Re: Get Rid Of Starmer ASAP
He's quite remarkably unpopular given the election win wasn't that long ago. I also find him quite smarmy and I think there is some truth in the Tory attack line of "be a leader not a lawyer".
But I dont mind him. He seems fairly rational and isn't crossing any red lines for me.
The thing is our problems weren't all down to the Tories and they aren't all down to Labour. As many may recollect, I strongly opposed the constant anti-Tory stuff on here because it solved no problems whatsoever. All the problems still exist and now Labour just have to deal with them. So it's pointless just blaming them. I have no confidence they will solve things either but they deserve a chance.
I feel a bit differently in Wales where I think it is really important that Labour are kicked out in 2026, not least cos they've been in for so long but also because they are so dreadful.
Reform lead in two of the last three polls UK wide too btw. The shift in things from last July is remarkable really

Another high profile political figure who broke lockdown rules during a “deadly pandemic “
This time to see a voice coach. How would a voice coach be any good with a face mask on :hehe: (clearly removed)
Imagine the germs with this kind of interaction :hehe:

But it was only the Tories :hehe:
They all knew it was bollox and did what they wanted in private, but maintained a united front when instructing the useless eaters :hehe:

Undoubtedly it's the Tories
Brexit , the privatisation of all utilities, huge increase in immigration under sunak yet the Tories now are slagging off labour ....you couldn't make it up
But that being said I want labour and the liberals to shape up quickly to keep them out and that means getting rid of Starmer and the sixth form politics students like Reeves and Cooper
He's got zero charisma and is an utterly hopeless leader
I think he's done for and the sooner he's out on his arse the better

I don’t think Starmer’s ever been that popular and, although I may look a complete fool in four years time for saying this, I reckon he’ll lose his seat in 2029 - his majority was slashed in July and a lot of left wingers in what has always been a Labour seat I believe will be pretty pissed off with his first six months as PM.

There won't be anything left of the country in 2029!

I genuinely think that he's going to be ousted
If that doesn't happen before the next election then I am predicting a ss goosestepping coalition between farage and the Tories
The only hope is a different leader to bring back some former voters
Chasing the right wing crew under reform is a waste of time it's clearly a right wing populist movement and these voters are lost and not coming back
They might return to moderate politics if they see reform making a complete arse of things but I think Labour, liberals and the others need to join up now , even loosely
The nationalists in Wales and Scotland make me laugh .....if they chip away at Labour's vote they might sing a few songs but too much and that let's reform and the right in via the back door
If you want independence or at least devolved government you ain't going to get it with reform
They will be wrapping everyone up in the flag of St George given any chance
Re: Get Rid Of Starmer ASAP
I am no fan of starmer but if you are suggesting that the country has hit the wall since the July election then you are clearly dopey
Plenty of mistakes and a crap leader but have you been asleep from 2010 ?

Blair was a tory lite leader , like starmer but until he dived into Iraq he invested in the NHS and education ....sometimes living in the past is a dead zone and a capitalist society with an emphasis on pruning it's extremes is the best we can hope for
I am afraid with starmer in charge he's not only hopeless he's going to hand the huge majority he got straight over to the nutters from reform
Bin him pronto

It's even worse when you realise he's just a puppet.

That’s how his friends and relatives describe him, but I wouldn’t be so generous.
Re: Get Rid Of Starmer ASAP
Asking a genuine question; I have my own opinion, but I wonder what specific things people from the left would like to see from Starmer, and what would they criticise from his first six months in govt?

Less austerity, less lying from the leader and a different Chancellor. As for criticisms, they’ve looked like they were caught on the hop by winning the election, they’ve looked amateurish at times - the controversy about Starmer’s “perks” showed him and his Government as being naive and out of touch. Much too feeble on Gaza and they bungled the whole fuel allowances situation while managing to come over as being nasty in the process - I’ll stop there, but there’s a fair bit more.
Re: Get Rid Of Starmer ASAP
Apart from handling the Southport riots very well he's been a disaster from day one as have most of his team

Yeah I don't disagree with that, although in fairness I think some of it is just the rigours of governance and there being no easy choices etc.
I think in austerity etc they have talked themselves into a box a little, esp after the criticism (justified!) of Liz Truss' budget, they are beholden to the market reaction which will rarely favour massive spending.
I increasingly think their first budget was a mistake especially the "tax on jobs" which in fairness is essentially what it is. I think we will be stalked by rising unemployment in the coming months too.
His cabinet does feel a little "limp". I think Wes Streeting is a pretty good street fighter, but s lot of them do feel rather technocratic.

I think their comms has centred around trying to be adult in the room and that prevents them from getting into the trenches and actually calling out hypocrisy and providing strong justification for policy. They seem to want to be everyone's friend.
For instance the wfa debate, in my mind not the wrong policy but because of their approach it has been a grenade, they said 'we had to do it to fill X gap in funding, difficult choices etc.', rather than 'it is poorly targeted welfare'. This would have rescued them down the line when the increase in pension credit claimants was brought up to pick apart the 'removing wfa saves x billion', it just feels a bit amateurish. Another one is when the supermarkets en masse called out the government for hurting farmers, which, whether it's delusional or deliberate deception, is massively hypocritical given their history of squeezing every penny out of farmers, not a peep from the adults in the room because they don't want to upset anybody.
In terms of policy, tax system is becoming more and more regressive every year that it puts more focus on income than wealth. Social care needs massive reform. I'd love to see some sort of push towards British people gaining/retaining collective ownership of British assets. I say an article the other day about the ownership of major airports across Europe, mostly having some public ownership, Heathrow is owned by random countries and companies across the world. We seem to find ourselves in a situation where we provide capital investment or guarantees in things to encourage private investment and it ends up being a gift or bung basically. Some way of encouraging growth past a certain point in successful startups, it feels like everyone has read entrepreneur 101 and has their exit entirely setup before they have even started. It means every time we build something useful, it gets sold to Google the week after the founders reach their retirement number. No idea how you do that though.
There's probably loads more.
