Re: EUROS thread. Thursday 20th June 2024.
This game could still go either way
But surely even the most positive England fan doesn't believe this silly hype ?
Spain , France , Germany are all better teams than this lot ?

Southgate = Bulut….
Anyone agree?

A fair comparison. This playing out from the back with endless, negative passes is mind-numbing.
I'm in a bar right now crammed with football-crazy locals (most of whom support England), they're all playing with their phones.

Shearer is seething…
‘Nowhere near good enough’
It’s a shame he can’t say ‘a load of bollocks’ on the BBC!

Re: EUROS thread. Thursday 20th June 2024.
“At least the ref is being consistent” says Shearer - he’s giving everything to England.
Three of the “best front four in the tournament” taken off. What’s Cole Palmer done to upset Southgate?

Re: Spain v Italy
I'd watch San Marino v Indonesia before Starmer v Sunak.

it's because he's black.

Re: EUROS thread. Thursday 20th June 2024.
England have many excellent players.
Southgate does not know how to create a team.
Gareth - the best team is not necessarily the best 11 individuals.

Spot on.
Maybe a few years of struggling to qualify might generate a bit more of an “all in it together” team spirit?
Long may their sense of entitlement continue 😆

He puts the shackles on his players. He's too scared of dying on his sword by being a bit adventurous - similar to Bulut

That’s a large factor, but as I said earlier in the thread, it’s just mind-numbing that a country with a huge pool of talented players like England are selecting people out of position in the early stages of a major tournament. A right-back at left-back and another right-back in midfield. It’s beyond stupid and obviously doesn’t work.

I hope Erol Bulut stops doing his Gareth Southgate impersonation next season.
PS - they both 'hate to lose'!
PPS - just seen all the other posts saying the same!

Someone like Cole Palmer is probably exactly what England need, he gets on the ball and pushes forward, he makes things happen, he's had an outstanding season. Not to say Eze or Bowen aren't talented but he should be coming on before that pair.

Some players, Alaba from LB to CDM, sure Kimmich was a RB before he went into midfield (may be the other way around mind)
so it can work, maybe Southgate saw the headlines in his imagination, he's a genius if it works and an idiot if it doesnt.

Just saw the Southgate interview. Looks like that's the end of the TAA experiment.

Re: EUROS thread. Thursday 20th June 2024.
Great to be able to watch a football match now, after what came just before. More entertainment in the first 10 than in the whole of the other match.

endless passes isn't something I recognise from Buluts Cardiff team

Do you think Spain would notice if Wales swapped Neco Williams for Nico Williams ?

Heard on the radio today that he’s planning on playing Shaw at some stage. A good left back, but hasn’t played for months.
As you say, crazy that a team with so many players to choose from, can’t field another decent LB

Re: EUROS thread. Thursday 20th June 2024.
The Serbia game would have gone the same way for England if they'd have possessed that little bit of quality Denmark had. Southgate doesn't seem to have learnt from the opening game. The midfield play is shocking, it's slow, ponderous, without purpose. It's mainly on Southgate, but those players need to turn up and show some quality when needed. They look like they're playing like they think Southgate is a bit of a pleb tactically.

That would actually be quite an interesting game. I'd go more for Israel v Slovakia in terms of boring international teams.

Re: EUROS thread. Thursday 20th June 2024.
Have you ever seen an England team as comfortable on the ball as Denmark were earlier, not to mention Spain !?
England players are fine when they have a sprinkling of quality foreign players around them in their club sides but put them all together in the same international team and they seem utterly clueless. Compare their movement and ball control with almost every team in the tournament and ask yourself how on God's Earth are they considered one of the favourites.

According to Southgate it's the lack of Kalvin Phillips which is causing the issue :hehe::facepalm:

Were they favourites in other countries or are the bookies' odds reflective of Blighty-based wager?
Whatever the answer, England have never been closely associated with creativity, verve and flair. And they don't really have a winning mentality.

Re: EUROS thread. Thursday 20th June 2024.
One observation about this tournament, even though I'm judging it on TV. As someone who applied for tickets twice and didn't get a sniff, it is good to see stadia which seem to be packed to capacity, and mainly with national team supporters rather than neutrals, corporates and football tourists (like me :-)). It sounds like they got the ticket allocations right and it is making for some great atmospheres. As I say, only my impression from my armchair!
-
Re: EUROS thread. Thursday 20th June 2024.
Still not seen a game, didn’t even know England were playing today. Least interest in a tournament ever!

Re: EUROS thread. Friday 21st June 2024.

The atmosphere in the grounds has been incredible. I guess part of it is it’s easy to travel to Germany for most of the nations there so seems great support for most nations. Just makes the pain of Wales missing out even worse, would love to have partied with the Dutch orange fans and would have been our 2nd game against Austria today.

Yes, and isn’t it refreshing that the crowd doesn’t spend 80mins trying to get a Mexican wave going.

Shame it's a really good one, lots of teams could win it and it's generally been a good standard, some amazing goals and plenty of them, teams shooting from outside the box and scoring in most games.

Yes overrated here, not in the other countries I'm sure if they've watched their first two games, they are not a last-eight team unless they get lucky with the draw.

True and he is trying to fit all of them in even if it's a different position, it's basics he's a shit Manager Thomas Frank would have them with six points and five goals to nil.
