Orlando nightclub mass shooting
I was very surprised to see on the news that with 50 dead, this makes it the deadliest mass shooting in US history.
...and yet they claim to have a "god-given" right to bear arms...spastics.
RIP to the dead.
Anyone offering odds on the US government to be able to reform any gun law in any way ever?

Shocking. RIP to the dead.
The problem is, American Peresidents swear an oath to defend the constitution, part of that constitution is the right to bear arms, so probably political suicide to even go there.
The problem is also that the genie is out of the bottle. There are millions of guns out there, so even if they were to be banned, who's going to try and get them handed in? There's is also a huge arms industry.
But my personal opinion, is while I can almost understand the desire to own a hand gun for self defence, why anyone needs a military grade assault rifle is beyond me.

Re: Orlando nightclub mass shooting
Weren't assault rifles (attempted to be) banned by the Obama administration? The National Rifle Association (a group you'd always love to be in power on your country) blocked this move by Obama.
The 2nd ammendment to the US consitution allows the right to bear arms (an ammendment the the original, remember) as part of a "well-regulated militia again to the tyranny of government.
2nd ammendment....out of 27.
Some of those ammendments to the original have gone against the original constitution, and some have gone against the last ammendment (see prohibition in the '20s).
There's nothing stopping the American people outlawing firearms apart from themselves.

Re: Orlando nightclub mass shooting
I don't know how many people need to be shot before they wake up and realise they need better gun control out there rather than let any tom dick or harry carry a leathal weapon shocking but not surprising RIP to all

In fairness, this one seems to be an Afghan guy who just happens to despise gays, and so felt the need to slaughter them (rather than someone who believes that the almighty Allah has commanded him to kill the infidel).

His book of fairytales tells him that gays are too be killed so I'd say it's very much to do with his rancid death cult.

To be fair, he did pledge allegiance to IS before the killing apparently.
Imagine if the killers of Lee Rigby had easy access to assault rifles...

The awkward moment when no-one reads the article that I posted
My views are not a contradiction, Islam is a progressive religion, just is that you lot don't know anything about it and are making assumptions. Seriously, do you lot have nothing better to do rather than bash a religion to score points? I am Muslim coz I wanna be one, not due to any pressures. My advice is to let go of your Islamophobic prejudices and don't listen to the media or extreme viewpoints

What are you on? And I believe in a God, that's the main reason why I'm Muslim

Never in my time on this message board have I understood why you seem to hold the holy decision on who's Muslim and who isn't...

Any gun control measures brought in now will, unfortunately be at least a hundred years to late, there are far to many guns in circulation.

You, and your clerics may say that, the problem is that IS think they are Muslim, and are carrying out these atrocities, if not in your name, the name of your religion,

if anyone is still in any doubt about how properly mental US gun laws are, a man who was twice investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a potential terrorist was legally able to buy one of these over the counter:

They claim to to have a constitutional right, which in fact, they have. If you want to be a drama queen at least get your facts right.

Re: Orlando nightclub mass shooting
It's the seventh mass shooting in the US in just the last week. Bringing this guy's religion into it is missing the real problems that Americans have with guns.

Do you feel the same way about any effort to 'control' religion in USA or other western countries?
-
Re: Orlando nightclub mass shooting
OK, I live in the US. We need gun control. The reason is simple - no guns means less capacity for random deadly violence.
But this isn't just about the availability of weapons, there is an attitude issue too. The US leads the world in terms of the number of guns per capita but there are a lot of guns in, for instance, Canada too. Yet the Canadians have a murder rate that is about 10% of that in the US.
