Re: Shrewsbury v Cardiff
Strange to see squad named without Whits.
But we move on.
Quite an exciting line-up .

Blackburn are taking on Grimsby Town tonight. No idea if Whits is playing but if he is I'm sure Russell will have a plan to stifle his creativity.

Still talking about Russell right?

Re: Shrewsbury v Cardiff
Still no sign of Camp & also no Murphy tonight. With Camp's continued absence looks like Etheridge will start the season & he will have a great opportunity to establish himself as our No 1 keeper

Camp has been living rough on the streets for 9 months. He'll need a good few weeks to get up to full fitness.

He's the manager of Grimsby Town.

Grimsby beat Tavistock 7-1 last week

I hope there is no problem with Murphy - and this is more about giving Byrne experience with the first team.
-
Re: Shrewsbury v Cardiff
In think Etheridge will be a surprise package.

Goal. Shrews 0-1 City. Tap in for Mendez-Laing after Zohore battled well in box.
HT 0-1

Re: LATEST: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
Two in two mins for Shrewsbury. First one a penalty

Re: LATEST: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
Looks like we're going to give away lots of pens this season if pre-season is anything to go by...
-
Re: LATEST: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
Looks like another relegation battle beckons.
-
Re: LATEST: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
Thank god we picked up the three points against Tavistock or we could be slipping into the relegation zone
-
Re: LATEST: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
This is turning into a useful test.
Defensive worries - in the area of the squad's greatest strength (allegedly).
According to the iFollow commentary Etheridge has been a bit shaky this half - but rather now than Burton!

Re: LATEST: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
Shrewsbury, Champions League contenders this year.
-
Re: LATEST: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
City second best in second half. We aren't cutting through them like they are through us. And their fans are making Etheridge uncomfortable.
To be honest it should be 4 - 1 at least.

Etheridge isn't even a good keeper at League 1 level. I think we have a strong first 11, a few good backups but beyond that we lack quality.
We'll flirt with the playoffs.

Re: FT: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
My 1st away game since Oxford in a pre season friendly a few years back.
Left with 10 minutes to go. Played well 1st half but second half they were all over us and should have scored 5.
Our Keeper was dodgy, kept kicking it out into touch from goal kicks.
He did make one world class save though.

Re: FT: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
I won't write etheridge off yet. It's one pre season game.

Distribution from the 'keeper is one of the more important aspects of the game these days. Etheridge's kicking has never been good.

Leave it there Pep, it's not that important at this level, especially if you're a Neil Warnock team who don't play it out from the back.
Marshalls distribution was one of the poorest parts of game and he's been one of the best keepers in this division over several years.

Like Marshall then

Re: FT: Shrewsbury 2 - 1 Cardiff
Same as Marshall, his kicking was woeful too.

Etheridge's distribution is worse than Marshall's. Distribution from the 'keeper is important, even more so if you are not playing it from the back. Unless you think it makes sense to have the ball coming back at you from every goal kick.

If Etheridge was Scottish, undoubtedly he would be getting just as many caps as Marshall. Etheridge is nothing like Marshall, hopefully Camp will be available before we have to find out.
