What do you do for a social life these days ?
We are not 21 and clubbing anymore but then again who is ?
Going down the pub ? Even before lockdown I didn't bother much with pubs
Concerts? Cardiff is crap for gigs but going to see Killing Joke in the new year , possibly tool later on .....used to be gigging like a madman but its a struggle these days
Fishing.....love it but not very social , nice and relaxing though 😌
Walking.....some good walking groups out there but the ramblers are a bit odd .....they don't like outsiders
Swimming .....very anti social
Pouncing around an art gallery or museum......not interested
Opera , Ballet , theatre , live comedy ......see above
So basically that's me done for

I guess since Mothercare closed you have less places to hang out.

The thing to do was to pair off, have a family and then regroup with everyone else who did this to discuss cars, home improvements and dreary kids. Anything else and you're knackered.

That sounds like hell. I did the first bit, a wife and kids, but did my best to stay away from the other stuff. Getting all cosy with the parents up the school. F uck that.

I work, argue with my missus, sometimes my teenage daughter and walk my dogs. Probably in that order. Sometimes i walk around Aldi, even when i don't need anything, then have to push myself through the queue at the checkout.

Never get friendly with your kids mates parents, golden rule. It can go badly wrong and your stuck with them for a good few years…:xmashehe: never quite got that anyway, don’t these people have any mates? Are they relying on their kids to find any?

Most of my social networks are to do with my sobriety nowadays (the charity I volunteer for and sober groups).
Still love to see the lads down the football and meet up for food with mates.
Doesn't seem to be the time to do it all nowadays.

I just find that time is whizzing by and trying to fit a social life in is difficult. Christmas has been and gone, whoosh! If I’d been foretold a few years back that the world would nigh on be put on hold for a couple of years due to a pandemic, I’d have imagined that those couple of years would drag terribly. The opposite has happened in reality for me, it’s flashed by, two years older with loads of things I still want to do.

Joined a Golf club at the start of the Pandemic, not a super fancy one but a good social club. only £600 for the year. Play 2/3 times a week now and lots of trips and away days available to join.

All a bit weird, isn't it? The mums at my kids school would just compete with each other, kids parties and all that shit. They'd all have coffee together on a wednesday, some of the dads would go as well. Strange bunch.

Pub with my son
My mates and drinking buddies are from years back fack getting friendly with parents up the school all boring pretentious farts looking down their noses at you saying how far their little one will go. Fack that.

Nice one underhill, being in recovery can certainly give you a purpose to get up in the morning. Sometimes there’s not enough hours in the day.

We have people over to the house. And we go over to other people's houses. Works out. You know everyone there and you've actually agreed to socialise with them beforehand.

On the other hand I quite like popping into town for a pint and bumping into people that I haven’t seen for a while. One of the reasons that I’m not keen on table service is not being able to go to the bar, where, often you’ll have a chat with an old acquaintance who’s waiting to also get served and is sat in another part of the pub.
If you’ve played football, rugby, baseball etc around Cardiff in years gone by you can very often bump into old adversaries and have a chinwag and reminisce. The mix up of being with the ‘usual crowd’ and catching up with randoms from the past works for me.

It's not what it was, that's for sure. The amount of shit that I buy that I never thought that I needed is incredible! I love the work socks, they last for ages. This is as exciting as it gets for me!
