Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Apart from getting up at stupid o'clock to watch city in places like Scarborough or Darlington I have never been much of a traveller .
Few holidays in Spain and Majorca when I was in my youth but usually Butlins Minehead , Tenby and Cornwall.
I hate flying and if I ever go abroad again I will save up for a mini cruise around the med
I would rather ponce around Porthcawl in the summer than naff off to Turkey and fry in the sun 🌞
People say travel the world but there are parts of Bridgend I don't know yet .
Keep it local .

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Yes every year without fail, love it.

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Been to 53 countries abroad so far (excluding transits) some of them many times.
About to add a 54th later this year (Canada).
There are parts of Bridgend I don't know either.

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Been to Thailand af ew times and the Philippines...and you know why:thumbup:

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
I've travelled a fair bit in recent years. Mainly around Europe, but also to Sri Lanka, India and Nepal. I had hoped to do more before I get any older, but Covid put a stop to all that. Maybe in the near future.

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Been abroad 3 times (by ferry) in 17 years. Would love to travel more but circumstances don't make it possible.
-
Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Been totally hooked on travel and have visited around 66 countries. Had trips to a number of countries including Argentina and Kazakhstan cancelled during Lockdown and today marks my re-introduction to foreign travel - and I am now at Bristol Airport in order to visit Gdansk for a few days.
Tromso in the Arctic Circle follows at the end of the month and Egypt is next month's destination. Thereafter I'll try again to get to Argentina and Kazakhstan.

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
A cruise really doesn’t appeal to me, not my thing.
Like to go abroad though, pre covid usually twice a year, a third if we could. Now probably once a year.

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Have been all over the world, I love travelling. Used to be paid to do it for work, but now I'm retired, still try and keep it up. Always look forward to see where Wales are playing away just to see if there is another interesting place to tick off!
Have driven in every continent if you don't count Antartica! The worst places, ignoring Albania who are a league of their own, are Portugual and Brazil. Must be somthing to do with Brazil being a Portugues colony when they started driving.

I’m not fussed on flying Sludge , however, I’ve got better as I enrolled on a Fear of Flying course , followed by a flight. Perhaps you could try this ?

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Yes, I absolutely love travelling around Europe in particular - doing so on the trains is something everyone should try and do once.
Big fan in particular of; southern Germany, Austria, Basque Country, Brittany.
Biggest let down - Milan.
-
Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
I love it and have to make up for lost time after the last two years. Went to Gran Canaria in March, going to Prague on Friday and Mexico in Sept
-
Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
Aye. I’ve done 10 flights & 8 countries already this year. Long weekend in Stockholm up next. Love flying, love different cultures etc.
Only missing continent is South America, so doing Ecuador / Chile next year.

I enjoyed Milan, although seeing a 3-2 Milan derby may have helped :hehe:

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
It’s good to see the world and see how other cultures live, glad I did most of it whilst I was young and carefree. Never really went on a package holiday, that just isn’t for me. Different with kids though, I don’t think I could spend 3 days on a cheap train ticket across India with my family….:hehe:
just think sludge, you will never see an Indian transvestite almost demanding cash off you on a train, it’s quite a sight….

Just bought an interrail this year for the family, few major cities (6 stops), nothing to far East and if the kids like it next year we'll go off the beaten track a little more.

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
By the way, after just walking around for half an hour before breakfast I recommend Gdansk very highly. It has a similar 'flavour' to Krakow and Prague but seemingly not yet on the stag/hen party circuit....
-
Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
I think I've been to 30 countries not including transits, which has dropped off massively in the last decade since having kids , will definitely be doing more once the finances allow

Attended a conference there a few years back and agree that it's a very nice city. Take a trip to Sopot if you have time, a resort on the Baltic a few miles away with a nice pier.

I'm just boarding a train to Gdynia for a more earthy experience than sophisticated Gdansk and may stop off at Sopot on the way back. Cheers.

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
On a ferry posting this on a ferry off Haugesund, Norway. Just visited a reconstruction of a Viking village (although the guide insisted it was a Germanic village) as the word ‘Viking’ wasn’t used at the time. We’ve had the week cruising the fyords, it’s not all about beach holidays, it’s a fantastic change from the Costas……Benidorm again in 6 weeks time though whoopee:hehe: Forgot Poland for the Wales game as well:thumbup:

I've never been on a package holiday before but am planning to do so in a few weeks. Always booked directly myself, often including 3 or 4 locations, but it's been a pretty exhausting couple of years workwise so just want to jump on a plane and be told where to go this time. And pretty much flop down there for 2 weeks.

Travel changes to suit your time in life, as a youngster I did mad stuff, backpacked a lot around the world ( I know we have chatted about Australia )
with family its a lot calmer and safer, but it ticks the box for family holidays
Im not at a point where I consider myself older, so cant common, but I sure as hall have become used to nice hotels and nice food
I mentioned on here a while back about going to Baja on a trip, pretty sure you were one of the guys who said " dont do it " ( I remember a few of the American members also said it ) I looked at Costa Rica instead, didnt book though as I managed to use the voucher to book up a flight to NY again

Yes all sorts of holidays abroad, usually three a year, and usually as cheaply as possible. A cruise is a great way to see a lot of famous and not so famous places quickly. Med is excellent for Barcelona, Rome, Pisa, South of France, Monte Carlo - Monaco and a load more in a week, the same with Caribbean you can see loads of the Islands in a week or two.
They are very marmite, most people say they hate the thought until they've done one, then the majority of those seem to love them.

we did a airtours cruise ( Airtours has just purchased a old ship and slightly refurbed it ) everyone we spoke to said it was the bottom of the cruise market and nothing like the big boys
did 2 ports in Egypt, 2 in Turkey and Beruit ( between wars )
We enjoyed it, Nice food, good entertainment and met some ok people
-
Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
I don't like relying on other people . They tend to feck things up .
Airports , all in one holidays , transfers to hotels , food , too much to go wrong
Get in the car , drive to tenby , curry , Chinese or traditional pub food . Three or four day break . Drive home .
Have it

Turkey felt like the hottest place on earth when I went there
Bodrum

always fancied Cuba, due to the fact that a 17 year old Matt liked the socialist ideas
10 years down the line I had the idea I had missed the boat with a " real Cuba " and didnt bother

We had a week on the coast last year, mid way between Gdańsk & the German border. The beaches are some of the best in the world. The area still has a heavy German influence & a high percentage of the properties are owned & let by Germans. It was a circumstance I didn’t expect.

Went with my wife before kids in 2006, Castro was still in power until 2008. Listening to live Cuban music every night with a nice mojito, lovely people, amazing…..there was a clamour for my Chile 62’s and Hamburgs but they just can’t get that stuff over there….

Re: Do you go abroad much ? Or at all ?
I live abroad and travel a lot for work.
I am concerned about the number of flights I take, but I guess some work needs people to move around.
A bit like Jon I am up to 50+ countries. Saying that as most of my travel in the last 15 years has been specifically for work it means I haven't enjoyed a holiday in these places. My holidays' these days is coming back to Cardiff although I can't remember where I have gone more than 2 days without working in the last 12 years.
Saying that I have started, recently to add on a day or two at the end of some work trips to recharge my batteries and see some of the places I visit. Stayed on in Zanzibar recently which was excellent and Indonesia.
I want (and Need) to go on a 'foreign' holiday next year and plan to take my daughter diving in the Maldives.
