Yesterday's players who should make up the first Xl next season.
If we are to improve there must be some changes.
McGregor No
Richards Yes
Morrison Yes if Manga doesn't stay
Bamba Yes
Bennett. Not sure. If he can keep improving Yes.
Gunnarsson Yes
Whittingham ............arghh...........No
Noone No
Hoilett No
Zahore Yes
Harris Possibly but he needs to do more, every game.
Halford No
Pilkington No
My own issue with the above is that we concede too many goals and don't score enough. A. Better midfield would improve that. Do we need new defenders, apart from Bamba, and will we find them?

Morrison actually won a header yesterday, unfortunately it was in the opposition's box, AGAIN.
When is he going to win a defensive header.

I thought Jazz Richards has been playing well since he came back into the team & had a very good game yesterday so I would definitely have him as a 'yes.' Although Peltier defends well he offers little going forward whereas Jazz can do both jobs.

Yeah, he did ok yesterday, but not seen enough to make him a definite yes for me.

McGregor is unaffordable, Harris and Hoilett out of contract unfortunately. We need at least one more quality fullback and a creative goalscoring midfielder.

Accepting that they all work hard ........
Bennett, Richards, Hoilett, Ralls, Harris, Zahore are often 6 out of 10 players, sometimes 8
They all need to step up to a minimum 7 every game and push for 8 and more.
In a winning team yes. But not this season.
To win promotion we need a team averaging 8 not 6.

Re: Yesterday's players who should make up the first Xl next season.
Is try to keep Harris and Hoilett, Ralls for Whitts and maybe Huws for Noone with Kennedy as competition for Harris. From yesterday it's just Ralls for Whitts and Huw's for Noone for me. Bennett has been excellent last few weeks and is nailed on for me, with full back competition/cover from John, Peltier and Connolly we are sorted.
Also Pilkington to cover a few spots- so I'd keep him... another striker, box to box midfield ball winner to compete with Gunnar. Maybe Saadi back or Healey as 3rd striker and we have the nucleus of a decent 1st team squad.
Not given up on Lambert yet as a decent bench option either.
Will need a keeper, would love to keep McGregor, but other names mentioned would also be decent, definitely Ruddy or even Hennessy or Lindegaard - all fine.
Maybe another pacy winger ?
Where the hell is Fred by the way ?

I think Zohore has earned the right to have his name spelt correctly:thumbup:

Unbelievable, and I thought you had to give up the booze?
Mozza wins the majority of his aerial battles, try actually watching him next time.
While you're at it, try watching the game as well.

There's great stats web site that has Morrison asceinning far more headers per game than any other City player and also is our top performer overall.
He might benefit from shaving his hair off or dying it red so that people would notice better the contribution he makes.
He isn't perfect and does sometimes lose duels he should win and sometimes his distribution is poor, but he's a good centre half. Under-rated by our fans.

Exactly, if his distribution was a little better though, he wouldn't be playing for us!
Very good player in both 18 yard boxes, and has had TV pundits and commentators regularly praising his aerial prowess.
I'm amazed how little fans actually notice whilst at a game, and are quite judgemental, without having a clue about what they're talking about.

So, if they all stay, then we'd have 9 players all capable of being first XI already at the club. Add in Murphy, Connolly, Ralls, Kennedy (perhaps), Manga (perhaps) and maybe Saadi too and we have a decent basis for next year.
-
Re: Yesterday's players who should make up the first Xl next season.
Saadi I reckon will be sold and Manga will be gone.
Someone needs to have a word with Morrisson winning headers in the opposition box and setting up a goal.
I dont think we are far off being a team capable of challenging.

Warnock has already stated we can't afford McGregor's wages, the same applies to Manga and Whitts. They are not going to stay on vastly reduced terms. He also has 6 million to spend on 4 new players and has not been impressed with the likes of Noone and John, whilst there are rumours that Harris will not be staying.

Re: Yesterday's players who should make up the first Xl next season.
And don't forget Fred.
He's in the deepest CCS cryo-labs being rebuilt, and about to be revealed as RoboFred - half man, half striker. He will tear up the championship next season. Probably.

Unless Jimmy the Jock confirms he is garbage, Fred will never be a player.

As you don't like Williams, I don't like Morrison, if you got a problem with that, THEN TOUGH:hehe::hehe:
-
Re: Yesterday's players who should make up the first Xl next season.
I don't understand why Morrison gets so much stick from our fans.
He's playing really well at the moment and is perfect cover for Bamba who often tries to get in front of the centre forward whereas Morrison is more disciplined in keeping his line.
Bamba and Manga as a pairing would probably be a disaster as they both come out of position far too often.

Better than shitting in his pants. Shows he can adapt when under pressure

I spit water all over my screen reading that. Hilarious.
Also, he gets far too much stick. He's good in the air and he tries. He makes mistakes but that's why he's playing for us, also he's got 12 goals in 106 league games which is better than one in ten. Connolly has 7 in 130 and Ralls has 10 in 120, to put that in some perspective.

Havent see enough of him recently to give him the kiss of death that could revamp his career.

This- all day.
Besides which Manga is injured every time he buggers off to Africa to play, so we are lucky to get 20 games out of him, he's also extremely unlikely to stay.
With the wages he's on there's no chance.
He's off. So best to get behind the ones who DO turn up and put a shift in week in week out for us.

I agree, I love to watch Manga, and Bamba play, but together I fear they may be a bit too much of a luxury.
Morrisons stats speak for themselves, and so does the respect he gets from fellow pros, and managers.

Just surprised that you have doubts about Morrison,Bennett,Hoilett and Harris.I would keep them all in a heartbeat. The MacGregor and Manga issue is purely financial otherwise I would keep them too.If Manga goes I think we should keep Ajayi.

Re: Yesterday's players who should make up the first Xl next season.
Somebody has to go.
We are not good enough.
Of Saturday's 11 Ralls would challenge Whitts for that place
But that wouldn't turn us into a promtion winning team.
Hard decisions need to be made and better players brought in.
Statistically one player is unlikely to make the difference, two might, but it probably needs three first teamers

Yes. Warnock once suggested he needs 4 players (though I think that has increased). I would suggest at least 3 of them need to be regular starters to provide the improvement Warnock wants to have a go at promotion (his desire).
Take Harris and Hoilett out of the equation and we have no pace in the side. We also don't have too many natural footballers in our midfield. When we got promoted last time those were the problems we had - unfortunately neither Solskjaer nor Slade did anything to correct this.
It's interesting to look at what Warnock has done (and some things he's tried haven't worked, that's to be expected). In Bennett and Richards we have two full backs who are relatively comfortable on the ball and get forward often. Hoilett provided an injection of pace initially, now Harris has come on leaps and bounds too. Players like Pilkington and Whittingham, good technically, don't really fit into this. He knows we're not a team that pass the ball around like other sides as we haven't got those players in our squad, so we've become a bit more direct. He's also added a hunger and work ethic, and a leader on the pitch (La Bamba). I feel that they're giving as good as they can
