Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Another defeat for the under 18s today, this one by 1-0 at Colchester.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Poor result from the 18’s
They travelled up on the Friday and stayed overnight so no real excuses 😕

Academy to focus on three key areas (Gavin Chesterfield):
'Technical Excellence', 'Physical Mutants' and 'Mentality Monsters'.

Will developing Mentality Monsters include Creativity Centaurs?

I think he comes across well, those terms are being used with youngsters, it's a simple message to teach them to improve their physicality and mentality at an early age.

It’ll be sixty years since I saw my first City game in October and for fifty nine of them I’d say I was able to understand the large majority of what those in charge of the footballing side were talking about. Not this season though, although Lamouchi doesn’t English as his first language, I understand what he says - I couldn’t say that about Morison and Hudson for much of the time and, on that evidence, the same applies to Gavin Chesterfield.

could you genuinely not understand them, or are you just being obtuse?

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
1-0 fine goal by Mark Harris even if the keeper may have been at fault.

Morison and Hudson especially had a version of “football speak” that I struggled with - I didn’t fully understand what he was talking about when it came to treatment of injuries in particular. Yet, when he was playing for us, I found Hudson to be articulate and interesting - as manager, he’d talk a lot and not say much, which, I suppose was probably the object of the exercise.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Watching this Millwall are the better side.
They’re putting Cardiff under so much pressure all over the park.
Colwill looks so far off his game it’s embarrassing

Colwill is one-of a few in this City side who look to be very low in confidence - none of what you’d call the first team contenders are doing well.

I think Colwill often takes a bit of time to feel his way into games, hopefully he will get his mojo back soon.
milwalls pressing has been very effective, we need to counteract that

Could have a lifeline back into the 1st team squad with Robinson's injury.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Watched for 10 mins during lunch and seen Colwill given the ball away at least 4 times
I can see the pass he's trying to do but sometimes he just needs to stick to the simple things

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Cardiff are looking more structured second half
First half was very scrappy
Superb goal by Antwi
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Sub Owen Pritchard makes it 3-1 after good work by Antwi.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
City cap a really poor minute or two defensively by conceding a second.

How many times can you give the ball away in 30 seconds?!
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Finished 4-2, flattered us a bit, but we were more clinical in taking chances and scored four good goals.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Lennon Peake has joined the u21s from West Ham according to twitter. Been rumours about him for a while. No official announcement yet.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
U18’s
Rearranged game (Frozen Pitch)
2pm KO this afternoon at Leckwith
Opponents Charlton
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
A very one sided 1-3 loss I’m afraid 🫣
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
What's going on with the U18s? Influx of U16s? Off form? Not so good this year?
Also, the bit I saw of the U23 game Pritchard looked to be playing further forward than his usual position of defence. Are they trying something new with him?

What tends to happen at this time of year is that decisions are made about which eighteen year olds are going to be offered pro deals and so players that aren't being kept on tend to either leave then or are free to play for other sides to try and be taken on elsewhere. This means that the make up of the under 18 team tends to change from late February onwards as under 16 players get more chances. Presumably, the same happens at other clubs. but I've noticed that results do tend to get worse during the last third/quarter of the season.
Pritchard's been injured for quite a bit of this season and I've noticed him more for his appearances as a contributor to the commentaries of under 21 games than as a player. I thought he did well on Tuesday though and we looked better with him, Jefferies and Nyakuhwa on than we did when Colwill, Davies and Harris were playing.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Also Paul players get bumped up from the 18’s to the u23’s
u23’s get bumped up to be fringe players for the first team
Gaps need to be filled
There’s also loan players that have been sent out for experience (two at Torquay Evans & Crole)
Factor in international duty where several of our players have been lately plus injuries and you can see why results suffer.

clearly we are playing the players out of position, so we get worse results, so we don't lose all our best young players to the big premier League clubs for a pittance.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Thanks for the replies, all. Pritchard scored and set one up so thought maybe someone had seen something in him in a Kenny Burns/Ray Kennedy type fashion.

South Wales derby for the u18s just kicking off. A good time to end their losing streak.
