Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Brian Barry-Murphy was touted for the Cardiff manager's job a few years ago when he had just left Rochdale.
At the time I preferred him to any of the other options on the bookies lists.
He seemed to be a top coach - but with a short and mixed managerial career. A gamble.
He is even more of a gamble for us in the position we are now in. Any appointment will be a gamble but - although it could work out - I want Tan to opt for someone with experience of the fight we are facing to get back to the Championship, and a record that gives us some confidence he knows what he is doing!

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
The fact that the 3 (or 4) candidates on the final short list have clearly been interviewed and now recommended to VT indicates that wellens and jones are not included - as preparing for play off final. Could be wrong but doubt it. Hugely disappointing for me. I was really hoping that we would go and get whichever one lost and that was why the process was slower than some would have liked. But looks like money is talking again and another cheap option is incoming. Still hope I’m pleasantly surprised - but doubt it.

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Brian Barry-Murphy from nowhere is odds on fav. Never heard of him. Ramsey 2nd fav. Evatt and Buckingham drifting to 8-1.
-
Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
Barry-Murphy has drifted slightly in the betting. Did go to 1-2 , Now evens. Bit of money on Buckingham and hes 5-1 now Ramsey 6-1 Evatt 8-1.
The betting is probably changing to flutters of bets and in the know wannabes with daft my mate knows blah blah blah and hes got the job rumours.
Looks though that no decision is made and it's a wide open battle between out of work managers.

He does this all the time. Names a few obvious names or targets then caveats with he also understands there are some outsiders and names who haven't been mentioned who it could be also.
Think that's all bases covered for him there!

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
No mention of Osian Roberts !
Perfect with Ramsey as his helper

I think it’s been pretty obvious over the past two or three years that Paul Abbandonato has been fed information by someone high up at the club. I believe that those four names are on the list of names Tan has been given to consider.

Information is an interesting word to use.
He's clearly been used by someone yes. To spread Bullsh1t more than accurate information I believe though.

It's Dalman.

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
If that list is correct I'm disappointed it doesn't involve Edwards or anyone currently in a manager job. Seems like we are going for a cheap option
-
Re: Manager Linked -Richie Wellens
We can rub Nathan Jones of the list then.

Who do you want? Nobody is going to drop down a division to manage us

I think it's entirely reasonable to think that someone out of work and with bills to pay would consider our managerial vacancy. Someone in work and currently managing in league one may also fancy a pay rise if we came calling.
My preference once he became available was Selles, followed by Rob Edwards and then Dave Challinor.

Re: New manager speculation / rumours thread
If we get Murphy, maybe he can ask Pep for a goalkeeper. That's a priority

I think Alnwick is a more than adequate L1 keeper.
We need at least 4 or 5 very good L1 standard outfield players to go straight in the side.. Right through the spine of the side. CB (hopefully Fish or Lawlor prove good enough for 1 place) , Central midfield and striker. We need physicality and pace.

We certainly need a few who can battle rather than bottle, if we keep most of the squad from last season, our most important acquisition is going to be a bigger physio dept.
We really need a few in who understand that they have to win their battles before they can play football.

I agree we need leaders and players who will battle plus pace.
In addition there will be a few on the retained list that we badly need moved on.
Maybe 3 or 4 sales and those out of contract leaving.
We need a manager in quickly now as we need to rebuild this team/squad.

I mentioned Edwards in both posts and Challinor is currently employed. Neither would be amongst the cheaper options IMO as one has recently been employed at a higher level and is currently out of work but used to higher wages and the second would involve us paying compensation to their current club. As I said initally we are going for cheaper options.

Buckingham is on the list, apparently, and has been employed in the Championship. Your first post you mentioned your dismay at not going for someone in a job, apart from Challinor, who else is there?

This, for me, is the single biggest reason why Riza failed and we got relegated. Spent most of the time "playing in boxes", switching formations, and trying to show the world what a progressive coach he was when we should have been going back to basics and doing the simple things right to try and win points.
People can talk about pace or needing players who can do X, Y or Z, but this is the single most important thing we need to address this summer IMO.
