If we fail to bring in a left back I think it would make sense to recall Davies as cover

Kieron Evans being loaned to Gateshead in the National League.

Now they do need players, they’ve lost a few recently.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Rumoured that Kieron Evans off to Gateshead on loan
Another player we waited far too long to send out on loan. We really need to be sorting out loans for them as teenagers, not once they're in their 20s

Isaak has. Tom hasn’t.
Sorry - just seen all the other comments saying this. Must read whole thread in future.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Under 18s beat Ipswich 2-0 away from home. Ola and Perrett with the goals
7 consecutive league wins for the u18s and I think that's with some u18 players stepping up to the u21s
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Great run by the u/18s, there has to be at least a couple of them worthy of stepping up. You hear of kids at other clubs being chucked in, in recent years we’ve been very reluctant to give it a go. These lads must be doing something right on current form.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Cian Ashford has signed a contract extension to 2027.
Would be good to see him get some game time at Plymouth tomorrow.

I’d start him or Joel Colwill if Rubin can’t play. I struggle to see how they’d be worse than Wintle, Rino and Siopis.

I agree

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
There both at least five years too young though.

Why not. I'm sick of the threads on here debating the merits of young players after they have played 50 first team games, and all of the bullshit that goes with it. If this kid is showing promise, then put him in. lets see what he's about, not 4 or 5 years at the club pissing about and people on here making up the same excuses we've heard 100 times or more. I doubt he'll get much of a chance, although i hope he does, and when he does, i hope he shows it early. About time we had a player from the system show us something and give us all a boost.

Better than discussing the merits of Kion Etete after like 100 league games :hehe:

Don't worry mate, we have to wait until he's at lest 26 before we can judge, because apparently, that's when strikers mature.

Good point, it doesn't matter if he can't hit a barn door with a banjo yet in that case.

Stop talking silly. His severe lack of ability, awareness, pace, intelligence can't be assessed until he's made 134 appearances.

Main issue with Etete, he just isn't getting better. I mean, you could say that about every player we have but he's been here 18 months and he's the same player he was when he arrived.

Yup, and i don't think thats on Bulut or the coaching staff, Although it is a worry how so many of our players are either off form or going backwards.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
This is refreshing. Good discussion. I just found this about players who made their 1st team appearances at 17 years old (or under) and Federico Macheda popped up! There are some goodies on the list though. https://www.planetfootball.com/quick...league-man-utd
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Bulut should have brought Ashford on second half v Leeds instead of that shocking excuse for a striker Meite
We had nothing to lose 🧐
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
The under 18s are 2-0 up against Bournemouth just before half time - Jake Davies and Trey George with the goals.

Don't forget his lack of strength
I hear that'll be sorted when he's 29 though so not long to wait

3-0 at HT, Joseff Edwards with the 3rd

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Louis Phillips makes it 4=0, now 4-1.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
4-2 now, and both teams down to 10 after a "massive scuffle". Jac Thomas sent off.

Ollie Denham recalled from Dundee United. No surprise as he barely played.

The fact that he barely played there probably means they didn't think he was good enough
There's a comment on their forum that suggests that he won't be missed
https://boards.footymad.net/showthre...313546&page=27
I would imagine he would be a much cheaper bench warmer than Panzo who has to be regarded as a mistake and probably an expensive one

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/spor...-ollie-denham/
A bit more explaining his time at Dundee Utd.
Has the tactic of picking up youngsters released by Prem or even championship clubs ever worked? The closest is probably Bagan, and we're not sure what's going to happen to him. Sang almost broke through permanently. Have I missed someone? Perhaps if they're being let go they're not going to be Championship (and above) standard. If they were, they'd be seen as at least a small financial asset and not just released (e.g. McGuinness).
Why do we think we can bring players through when QPR and Blackpool, for instance, have given up?
(For all this, maybe Denham will return with a greater sense of purpose and become part of the 1st team squad).

We picked up Ajayi on loan initially then permanently when his contract ran out at Arsenal. Obviously that benefitted Rotherham rather than us ultimately but I guess it shows that we're capable of picking up a decent 'reject'.
It's always going to be a hit and miss strategy, of course, but plenty of top players were rejected as youngsters. My eldest just mentioned Eze. He got released by Millwall at 18 (by Neil Harris) and by Arsenal, Fulham and Reading before that as far as I can make out. Declan Rice turned out half decent too as another example but it's a long list. It's something you'd expect the club to be looking at I'd have thought.

Fair point. I was looking at it with my Cardiff blinkers on.

Shame. City played well.
I saw Fulham had drawn Swansea in the next round of the Youth Cup which was a bit frustrating as that would've been winnable for us - with a trip to Liverpool or Arsenal in the next round if we'd progressed. Just checked to see how that went and Fulham won 5-0. It was played on Wednesday so Swansea went out of the junior and senior FA Cups 5-0 on successive nights. Shit happens.
I'm missing something with the Youth Cup. Liverpool sneaked past Fleetwood then beat Arsenal 7-1. Man Utd lost 2-0 to Swindon, which seems bizarre. No Biancheri for United but Charlie Crew has been playing for Leeds, who are through to the 5th round.
