Re: Didn’t realise David Marshall was still playing !
Yeah. Funnily enough, I've got an invitation to go and watch them via the other half of someone at the club (the full hospitality package....no...not like that you filthy lot). Never been there so I fancy it. Anyone been to their ground recently. Jimmy?

Its been a while , Rangers fans aren't that welcome in Leith. Had a bit of bother in a pub there many years ago , ended up in the police station . Police very kindly took us back to the game after questioning , they put us in the Hibs end . That was an uncomfortable afternoon.

........ bit OT maybe but for some reason I don't really associate hooliganism with Scottish football ......not in the same way you do with english, french , italian football. Is there a "firm" culture in the Scottish leagues ?

Scottish football led the way in hooliganism unfortunately . Personally it almost affected my life path .
This was quite infamous back in the day
https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/spo...ligans-7899872
We didn't only fight with all away fans we fought amongst each other, wanting to be king pins at Ibrox.
It was a violent environment, that I was happy to leave .Judges were giving out big sentences to curb the violence.
Modern day Scottish football have their Ultras , well Rangers have , hopefully adding to the atmosphere rather than hooligans.

Where, exactly, are Rangers fans ‘welcome’ :hehe:

Anywhere you think Cardiff City supporters are welcome, other than Cardiff ?

Thanks for the reply earlier Jimmy. Appreciated. I'm going to take up the offer to go to Hibs. Not sure it'll be this season now but maybe one of their early matches next season. Scotland in August/September seems much more enticing than the winter months.

A massive firm culture in Scotland. Hibs are known as the Capital City Service.

Visited Easter Road a few times, worth the visit and the pre match experience is very decent with sn abundance of pubs around.
If with the wife, Edinburgh is easy on the eye although I do like Leith which is a lot grittier than the city centre.

Cheers, Jordi. Thanks for that. Yeah. Mrs C will be there. My friends live in Stirling. I'm really up for it to be honest. Never been to a match in Scotland but it's on the bucket list.

One of the best cities about for a city break . Great vibe to it , did a bit of walking in the Pentland Hills early December on my way up North . Liked the look of the Christmas Markets so did an Easy Jet city break (great value) before xmas , watched Real Betis v Rangers in a West End sports bar with a fellow Rangers supporter (from Edinburgh), a Celtic supporter a Hibs supporter and a load of people who couldn't care less .
Do the castle and all the cheesy tourist places . You will love it.

Fully agree. Edinburgh is a great city to visit and got plenty to do.
I love Glasgow too as its got plenty going on but usually found in The Horsehoe, Pot Still and a whole host of other public houses.
Done quite a few Pollok matches and even ventured into Shettleston last year to watch Glasgow United. Ended up in a pub in Shettleston which was interesting and great people.

David Marshall still playing and doing his bit for ‘Visit Scotland’ on this thread, versatility at its finest :hehe:

Some of the most serious disorder I’ve seen was at Barry Town V Aberdeen.
Hibs are nasty and been to two of their games

Re: Didn’t realise David Marshall was still playing !
I went up to Easter Rd yrs ago to watch us play Hibs in a pre season friendly. Can’t remember the yr, but we got beat 2-1, Earnie scored our goal.It was feisty outside the ground for sure.
There was only between a 100 and 200 of us, but a police escort was required as all their nutters were out that day.
One of our boys stood near me had a burst eye,
Said he’d gone in a local boozer for a pre game pint and some Hibs fan gave him a doughboy before he even got to the bar 😁

Re: Didn’t realise David Marshall was still playing !
When we played Falkirk a few pre seasons back, there were pubs that wouldn’t serve City fans, very strange.

I was up for that game as well. They only had 3 stands at the time, and the ball got lost over a wall a few times during the game 😂
We also played Kilmarnock and Hamilton on that mini Scottish tour.
They were right shitholes !

Do you recall their fans booing Loovens because, apparently, he chose us over them. Wasn’t it a hedge or row of trees down that touchline to our left?

I seem to recall it was just a wall down one side, with a bit of waste land behind it.
Can’t remember the booing of Loovens, but I do remember the Falkirk fans singing about how quiet we were, and this City fan standing near me , shouting “we only sing for teams with 4 stands” 😂

The Horsehoe is bang in the middle of the City Centre but still retains the grittiness of Glasgow , great place for a spot of people watching .
You wont find any tourist information on drinking in Pollock or Shettleston anywhere . Visiting the locals pubs in any of the schemes is usually only for the brave ,specially if you aren't introduced. It may have matured somewhat in my absence.

Only been to Glasgow once Jimmy, to the Barrowlands to see Big Country. What a cracking venue that was.
Also found a boozer the next day near Queen St train station called McSorleys. Live music all day and night, and the clientele were brilliant. A right mixture of old , middle aged and young. Some right characters amongst them. 👍

I saw Simple Minds there when I was about 18, great venue , they were a bit of a local cult band in Scotland at the time , loved The American and Celebrate. Big Country , top band full of energy .
You are on the border of civilisation in the Barrows. Just up the road there is an awful football team that play in green..:hehe:
