I was surprised to see Penny Maudaunt as a front runner yesterday. Though she is quite impressive, she's not a headline name really.

Some Tory on the beeb just said next gov "will be Tory, or a Tory-led coalition"
He went on to say "people in this country are Tories, even if they sometime vote Labour"
WTF?

She's been keeping her head down so much most Tory watchers have forgotten her.

Re: The King is dead long live the King
I don’t understand how any right minded member of the public could vote for this party at the next GE.
Regardless of your political leanings, if the party you supported was so packed full of liars and incompetent morons I’d struggle to vote for them ever again.

Re: The King is dead long live the King
Steve Baker , slimey oily creep
The David Brent of the tory party

the system is far from ideal, tear it all up and start again.

Re: The King is dead long live the King
Whoever the Tories chose will get the chance to wash the stink of Boris off the party before the next General Election, sadly. Was hoping Boris would cling on for longer and burn the whole party down.
Seeing Conservative MP's talk about "values and integrity" when they've propped up Bojo for so long is laughable. We all knew who he was. Self serving hypocrites, the lot of 'em.

It's possibly (hopefully) a bit different from the Thatcher/Major reboot - Thatcher was well regarded while Boris's lunacies are clear to see and have tainted everything. He also benefited from the Brexit and not-Corbyn nonsense.
Apparently, yesterday Starmer called it the charge of the lightweight brigade which seems apposite so they'll probably flounder as much as Johnson.

Me too but I think the Tories are so riven by division they will be seen as too unstable and toxic for some time yet. I'm hoping the tide has turned and an era of progressive governance beckons.

Give me the leaders of the Welsh and Scottish governments over the current govt in Westminster any day.
-
Re: The King is dead long live the King
Damien Green has apparently said that Tom Tugendhat is going to stand for leader.
I have no vogte in tgi,I am not a Tory party member but for me it would be one of Tom Tugendhat, Penny Mordaunt or Ben Wallace depending on what they say during the election campaign

And you think that Labour isn't full of liars and incompetent morons ? If so you are deluded. It is also full of Communists, which is one reason why they are unelectable. The leadership fight a constant battle to keep the ‘reds’ hidden and quiet in the run up to an election, because they know that the British public wont stand for it. If they ever win, they resurface like rats from a sewer.

Yes, if we can get a new leader that can head up a party like Welsh Labour, achieve nothing in almost 25 years but get voted in year o year, that would be utopia

Liz Truss would be a disaster.
She has a condescending attitude to the media and voters in general.
How would she come across to other country leaders ?
