Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons
I'm sure many will say Bellamy's at the Caravan Park, but here's a youngster with hardly any football league experience, having not been involved and not touched the ball, comes on as a sub, controls one perfectly, gets a yard and scores a screamer. Remarkable.

Well the crossfield pass from Collins was pretty cool 😎 to set him up

Every time Ive seen him play he has impressed just like Siopuls.Always felt Tanner should start - his link up play with Colwill is great to watch.
Sir Ollie Tanner now a city Legend along with Sir Arron Ramsey - free chips for life in Cardiff

Re: Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons

My second favourite derby goal (there haven’t been too many to chose from recently….) after Bellamy sent Rangel for a hot dog. Lol

Re: Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons
Let’s see if he can keep it going. Don’t get carried away, just because he scored a goal against a really poor Swansea team, who never looked like winning. As Welsh Derbies go, both teams contributed to a poor spectacle. Home advantage made the difference.

I think most people have been impressed with him since the start of pre season so I don’t think it’s because he “scored a goal”.
-
Re: Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons
He looks a different player this season.
The club need to be getting him and his agent into the office and a new long term contract signed asap.

Some say Rangel's still looking for Bellamy

Surely Chopra's is up there too? For the timing if nothing else. One of my all time favourite City moments.

Maybe Bulut knows exactly which buttons to press to get the best out of him
While I’d like to see him start on Tuesday, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he came on at the start of the second half.
I think Bulut will just want him to keep his feet on the ground and not let him get ahead of himself.
Almost as if he has to keep proving himself to the manager.
With regards to his contract being extended, let’s see how he does between here and Christmas first, although I really hope he can make the grade and go on to having a very successful career with us, there’s still lots of hard work ahead

Looked a bit like Jack Grealish, the way he cut inside

There is hard work ahead. But as with the Colwills you need your young players signed up. Cant afford to lose him for nothing in a year. Its a bit of a gamble but worth it I think.

It's a no brainer. Yes there may be more work ahead but he's proved himself at this level and a new contract could only boost his confidence further.

Re: Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons
The goal set the scene for the penalty - the defender was afraid to let him cut inside again.
-
Re: Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons
He deserved a new contract and I think we will offer one. We’re better at this, this season.
I think Bellamy’s was better.
-
Re: Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons
Throne’s header, a free kick from Whitts and I liked Danny Ward’s winner a few years ago.
-
Re: Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons
i lost my shit when bellars went in...
tanners was sublime, and ive not used that word since whitts days... but if it was say 2-2 and tanner did that to win the game it would have been the greatest...
either way in that moment not taking it away from spray tan tanner or anyone the players the fans right in that molecule moment it was sheer bliss

I was joking, but I think Bellamy’s was the better goal, it was a lovely move and a great finish.

That control and first touch was sublime, a star in the making that kid.!
The upcoming left-backs will be terrified, he'll need protection, they are going to kick him and drag him down every time, and the ref will need to yellow card them the first time.

Re: Ollie Tanner - our greatest derby goal in many seasons
Bellamy’s was a 35 yard screamer after sending Rangel running 10 yards the wrong way.
Great goal by Tanner but Bellamys was next level

The point here being that Bellamy was a well seasoned pro', Tanner's the new kid on the block and not played a lot of 1st team football and the way he took that goal was superb and it's unfair to compare it to every screamer scored against them down west since Jesus was at school.
Hail the new kid on the block, the weekends his end of.

The Defender got himself in a dog awful position, square on and flat footed. You would have thought that the jacks would have sent someone out there with him, no position to be in for a defender. Oh well.....

The confidence is what impressed me most. Just come on, very little game time, yet he has the belief to take the player on and buzz the ball across the keeper. Plenty of seasoned pro's would passed that one on.

Utter, unadulterated rubbish, as usual.

Didn’t Bulut sub him at Ipswich due to his lack of tracking back, this after he’d delivered a sublime cross for Meite to put us two up which, unfortunately, he buggered up. Let’s hope Bulut doesn’t get too ‘technical’ with him. A natural ‘just run at ‘em’ type of footballer is a nightmare for defenders, if he was playing to orders when he came on last night, fair play to Bulut but I prefer to believe that Tanner came on with the attitude of ‘f*ck ‘em, they’re having it tonight, tracking back? Balls to that, others can cover for me’.

Absolutely agree....don't over-coach him...let his instincts keep him going direct...defenders are scared of that sort of talent...

Defenders hate players running at them. We should all rejoice in what Tanner did yesterday, it was perfect, a thing of beauty, something we have been starved of for so long. The back down to Earth bit is going to be the rest of his game. I like what you're saying Mo, in terms of allowing him to do it naturally, but there will be times when he isn't going to get the better of a fullback, or the ball isn't going to bounce for him. Which means that he's going to have to rely on the other side of the game, like dropping deeper, disrupting play, coming inside etc. We don't really know if he can or will develop into that player. If he can get half decent at the 'Other' stuff, then we may have a player. Colwill is a case in point.
Anyway Mo,lets just enjoy it, wonderful goal, from the pass, touch, the finish and the celebration. Its been a long time coming

For us oldies no other goal in the derby will eclipse John Buchanan’s 35 yard screamer in 1980. It was one of those moments when the crowd seemed to freeze briefly before erupting when the reality of what had just happened sunk in,
