Newport winning, Hartlepool losing
Newport out of the relegation zone. Can they hold on?
-
Re: Newport winning, Hartlepool losing
Hartlepool 2 down. Newport have to hold on.
Hartlepool then have to beat either Cheltenham (away) or Doncaster (Home) to have a chance of staying up.

The Great escape is on, Newport out of the zone.

Hats off for the "passion", but a lot of the time he comes across as a bit fake.
Offered to resign as club president if he's overstepped the mark. Says this is not Jones' level. Fair point, Jones has managed at higher levels but he joined after the transfer window closed and there's not much you can do in that situation.

Re: Newport winning, Hartlepool losing
To think that Newport were 11 points off safety last month. They have a great chance now.

Hartlepool have to win at Cheltenham or home to Doncaster.
Newport have Carlisle away and Notts County at home. They could lose both and stay up!
-
Re: Newport winning, Hartlepool losing
Fantastic win for County!

Crucially Cheltenham need to get something next week as well as they are not safe themselves. So that makes it harder for Hartlepool.

Distinct lack of class there by Jeff Stelling, to the point of bullying.
I like Stelling but no matter what you think of Jones, or any manager for that matter, that was well OTT. There should be neutrality in his position.
Sky... say no more!

Apparently he had an "off camera" rant after they lost to Orient. Only for it to be picked up on camera once the classified results finished. Completely staged. David Jones deserves a bit more respect than that, it's hardly an easy job is it?
He also said they need a new manager for the Cheltenham game when showing the tables. Poor show Sky/Stelling.

Dave Jones joined Hartlepool on 18 January 2017 which was during the transfer window.
As for not being able to do much after a transfer window has closed, what about Mike Flynn who took over at Newport in March & has done an amazing job?

OK, I stand corrected. However, the rant was completely wrong. If he is club president, he could have made his point off air.
Dave Jones is not a bad manager, let's be honest.

I don't know how you can say he is not a bad manager as his record with Hartlepool suggests that he is not that good anymore. I would say that he was not a bad manager but he was out of work for over 3 years prior to being appointed as Hartlepool manager & a lot can change in that sort of time. Just because he was a decent manager once doesn't mean that it will always be the case

In that case, then, Pele is shit and Cruyff has no pace anymore.

Do you think that Mourinho could replace Jones and keep Hartlepool up? It isn't as easy as you portray, Jones is a good manager at a poorly run football club. You obviously have no idea what has happened there in the last 18 months.

When Jones took over they were in 18th place, 11 points ahead of bottom placed Newport. They are now 23rd & 2 points behind Newport. Under Jones they have slid down the table at a rate of knots. I am pretty sure if Mourinho took over in similar circumstances then Hartlepool would not be in the dire position they find themselves in now.
Maybe Hartlepool should have appointed Mike Flynn as based on what he has achieved at Newport, he would probably have made a better fist of it than Dave Jones.

Hypothetical. Check back and see what has happened there in the last 18 months. The club has been on a downward spiral for a while.

Their league position when Jones took over is factual, not hypothetical.
Have the challenges they have faced in the last 18 months been any worse than a number of League 2 clubs, like Newport for example?

Yes, I would say they have. Newport's main issue this season has been the pitch, oddly their form has improved with the weather. Hartlepool's issues are not weather related.

Stelling is a great presenter but he is abusing his position demanding Dave Jones should be sacked.

Newport are facing a number of big challenges, not just a dodgy pitch. I agree that Hartlepool also have their issues but no more or less than a number of other lower division clubs.
-
Re: Newport winning, Hartlepool losing
Newport's next game is a side just outside of the play-offs so not easy. They have the better momentum but are still reliant on Hartlepool losing due to really poor standards earlier in the season.

Yes but Hatrlepool's final game is against Doncaster whereas Newport are at home to Notts County. Cheltenham will be all out to avoid defeat against Hartlepool as well otherwise they are right back in the mire themselves

Dave Jones is not a bad manager, let's be honest.
His record since leaving us hardly suggests him to be the great manager some City fans think he is.

Re: Newport winning, Hartlepool losing
Amazing comeback from Cewnty, made up for them, let's hope they finish the job. Dunno what they're going to do about their groundshare though, seems to have been a bloody disaster

Stelling has quit his "post" as club president at Hartlepool. :getscoat:

I can't say I've watched them at all to be honest but considering the vast majority of their points are gained at home it appears that they've found a way to play on THAT pitch and so it gives them a big advantage over the opposition who have to endure it for the first time.
The state of the pitch may well have saved them??

Since Mike Flynn took over they have achieved 10 points at Rodney Parade & 9 points on their travels so their upturn in fortunes is down to finding a way to win games both home & away
