The new pope will be announced shortly.
It's going to be an interim pope for a few months while they decide whether or not to keep him on.

Maybe they are just having a few beers and a barbecue? It is hot there today.
Re: Sludge will be ecstatic
First time in my life that a Pope is younger than me:old::old:

Has Trump enquired yet if Vatican City is interested in becoming the 51st state?

Give him a chance, he’s just been involved in appointing Leo as his representative on Earth.

The Pope is a pretty important person to some of us.
Re: Sludge will be ecstatic
There was a Pope quite a few years back (John 1)when Cardiff City became the only team not to score a goal during the reign of a Pope. He lasted 33 days.

His successor, John Paul II, actually visited Cardiff to sort it out. Not many UK football grounds have had the Pontiff perform there.

Fair enough, my Mum was Catholic, she'd have probably agreed

I remember it well. At the time of the visit to Ninian Park the media described the stadium as dilapidated. Lets hope the Pope didn't need the toilet.

Not trying to belittle your faith or beliefs, but what does a Pope actually do? Why are they all old when they get chosen.? Why can’t a Pope be in his 20’s or 30’s and a bit more dynamic?
They all look like like they are at deaths door as soon as they get the gig, and only have enough energy to raise their arm now and then.

The last Pontiff canonised 942 individuals, including 3 of his predecessors. Busy, busy, busy.

There are plenty of young vicars, priests etc.
It’s not as though a Pope has to make world changing decisions. They just have to stand on a balcony now and then and wave at the peasants.

During the Pontificate of Pope John Paul I, John Buchanan scored 3, Ray Bishop scored 2, Gary Stevens scored 1 and David Roberts scored 1
