the ambassador has daughters of her own, so hopefully she will do something.
Also sent a copy to my M.P. and David Lammy. Can I encourage others on here to do the same in addition to the usual handwringing debates on this forum. If you want a copy of the text of my letter to use as a template, please P.M. me.

Mohammad was 12, a football-mad teenager who spent his days dreaming of a career on the pitch and his last minutes practising ball skills. Ghassan was 14, a quiet, generous teenager who ran errands for elderly relatives, with an adoring six-year-old brother who stuck to him like a shadow.
Both boys were shot dead this summer by Israeli soldiers, victims of an unprecedented surge in attacks on children in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
In the year from the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, Israeli troops and settlers killed 171 Palestinian children there, equivalent to one death almost every other day, according to UN data. More than 1,000 others have been injured.
The youngest victim was a four-year-old girl, shot dead when she and her mother were sitting in a taxi near a checkpoint in January.
Officially there is no war in the occupied West Bank, and the scale of death in Gaza has overshadowed the losses there. But children are dying in greater numbers than at any time since the Israeli army seized control of the area in 1967.
jon1959: I believe in God and anyone with the blood of innocent children on their hands (literally or metaphorically due to their actions or inactions) whilst they may think they have got away with it for now, will have to answer to the ultimate judge one day.
Jesus said: “If anyone causes one of these little ones to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea". (Matthew 18:6)......Ouch!
Have you thought about writing a letter (not an email) to the Israeli ambassador? They say an M.P. sits up and takes notice if he/she gets more than 10 letters about a single issue. What they are less interested in is receiving multiple cloned emails to which they can simply and quickly send out a generic reply. A good old fashioned snail mail letter is a different proposition. Maybe ambassadors work on the same principle - who knows! Worth a try anyway. Certainly better than venting your feelings on a football forum!
Gofer Blue: I write lots of letters and emails, and do many other things for the causes I believe in beside 'venting' on a football forum. But I think any letters to Tzipi Hotovely will be a complete waste of time and ink. Mark Regev was bad - she is off the scale. When even Melanie Phillips is appalled by the extremity of her right wing views, you get a sense of the problem.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tzipi_Hotovely
According to Hotovely there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza, mixed marriages should be outlawed, all of Palestinian land should be siezed and incorporated into Greater Israel, there is no such thing as a Palestinian or Palestine, she is in Likud but a close friend and ally of fascists. And those are her good views and qualities.
The Na'Amod (British Jews Against Occupation) petition didn't make any difference, but in calling on the UK government to reject Tzipi Hotovely as Israel's ambassador (there have been precedents) they laid out a very clear case:
"Hotovely has an appalling record of racist and inflammatory behaviour from throughout her political career. This includes:
* Inviting the far-right Jewish supremacist organisation Lehava to speak in the Knesset (the Israeli parliament)
* Publicly opposing relationships between Jews and Arabs
* Referring to Israeli human rights activists as "war criminals" and comparing them to a fifth column
* Accusing Palestinians of being "thieves of history" who have no heritage or connection to Israel-Palestine
* Calling for the Israeli flag to fly over the Temple Mount – a violation of the status quo in a holy site for both Muslims and Jews
* Stating that the occupation is "a myth" and, as Settlements Minister, directly upholding Israel's illegal presence in the West Bank
* Leading the campaign for annexation and claiming that biblical texts entitle Israel to the entirety of the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea"
