Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
I suppose to a lesser degree we also poach players from others further down the pyramid.
There's also no guarantee that these will turn out to be first teamers at those clubs, they have such wealth that they can afford to pick up and pay so many more.players in the hope one or two turn out quality.
Still, it's shit and the system is broken, can see why Brentford ditched theirs although their location helps offset that massively.

Same as Ampadu. I’m not sure how it works, EPPP makes it cut and dried I thought

Glen Williams reporting "big six figure fees" for both
Ampadu was about £2.5m in the end I think, he and Elliott's deals went to a tribunal. Only reasons I can see is that they played in first team games
I do think we're far too cautious about giving young players a shot, look at someone like Conway at Bristol City, he was playing for Bath last season and is now in their first team. Sometimes they just need opportunity. We're still cautious giving players like Colwill & Davies runs in the team when the guys ahead of them are consistently poor

I’ll put the usual caveat about performance meaning more than results in first, but for about fifteen years I watched Academy games against Bristol City and saw us beat them far more times than lose to them, yet the wurzels have never been as reluctant to give youngsters a chance in the first team and have benefited to the tune of eight figure transfer fees on a few occasions. Just coming out with the tired old line about our youngsters not being good enough because they aren’t playing in the Premier League every week misses a point about the underlying philosophy at City - youngsters are seen very much as a last resort.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Didn’t Bristol City sell a 15 year old to Chelsea for £1m last year?

Not for the first time, I'm extremely confused. I thought EPPP was fixed and yet, it isn't. We need to start chucking young lads in but WBA do that all the time, are Cat 1 and their best players almost always go to Villa.
It is annoying because Crew, Biancheri, Benjamin and Perrett are probably the ones that would be future Cardiff players, I highly doubt if they'll make it at Man City etc, and they'd be the ones to break through. It is a bit of a vicious cycle.
Let's hope the club sit down with Perrett etc and can map out his path to convince him to stay, if he is this highly rated. The other thing is, that most of the young players that Swansea sell, and Bristol City, aren't actually their academy prospects either. James is from Hull, McBurnie was at Bradford, Alex Scott was from Guernsey and Semenyo came from South Glos College, all after 17. We've not given them loads of game time this year but Sang, Denham and Bagan have all broken through, while Colwill and Davies have made the jump. I'd rather we gave them a go than play Sawyers and Simpson, who are so far off the level, a young lad could not be less effective even if they aren't quite up to it.

Yeah I remember the TV money scenario Pedro - I reckon we should shut the academy down immediately and give the facilities to the women.....I know Brentford got rid of their academy and they done okay without one. Modern football has become a fking disgrace.

Rest assured there's plenty of murk in there if someone had the bollocks to scratch the surface.

It’s not even hidden, that’s the issue. It is there to help the PL clubs, so it’s part of the “greater good”

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
May as well scrap the academy and save ourselves the money, absolute joke.

So it needs to be shouted from the rooftops and have a bit of light shined on it and lets see if the greedy cnuts can justify it.

Burnley just signed someone from Penybont for their under 21s so the standard can't be that bad

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
The academy system was already busted, but with the new Brexit rules it's now almost pointless.
If a player is any good and has the potential to make our first team, then he'll be gone before he's 17. Which means we're just bringing through players who will likely be released.
So what is the point?
Its an absolutely massive shame for a club not to have an academy, but if there's not going to be any benefit to having one (other than hoping the odd talent blooms "late" and avoids the fishing net), it's worth seriously considering if that money can be invested elsewhere.
And in the meantime try and focus on scooping up some of the hoarded big 6 talent that will inevitably be released at 18 or 19 for our B/U23 team.

The Davies loan might be useful but one would expect him to push for the first team squad next year. I don't hold out much hope for Leahy here so perhaps the club is helping him out with his next step?

Should really be playing at a higher level than that if they're going to break through into the 1st team in the next year or so shouldn't they?

Vinnie didn't say which Premier League he wants us to play in...

Jack Leahy to Haverfordwest on loan for the rest of the season.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
To continue the glad tidings, the U21s were beaten 3-1 tonight at QPR but with a young team, although there isn't much detail even on the Academy Twitter feed. Probably too much going on to spare the media team.

One thing I noticed about that game is that QPR are now calling their team QPR B - perhaps they're going down the Brentford route because of the situation with Academies discussed above?

It was a league game so I think they've probably just changed the name. I don't think Brentford B are in a league and just arrange friendlies, although they are in the Premier League Cup. They've played some fancy games though - Monaco, PSV, Como, err, Wealdstone, and they're in a tournament in Portugal at the moment. Nicer than a windswept Athletics stadium.

Early in Mick McCarthy’s time in charge, City won something like thirteen consecutive games at senior, under 21 (might have been under 23 then ) and under 18 level - I make it eight straight defeats now for those teams now.

U21s playing again today, away at Colchester. Doesn't look like there's a stream.

No Xavier Benjamin, in the squad for Hull? Is Eli King playing at centre back today?
Looks like O'Dowda or Simpson left back tomorrow

Yeah, looks like Benjamin could be on the bench tomorrow as CB backup with Simpson LB again.
Not sure where King's playing, but there only seems to be one recognised CB in the side so he could be, or maybe Bagan.

Lennon Peake? Nothing announced, so assume it didn't happen/ hasn't happened yet (don't know how the transfer window applies to U21s or if he's still with West Ham or is a free agent).

Finished 3-0. The bad run continues. Time for a win tomorrow!

To Colchester! Sorry, that’s pathetic even allowing for all of the talk of it all being about performances at this level.

I guess you could make the excuse about players being out on loan or in the 1st team squad, but we had 3 players with 1st team experience playing today, 2 of them in defence. That won't have given Bagan's confidence much of a boost.

Still showing on West Ham’s website and Transfermarkt as one of theirs.
