Re: Christmas Gift's, What did you get ? ?
Christmas is for the children. When did it become an excuse to lavish gifts on each other? If I want trainers I'll buy my own.

You obviously didn't get a book on the right time to use apostrophes.

Re: Christmas Gift's, What did you get ? ?
Happy bunch on here :hehe:
I have become a big fan of the Vans Ultra range in recent years.
Good all rounder that I can wear down the pub or walking the dogs - https://www.vans.co.uk/shop/en-gb/va...es-vn000bcebxv
so to answer the question got a pair of these from my mother, and everyone else in my life we have a no present reciprocity pact, which does make the holidays a lot easier.

Re: Christmas Gift's, What did you get ? ?
Boring I know sorry, but Doris and I agreed quite a few years ago, no presents or cards between us, it's just pointless, we buy what we need when we need it. I have my eye on a couple of things I want, monitor and docking station, but will wait a few weeks or so to get them. (and not because of the scam sales) :-)

Re: Christmas Gift's, What did you get ? ?
I got a whetstone type thing for sharpening my Japanese kitchen knives and a cast iron cooking pot (didn’t want to say I got a Dutch Oven, for Christmas).

We are pretty much the same. The only gift I opened was a secret santa. If I need anything I get it as I go along. My mum did give me some money to get a bottle of after shave because I couldn't decide which one I wanted. Mrs M might get herself a treat under the guise of a present. But it's something she chooses and gets so it's the right thing.

Didn't know you did sea fishing as well as river fishing?
Will you use a large fixed-spool with that beachcaster or a multiplier?

I use both but prefer a fixed spool as where I fish its very rocky and snaggy ground and the fixed spool is quicker at getting the tackle and fish back in without losing it all
Multipliers tend to be slower

Ah, right.
I only ever used a multiplier once (it was loaned to me for the day, by the company manager I was working for).
I had previously used a fixed-spool and when he asked me if I knew how to use a multiplier, I just nodded my head (well, what could go wrong, eh?).
First cast.... the mother of all birds nests!
Never used one since.

Re: Christmas Gift's, What did you get ? ?

Re: Christmas Gift's, What did you get ? ?
Yes Matt the Star Wars Lego collection has been updated, some good deals on very which I was too weak to refuse….Yavin 4 rebel base down to £80 from £140….got the ghost too, not sure whether to build it or put it in the attic and wait for it to triple in price like so many other sets….
https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/g...antom-ii-75357
Apart from the Lego side hobby it was boring stuff like boss aftershave and vans socks….I got way too many pairs of vans and about 25 adidas (5 brand new still in boxes for 5 yrs) so there is no way the wife will buy me anymore:xmashehe:
Got the obligatory book but one I’m looking forward too, “riding so high” the Beatles and drugs…
We dont spend much on each other these days, it all goes to the kids….and on food!

A mate knowing I was going to the shops asked me if I’d get him a Daily Mail and a Sun…… I bought an illustrated copy of anal sex for beginners to put them inside of to save the embarrassment when out on the street.

myself and the wife went the other way, when our kids got older and the oldest had a new phone and the youngest a City away shirt with Rambo on the back ( youngest was especially hard to buy for, she said " Dad, I dont need anything and im happy with a away shirt " that was that )
We decided to buy stuff we wouldnt normally buy, like the cactus jacks, I would never justify them, so the mrs got them as a gift

Good reels for casting long distances on clean sand but not really strong enough to cope with rocky , weedy ground
I don't know where you grew up fishing but sully island , Rhoose, Aberthaw, llantwit , nash point are snaggy places
If you were fishing off the knap pebbles onto sand .....Great reel

Cod season was always Pebbles, right at the end of my time fishing, I had a mobile phone ( Nokia 3210 ) and would phone for a pizza delivery ( felt like billy big balls then )
other times exactly your lists, though thats where most from Barry / vale will fish , porthkerry aswell , Jacksons bay ( on the breakwater and Nells point ) Frairs point, Bendricks ( which was my least fav and you lost alot in them rocks )

You are right about the different definitions. However, when I was a kid growing up in the 60s, there was only daps available (black or white and elasticated or lace-up). Trainers came on the scene in the mid to late 70s.
