Starting 11 as it stands
Lots of options, but I'd go for
Camp ( only because I've no idea if Etheridge is any good. I'd hope he is as I'm not convinced Camp is as good as he was)
Morrison
Manga
Bamba
Bennett
Richards ( Patterson maybe when fit)
Ralls
Gunnar
Hoillett
Ward
Zohore
I guess we need another CM in there instead of Hoillet , but not many options at the moment. Hopefully something which will be dealt with.
Maybe Pilkington would be a better option?
Or 4-3-3
Camp
2 of Morrison, Bamba, Manga
Richards, Bennett
Pilkington Ralls Gunnar
Hoillet Ken Ward
Some pretty decent cover with the likes of Peltier, Connolly, Harris, Patterson, Saadi, and Mendez-Laing not in here. That would make a decent bench, with hopefully 2-3 more to add.
Still have to move a couple out, all gone a bit quiet on No one and Lambert looks like he will cost us, although if he stays and is fit I'd still have him in the bench as he's better cover than Fred as target man cover for Zohore

Re: Starting 11 as it stands
Etheridge
Paterson Morrison Bamba Bennett
Harris gunnarsson ralls hoilett

Re: Starting 11 as it stands
Hoillett doesn't produce enough to be in the starting line-up.

Agree that he needs to be a lot more consistent, but not sure who else to put in who is any better

Re: Starting 11 as it stands
We are not going to play our way to promotion are we!
I'd push the boat out for Sam Gallagher (6'4"), sign that midfielder we were linked with from Belgium Sidy Sarr (6'5") and any other freaks cheap and available and aim to be physically dominant. We've got a few long throw specialists. We could replace Vinces drums with air raid sirens

Sam Gallagher signed a new long term contract at Southampton yesterday with Southampton so that is not an option unless they are willing to loan him out for the season.

Don't think Paterson is at Cardiff to be cover.
I'm very tempted by the notion of three centrebacks, but I expect us to be play with a back four most of the time. Warnock has said a few times that he likes playing with wingers and I'd expect us to have two of them for home games especially, with our full backs also pushing on and a central midfield two providing cover against counter attacks - something like a 4-2-3-1 with attacking full backs.
-
Re: Starting 11 as it stands
Notice not one of you thinks Kadeem Harris should be anywhere near the team !
Strange, as he has the only real pace out of all the players at Cardiff City.
I am not saying that I m a great admirer (he needs a better last pass/finish), but just saying that none of you mentioned him.

I've got Paterson as cover as I don't expect him to be fully fit by the start of the season.
Once he's sorted he'll be pushing for Richards' spot

He's literally in 50% of the starting 11s proposed above.

My excuse is "it was a cracking wedding yesterday" :hehe:
I see what you're saying, but in Tim's post, it's as if he's an afterthought and the same with the others on re-reading.
No one puts him in the team or on the bench, they say alternatively Harris, which to me is an afterthought.
But I take in your point.

Re: Starting 11 as it stands
Etheridge
Manga Morrison Bamba
Richards Gunnerson Paterson

I think this is a reasonable shout for at least a couple of our games this season - with Manga or Bamba popping out into midfield to support Gunnarsson as needed. This needs the front 8 to work their arses off though if they're going to make it work
-
Re: Starting 11 as it stands
I think Morrison will leave once a better offer comes in and a new starting midfield is a really need. However if we had a game tomorrow then
Camp
Peltier, Bamba, Manga
Richards, Gunnerson, Ralls, Bennett
Ward, Zohore, Harris

Re: Starting 11 as it stands
I hope Mendez-Laing gets a chance.
He's supposed to be an exciting winger. Maybe he'll get a start v Pompey if he's not in the side for the Burton game.
We should be looking to improve on last season, not be exactly the same.

Do agree , however Harris and Holiet should be the starters ,however he and on other should provide pressure for the wide positions ,we need them all eleven looking over their shoulders at the bench ,knowing if they fail some is up for it and capable ,and the Warnock will reach them off and play others ,utopia.

Can see Cardiff City will produce some beautiful passing football with those players...
Brazil 1970 esque.

Good thing is no one gives a toss about your opinion.
The usual 6 points off your useless pile of shit will do for a start

HOOOOOOOOOF
TOILET UP THROWS?
What's your percentage possession going to be? 25% this season?

What does toilet up throws mean?

Re: Starting 11 as it stands
Whichever way you look at it midfield is weak.

Re: Starting 11 as it stands
If Warnock plays with 3 at the back in Morrison, Manga and Bamba he has to have wing backs, which would probably be Richards and Bennett which is fine. But if you have wing backs then there's no room for Harris, Hoilett or Ward to play out wide. But it does mean you can have 3 centre midfielders in Gunnarsson , Ralls + 1 other, probably Halford! that allows us to play two up front , Zohore and Ward.No point giving Peltier anew contract if he's going to play wing backs.
This is how we started last season and it didn't work.
I think Warnock is more likely to stick with 4-5-1 or 4-4-2.
Etheridge: Peltier, Morrison, Manga, Bennett: Harris, Gunnarsson, Ralls, Hoilett: Zohore, Ward. Subs: Camp, Richards, Bamba, Halford, + any 3 who are left here or new signings. No place for Noone, John or Pilkington because hopefully they'll leave.

Bamba only on the bench !!. After being one of the players of the season - doesn't make sense. Its no contest for me - Bamba ahead of Manga or Morrison every time. He can actually tackle and mark players out of the game, unlike the other two who are both prone to errors and lapses of concentration.

Towelled up throw ins....
Warnock's teams are known for it and looking at that side it will be physical, route one, hoofball with about 30% possession.
Pretty much exactly the opposite of how we finished last season.

Looks good. But I would swap mendez-Laing for harris, or even Noone or Pilks (if still here) instead of Harris. Harris better coming on from the bench.

Agreed. Bamba first choice every time.

In 17th, despite having spent at least £10m (that £10m isn't including undisclosed fees)

Re: Starting 11 as it stands
I'd rather have Manga over Bamba. Bamba is nearly 33 and Manga 28. All 3 are prone to the odd error but Manga can play football. Agreed Bamba made an impact last season but this could be his last year with us. maybe we'll sell Morrison for £3m+ and play Manga and Bamba with Connolly as back up?

I'd imagine any bids of £5m+ for Morrison and he'll be gone
Selling Morrison for £5m+ and playing a centre back partnership of Manga-Bamba seems the ideal situation
