Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
Did a lot of good in the past two decades and a lot of bad preceding that. So I can undersgand both the praise and bile surrounding his death. However as Colin Parry says he was brave and put his own life at risk to achieve a lssting piece. He did have blood on his hands though.

Freedom fighter to some.
Terrorist and murderer to others.
Depends on your point of view.

I have a good mate who is from Tramore in the republic. His view on this seems to be that the leaders of the various factions decided to put down their guns and start the peace process when they realised it was a young man's game and they could no longer command as they had done previously. He really did hate the violence and said it just was not the Irish way at all.

I don't think there's much o a coincidence that they put down their guns at around the same time that the Catholic population became larger than the Protestant.

How can someone who was instrumental in planting bombs that killed innocent civilians and children NOT be a murderer?
-
Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
"Prime Minister Theresa May said although she could never "condone the path he took in the earlier part of his life, Martin McGuinness ultimately played a defining role in leading the republican movement away from violence"."
Violence that he was instrumental in instigating!! It's disgraceful the way he is held up as some sort of "hero" for his role in eliminating violence when he was the one who was accelerating it. The man has innocent blood on his hands and has now taken his seat in hell - right next to the one with Gerry Adams' name on.

Alan Partridge was right though- he does look like a clown without the make up

At least he didn't need to inhale helium during interviews to detract credibility from his statement.

Another thought is that the Loyalist paramilitaries were taking the war to the Republican community and winning the war.

My thoughts exactly. There's no honour in killing innocent civilians.

I don't think you can win a war like that.

Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
It's common knowledge now that the Protestant terrorists were an arm of the British state; virtually all were informants. Many within the IRA didn't trust Adams and especially McGuinness, both of whom emerged from the conflict without a scratch and served little jail time. It's been rumoured for years that McGuinness was an MI6 agent codenamed The Fisherman. It would explain the gushing praise Blair gave him this morning.

Exactly!
There are are no winners and hence why SF/IRA were forced to go down the political route.

Your link doesn't seem to support really any of the preceding statement.?

Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
let's all take a quick dose of reality. He was a man who instigated/allowed/ordered murder. He was a terrorist. Just the same as Nelson Mandella was. Mandella in the cause of SA freedom planted a bomb that killed a lot of black african citizens.
The were both rehabilitated for political reasons.
It is not "common knowledge: that the loyalist terrorists were an arm of the British state. That is a catch all phrase that is total bollox.
Also do not be fooled by the catholic/protestant labels. There were/are many catholic loyalists and just as many protestant republicans,
The current troubles began as a protest 'One man one vote' movement to stop the automatic re-election of loyalist governmetns (Gerry Adams and Bernadette Devlin - both later teorrorists)
The Oira called atruce in about 1970/71 but certain factions callec a'provisional council of war' from which sprand the pira or provos (from provisional) their initial intent may have been admirable but it rapidly descended into the usual circumstance of protection rackets drugs and money, and it still is.
some may have read reports of irish gangs moving into Edinburgh to try to take over the drug trade armed far better than the local thugs.
Hard nosed violent thugs on both sides using bright eyed idealists to carry out the dirty work and be shot/martyred whilst they sat/sit in the shadows and rake the money in.
nothing has changed and it never will.

It's quite straightforward. It happens all the time in wars.

Murder is the unlawful killing of another human without justification or valid excuse, especially the unlawful killing of another human being with malice aforethought. Are you saying that IRA bombing innocent civilians was justified or that they had a valid excuse? Or are you just going off at a tangent?

The same comment is wheeled out by those that defend absolutely any slaughter of jews near their "war zone".
Palestinian deaths are a tragedy carried out by the powerful evil, Israeli deaths are an acceptable result of them living in a war zone.
Mainly peoples agenda is what dictates what they care about, not genuine loss of life.

Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
Sinn Fein politician Martin McGuinness has died. He was killed by a rare condition that attacks the vital organs.
I think it’s called Jameson's.
-
Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
I hope he died in agony, the murdering ****.
-
Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
How about some " McGuinness Flint " to send him off ?

Can you explain unlawful killing ? It suggests to me that there must be some form of lawful killing.
It just depends on who is making up the rules.

Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
But when the British do it it is colatterel damage.

The Ministry of Defence use the term for a start:
https://modmedia.blog.gov.uk/2015/12...-need-to-know/
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...nocent-4915208
There are hundreds of examples if you do a quick search. The US military may have popularised the expression (to make the killing of civilians sound less like killing) but it is now used everywhere. Maybe the distinction you and TBG are looking for is 'unintended' or not rather than 'lawful' or not? Either way it is semantics.

It's a legal definition you can look up yourself.

Norman Tebbit gave him the send off he deserved.
Can't understand why he wasn't jailed for life.
And Gerry Adams
It's a joke that they got into power after what they did.
Still I guess in a country where we still have a Royal Family you can get rewarded for being a mass murderer if you grease the right palms
-
Re: Martin McGuinness dies...
After what they did? and you use that arsehole Tebbit as your spiritual advisor- I think you will find that the Royal family you mentioned have a lot more blood on their greasy palms than any Irishman alive or dead.
