Well Captain Hindsight haunted the government throughout instead of taking a radical approach and challenge.. I'm guessing he loved Sage ... along Nicola of the North and Mark the Tsar of the South..

Drakeford was the worst, he wanted us locked down forever!

Re: Rishi Sunak on Covid lockdowns
The government's reaction to Covid is a classic case of "Damned if you do, damned if you don't", and like someone else said, it's easy to be wise after the event. They did what they thought was right at the time, and they made some mistakes, but they also got some stuff right. An awful lot of money was wasted, but what if things had got really bad? Then they'd have been heroes, ready and prepared for the worst case scenario.
One other problem with Covid is that we are going to be paying for it for years, just at a time when we can't afford to.

I don't really criticise any of them that much, because these were very difficult decisions.
But Drakeford had numerous advantages (didnt have to worry about the wider economic impact as much or make decisions on furlough, less densely populated communities etc etc)
Yet..
What did Drakeford do that was demonstrably different?
What end result was demonstrably different?

Don’t know about that, he ruined a few by locking down for the omicron over Christmas when the South Africans were busing telling the world it was far milder…..now he’s busing ruining the tourism industry

F*ck all of them. None of them live in my world anyway. It could be argued that not many do! :nurse:

Perhaps the so called conspiracy theorists shouldn't have been silenced so quickly.

Re: Rishi Sunak on Covid lockdowns
There speaks a man who’s trying anything to become Prime Minister. I for one am pleased that there was a tendency to err on the side of caution at a time when so little was known about Covid.

Wales isn’t less densely populated than England. If you take the base number of “population density” then sure, we’re less dense than England. But with a bit of common sense we aren’t. We’re 50 times denser than Australia but anyone that’s been to Sydney or Melbourne will know they make Cardiff look like a village.
Our people are much more consolidated than in England. Half our population are based within 50 miles of eachother in South Wales with a 1/3rd in only 3 major urban areas. The middle of Wales is basically empty. A large scale Covid outbreak in Cardiff or Swansea has much more of an impact than the same scale out break in Leicester, Reading, Bristol, Brighton, Plymouth, etc.

Industrial south Wales is very densely populated , from Newport through to Swansea and the valleys and towns off the M4 a covid outbreak had to be contained as much as possible

He just tried to be stupid and delay everything, damage tourism, damage the economy and made petty stupid rules like you can't drive five miles for the sake of it!
He proved if Labour was in full power, we would have locked down much harder for much longer and we would have been in a far worse position than we are now.

'course he did. Easy for you to say it but much harder to do when you actually have the responsibility of millions of lives with an ever-changing set of scenarios to have to contend with. All these post Covid arguments are futile.

Fakeford was in lockstep with most G7 countries. How is it Africa got away with Covid generally unscathed, my guess is that they didn’t use a testing system with a high false positive rate and didn’t test all deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

Thank goodness no one listened to the conspiracy theorists. Sunak just lost even the most miniscule degree of credibility he might have once possessed. Grandstanding in desperation to an odd minority suddenly with power conferred upon them.

He did. I knew that. He also asked it to be moved. If these threads show up in what I think is the football section, then, they're fair game for my snark. I hardly ever start threads and if I do, they're generally about football or they'll be asking for help advice (which this board is really good at delivering because there are some really good people around even if they're quiet most of the time - my fear, is they'll stop reading).
Some threads are started and people know full well it'll end up about politics. I'm now giving the politics board a swerve because it's f*cking crazy over there. There are still good posters but f*ck me there's stuff over there that's scary. We have threads f*cked up on a regular basis when they're about football but even those can get hijacked by basement trolls pretty quickly.
I'm just saying what a lot of people are thinking. If we don't fight this stuff, then there will just be :tumbleweed:

Why don’t you allow people with a different opinion to you have their say , ultimately the thread was in reply to a statement made by a person who could be the next prime minister
Clearly as much as you buy into the lockdowns and overreach there are plenty of posters who don’t ,if you don’t agree , don’t cry about it
-
Re: Rishi Sunak on Covid lockdowns
I'm not stopping anyone have their say. Certainly not crying about it. Isn't it funny how often the people who champion their right to 'having a different opinion' generally do so in response to someone with a different opinion?

Huh ? You tried to belittle my response by coming out with the lazy conspiracy theory dig which clearly isn’t the case when Sunak is making commentary of this nature

The law of unintended consequences were set in motion by these unpreceded lockdown measures, and things are about to get a whole lot worse with the new climate regulations causing the cost of energy to spiral out of control. People are going to lose their livelihoods and their homes, and should this terrible fait visit upon you, I hope you will take your own advice and air your grievances over there -------->

Yeah, because the first thing I'll think of is.......I must air my grievances over there ---------> That'll show 'em!
