FT: CARDIFF CITY 0 - 1 WOLVES. Match thread

Cardiff have the chance to close the gap on leaders Wolves to three points tonight at CCS in one of the biggest games the team has faced for a long time.

City start the day in second place six points behind the leaders and five points ahead of 3rd placed Fulham. It's the first game of a West Midlands double header with City going to 4th placed Villa on Tuesday.

The game this evening at will see a record crowd for a Cardiff City game at CCS and the biggest in south Wales since Cardiff faced Hereford at Ninian Park in 1976 in front of over 35,000.

Victory would put pressure back on Fulham, who face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow at Hillsborough, and Villa who are away at Norwich. A Wolves win would just about wrap up their promotion.

Joe Ralls and Matt Connolly could feature for Cardiff in the top-of-the-table Sky Bet Championship clash with Wolves on Friday night.

Midfielder Ralls hasn't played since February due to a hamstring injury, while Connolly has been out for a month and is edging closer to full fitness. Jazz Richards and Danny Ward remain sidelined.

Ruben Neves and Matt Doherty both return from their one-game bans and should come back into the line-up after Wolves drew 2-2 with Hull on Tuesday night.

Nuno could make some other changes to his side but otherwise has no fresh injury concerns.

Opta stats

Cardiff have won four of their last five Championship meetings with Wolves (L1), including the last two at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Wolves have kept one clean sheet in their last 12 away matches at Cardiff in all competitions (W3 D3 L6), a 1-0 win in February 2015.

Wolves have scored the first goal in 28 league games this season, winning 25 of those games (D3) - both league-highs.

Cardiff have won 10 and lost none of their last 13 league games. They've also won each of their last seven home league games - they last won eight in a row back in December 2012 (10), a season in which they won the Championship.

Kenneth Zohore has had a hand in six goals in his last seven league games (four goals, two assists), after assisting just one goal and scoring none in his previous eight.

No Championship player has provided more assists this season than Wolves' defender Barry Douglas (14). It's the most assists by a Wolves player in a Championship campaign since Michael Kightly delivered 18 in 2008-09.

Match officials

Referee: MICHAEL DEAN
Assistants: Ian Hussin and Daniel Robathan
Fourth Official: James Linington

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Think it's all about who an cope with the pressure over the last few games. I think we know Warnock can, hopefully his players will as well.
Thought Nuno was a little bit fraught in his interview but his players are good enough to see Wolves over the line. Hopefully not tonite though!

Best you don`t go then, wolves have a relatively easy run in, are they going to risk mixing it tonight or will they think they have the games to win the Championship against the bottom sides.

Grujic out injured, Bryson in.
Pelts and Wildschut in for Manga and NML
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Wildschut started strongly but faded when last in the starting 11.
NML as impact sub in 2nd half?

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
How the **** is that not a penalty?
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
If that isn't the most obvious pelanty of all time on Morrison then I don't understand the rules.
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Solid first half that, kept Wolves at bay. Defensive shape is spot on.
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Game could go either way. No doubt it will open up second half.
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Wildchild off NML on for me
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
For most of the season we've been better in the second half. Just saying...... and hoping.

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Cardiff 1st half possession: BBC say 32%; Sky say 40%
That is quite a difference.
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Happy with that, Wolves play pretty football but our centre-halves have been on top.

Guardian said 28%
Looked fairly even to me.

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
That Paterson injury could be a problem - he was playing RB in a back 6, and NML won't like that as much (although he might be more dangerous at the other end).

Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Brilliant performance by the Wales women’s team holding England 0-0 tonight in a WC qualifier.
Keeping track on this game. One goal will win it. Come on Caerdydd.

WHY THE **** DID MADINE TAKE THAT?
****ing stupid.
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Oh my Christ, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
We have thrown that away, 2 golden opportunities.
We need character to pick ourselves up from this. ****ing gutted.
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
WHAT. THE. FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
F***king shocking penalty. I could see from his run up that he wasn't gonna score it.
Pissed off with that. Not a good performance for me.

Only Cardiff City....
How to ruin a weekend in 2 minutes!
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
WHAT THE F***? My stream died before the end...WE MISSED 2 F**CKING PENALTIES?!?!?!
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
Why didn't Gunnarson take them? Both pens were shocking.
All you have to do is ****ING SMASH IT!!!
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v WOLVES. Match thread
If Fulham win tomorrow the pressure is on big style.
We’ve done that to ourselves there, absolutely criminal to miss two good opportunities for a point like that.

This! Can't quite believe what I just watched. Could be very very costly.
