Re: Sayings That People Get Wrong
Years and years ago it was fashionable to say 'actually' after any assertion one makes. If you did not say actually you were considered to be lower class. So working class scruffs like me used to use it as a way of social climbing if you like (tongue firmly in cheek).
For example: 'I come from Caerphilly actually', 'whereabouts like, I'm from Cufilly'. 'Well, since you are asking, I live in Mornington Meadows, actually'. 'Don't you mean Lansbry Park?'. 'Not at all, I wish they'd move that place away from us, actually'.
But like many other phrases this one went out of fashion - and, so I hope, will 'going forward'. I really hate that phrase actually. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/homer.gif

"at this moment in time", why can't people just say "now" or "at the momment"?

Others I loathe are; excessive us of "in terms of" and "going forward". Why do people feel the need to use such nonsensical phrases in work? You would use them at home. "Hi love, so going forward in term of tea are we having chips or rice?".
[EDIT] Another one is superfluous use of "personally" as in "For me personally"

Or keep it nice and simple and use 'current climate'.

I like (I mean dislike) that one. Something associated with ME must, necessarily, be personal.

I don't want to offend believers but one can't prove the existence of God with arguments; His existence or not is a scientific matter. We can't debate whether or not God exists; we must go out and see - i.e. look for concrete proof.

I'll start with 'early doors'. I am not 100% sure this is wrong, but it may have resulted from an ex footballer/presenter saying EARLY DOORS instead of EARLY DAYS.
I have even seen on another board a few people not being able to get to and too right

Circular arguments are common regarding the existence of God. But one similar to that which you quote goes like this: 'God is a concept of which there can be nothing more perfect; it is more perfect to exist than not to exist, therefore God must exist'. This begs a number of questions: why is it more perfect to exist than not and why should something exist just because we have a concept for it. Unicorns never existed, e.g.

It took four pages but we finally got to debating whether God is real or not. Level complete.

I don't think you have any idea when I am being serious do you? Do you honestly think that I have not noticed the massive threads on religion. Or maybe you are just being trying to be friendly. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/rolleyes.gif

Very good point - I do not know what is going on with the Colonel (or Captain) - that is why I allowed for the possibility that he is being friendly in my mail. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif

I'm sorry but when banter becomes so ambiguous that it could be 'having a go' - and I am obviously entertaining that possibility - then we should question it. That's what I have been doing and justifiably so.
