Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)

Recently, LGBT sport team in Gdansk had teeth broken & hospitalised in targeted attack. Poland ranked EU’s most homophobic country & local govt declare towns “free from LGBT ideology”. Anyone in football gonna mention it before Europa final?

Currently 0-0 with Dan James on the bench. 25 minutes in and 1 shot on target between them with it being from Villarreal.

Of course Man United have qualified for Champions League next year whereas Villarreal haven't. At the moment it's difficult to see Man United not winning and instead case of whether it's in normal time or not.

Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Oh man I hope Dan James doesn't miss a penalty

Ole shat it, was thinking of pelanties from a long way out.
Rashford must only have been kept on to take one, he's been terrible.

is this going to go on all night ?

Best quality shootout I’ve ever seen, 21 near perfect penalties and then De Gea

Never looked liked saving one either.
Crap game, feel a bit for Ole but he brought it on himself.

Should have been retaken, goalie was well off his line

20 Luke Shaw was lucky. Poor pen.

Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Apparently DeGea hasn’t saved a penalty in years and it showed. Didn’t look like saving any of them. He was still a lot better than Shilton was in 1990 though.
As for the game, I think Ole bottled it. Never went for it and didn’t freshen the side up with subs until too late.
-
Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Only Ole could lose that. No tactical changes, no substitutions, no clue. Villa Real made up of Premier League cast offs - Moreno, Capoue, Coquelin, Foyth - but Emery had them organised to within an inch of their lives, impressed.

Yes. A trophy may have bought himself some time and possibly grow into the job but I fear for him after that.
Fred on for Greenwood. WTF?
Playing for pens with his team of superstars against that team is not what is expected by the board of a MU manager.

Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Before tonight the only titles Villarreal had won were the Tercera División in 1969-70 and UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2003 and 2004. They had been runners up four times in various Spanish divisions.

Poor united
I am devastated for their fans who have stuck by them through these lean years

DeGea didn't even look like he was trying to save any

Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Never seen 21 conservative Pens go in before - both keepers were crap and I wouldn’t have any of them down here.
I think we are fortunate enough to have a very strong GK set up.

Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Villarreal penalties were amazing....
-
Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Whilst the penalties were of high quality I dont think I've ever seen a keeper (De Gea) look so disinterested in saving them.
-
Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Why do goalies dive early ? If De Gea stays upright he would have saved at least two of them. It appears to happen in every shoot out.

We take it again. This is Pau Torres in 1997 he was born in Villarreal a town of only 50,000, at the age of 6 he joined the clubs youth teams. Today he was vital as his Villarreal won their first ever trophy and became the team from the smallest town to ever win a European title!

50,000!!
A football culture, good coaching, forward thinking and now a major trophy and Champions League football as a reward. It's such an embarrassment how our team have spent money when they've had it.

let in 11 penalties and then missed his own.
I wonder if he had money on Villarreal to win :hehe:
as bad as shilton was in the 1990 world cup for England, he never looked like getting any either.

I’ve never seen a keeper look less like saving them. They were amazing but I’d say at least 2 were savable.
Wasn’t the 6th straight down the middle? I always think when it comes to sudden death keepers should stay in the middle and dive late. Always a good chance of one being hit straight.

Jan Oblak once did that vs Real Madrid, stayed standing in the middle for every kick and didn't save any. Madrid won 5-3 and he looked like an idiot

Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Thrilled for the Villarreal supports first big trophy its a very small place .
Manure are a dreadful side need a massive overall ( again ) bits of quality up front, especially Cavani
-
Re: Man United v Villarreal (Europa League final)
Villareal have often been decent in Europe haven't they? They had a good team when Riquelme played for them years back

I wouldn't say they are dreadful - there are definite issues but they are a couple of good signings and a good start away from being title challengers I'd say.
The problem will be that you'd expect Liverpool and Chelsea to be better next season, and Man City are just ridiculously good.

He was awful. I don't know if Henderson was on the bench, but if he was then the manager will be haunted by the decision not to tactically bring him on.

Don't joke - I know a ManU fan (from Buckinghamshire) who swears blind that she's not a glory supporter because the year she started supporting them they didn't win any trophies (they finished second in the league)

Yes his body language was very strange even the first few taken it was like he didn't want to be there , most world class keepers ( who he is allegedly one of) usual save one in ten at least . I wonder if OGS must be looking tentatively examining Henderson penalty save stat's ,lol

I think Henderson was and one of the commentators joked he might be brought on like Holland did for their shoot out.
Hendson has saved 8 from 19
De Gea 11 from 64
