Utterly disgraceful !!
Some committed suicide over it
It’s awful what so many of these people have been through.

Shocking that the Post Office continued to prosecute when the numbers of similar cases continued to increase.
And still paying the compensation due is being dragged out.
The CEO who was in charge of the post office at the time was awarded a CBE for her services to the post office - absolutely scandalous, you couldn’t make it up! They should be jailed for their incompetence and continued persecution, not rewarded. No doubt there was a lot of covering up going on too
ITV conveniently miss out that their former chairman was also chairman of royal mail during this scandal
Petition to strip Paula Vennells of her DBE has reached nearly 40000. It was on 15000 when I signed this morning. https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio...lls-of-her-cbe
Angela van den Bogerd, on leaving the Post Office in 2020, joined the FAW as ‘Head of People’. Only lasted as few months, her appointment was apparently a major reason in the no confidence vote in Jonathan Ford. We’re well rid in my opinion.

Post Office workers wrongly accused of stealing have highlighted that many of them are still waiting for compensation four years after winning a landmark court case proving their innocence.
Between 1999 and 2015 the Post Office relentlessly pursued branch owner-operators across the UK for alleged theft, fraud and false accounting, despite knowing that there were faults in Horizon IT software they were using, resulting in more than 700 prosecutions.
The scandal, frequently described as the most widespread miscarriage of justice in UK history, has now been dramatised in a series currently airing on ITV.

At the turn of the millennium I was called to jury duty at Newport Crown Court. The case I was selected for was a pre-trial hearing to assess whether a postmaster from Newport was fit to stand trial on charges of embezzlement. We heard from an expert witness that he had mental problems - whether these were brought on by the charges or pre-existing I don't know. I was inclined to accept their advice but the jury debate was a real eye-opener - one woman said 'oh yeah, I saw this on Eastenders. He's trying it on'.
Anyway, long story short, I wouldn't agree with the majority that he was fit to stand trial. Initially I was on my own but one woman then changed sides. The judge accepted a majority verdict though and he went to trial and was later found guilty and jailed.
When this scandal came to light I did think of looking into his case to see if he had been wrongly convicted but then decided I'd rather not know, even though I hadn't really been responsible.
British justice eh?

In the middle of binge watching it, I thought I knew quite a bit about what happened, but there’s so much in the programme that’s absolutely shocking.
This week's Computer Weekly article is well worth a read. They first wrote about it in 2009.
