Newcastle Takeover Done
Saudi Arabian-backed takeover of Newcastle United has been completed.
The Premier League has approved the takeover after receiving "legally binding assurances" that the Saudi state would not control the club.

Have you seen the woman who led the takeover bid ?
Something about the eyes

Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
Another failure by the fit and proper person test.
What I find irritating is the "woe is me" Newcastle fans with their regular stay in the premier league and their tight fisted chairman who has spent £20m+ on a player four or five times. It'll do them good to spend another season or two in the championship

To be fair there have been plenty of similar sized clubs and smaller clubs that have had more success than them.
It's their turn maybe and I couldn't begrudge them that.
Proper football City.

Yeah, human rights are overrated anyway.

Not likely now…

The Sunderland Message Board is busy as you can imagine.

Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
They do like a whinge up there. They’ll no doubt find fault with the new owners. Always a bit of an interesting circus, one thing I will say though is that everyone in the area seems to have an opinion and a view on the club’s goings ons. Always a love/hate relationship, love the club, hate the owners:hehe:

A sense of entitlement, perhaps?

They did win the FA Cup in 1955 mind, followed closely by the Inter City Fairs Cup In 1969 :hehe:

Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
All seems very fishy to me. Press are banging on about how they can now sign Mbappe and the like and Newcastle are now the richest club in the world.
Man City all over again really.
Modern football is just totally mental these days with top clubs needing to rely on Middle East, Russian and US billionaire corporations.

Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
They'll probably still be crap.

Did no one tell the Saudi’s they could have had us for 250 million less?:ayatollah:

I don't think they are looking for a bargain
-
Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
What are they looking for? Throw a billion at a club I guess it’s big. It’s cost the owners of Man City over a billion to get where they are, prob same for PSG. Neither won the big one yet.
-
Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
Even if they did reach the top 6 in the next few years, you get the impression they're just as likely to be bottom 6 again soon after.
-
Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
I understand the hypocrisy but god I hope they get relegated

God help Steve Bruce when he gets called in to see the new owners. Will he ever be seen again ☠️

Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
I have been thinking about this tonight,
And to take a alternative viewpoint, one could argue that as of today the incredible wealthy regime exists wether you like it or not, so we have two options, either not engage and take a moral high ground, or let them get involved and try and influence change from example.
Who knows maybe seeing women in high positions, LGBT campaigns, fans drinking and living liberally in our culture might slowly open minds, maybe not their current generation of rulers but their children and their children, maybe instead of shunning them, but leading by example, they might see some of the positives of western values.
The other point is financial, not allowing them to purchase newcastle does not change how much wealth they have, but surely spending 100's of millions in the UK is money that is coming into our economy, instead of theirs, I would rather Mbape paying 40% tax in this country than in France or Spain.

My prediction is that the will come third next season........it's going to be a tough Championship again!

They'll have a new European manager soon. And two or three marquee signings come January. With more to come next summer. I don't expect to see them drop out of the EPL for a long, long time.

Will they ever win anything?

Within the last ten years, Wigan and Leicester have won the FA Cup, Swansea have won the EFL Cup and Leicester have won the Premier League, while a mediocre Arsenal side has won the FA Cup three times, so there's no reason why Newcastle can't win something.

Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
For half a century and more, Newcastle United have equalled cock up. That should change in the coming years, but are some clubs just destined to fall short continuously? Man City were that sort of club until around a decade ago, so it can be done, but I just wonder if Newcastle are forever destined to cock up?

Chelsea were a fairly nondescript midtable club, but if i recall correctly (which is by no means guaranteed) they were more or less instantly elevated amongst the elite when the russian money arrived.
Man City took a little bit longer to get to the top, it seemed they struggled to attract big signings as quickly, and there was one more big club up there in the form of Chelsea. Of course having all that money has to tell eventually.
Newcastle are now trying to compete with Chelsea and Man City + the traditional big clubs, so it is already a more crowded scene, and at a time when even a newly promoted side can splash 100m on players and go straight back down. suspect that they may take that little bit longer to establish themselves at the top.
-
Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
Chelsea were always going to attract players as they are London based, Man City not so much , and Newcastle - hardly an outpost of culture.

Going by your logic with wigan and Leicester, they could have already……they never seem too. I don’t even recall if they’ve made it to a cup final in the last 30 years? Have they? Or semi?

Bit like us, even when we get a very wealthy owner we are still shiiiite

It's not my 'logic'. They were facts.
Newcastle were FA Cup runners-up in 97/98 and 98/99. They finished as Premier League runners-up in 95/96 and 96/97, and finished third in 93/94 and 2002/03.
The Manchester City comparison is a valid one. They had been nowhere near winning anything for decades until their current ownership took over.
-
Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
It’s funny how they never question the Saudi regime when it comes to horse racing - the sport of kings, but a good working class game - the beautiful game as the fit and proper test..this deal should have gone through in 2017.

They had a good run mid 90’s I recall, was that with KK as manager?
-
Re: Newcastle Takeover Done
A lot depends on who they install as manager and what players (if any) they can attract in January.
Their fans will expect immediate results but it could still be a very long season for them trying to avoid relegation.

93/94 and 95/96 - Kevin Keegan
96/97 and 97/98 - Kenny Dalglish
98/99 - Ruud Gullit
02/03 - Bobby Robson

I completely agree and it's not hypocrisy mate. Tan may have done a few dodgy deals but he hasn't funded Al Qaeda, bombed Yemen, chopped up journalists he doesn't like or beheaded homosexuals.
The amount of whataboutery going on from Newcastle fans online is unbelievable. It's moral relativism at its worst.
