His wages here would have been inflated after the promotion season, and i would imagine this contract would have seen a significant drop. I imagine he could recoup some of that money by signing as a free agent for someone else, with a good signing on fee.
What a player he has been for us though. One of the best ever?

Matthew Connolly just tweeted a picture of Whits and some sad face emoticons. Emoticons don't lie.

Has he used emotions or emojis? If emojis then he's as good as gone.

And that lays firmly at Warnocks door.
Its obvious he didnt want him and Whitts should have been afforded a proper goodbye.

Re: Whittingham to Blackburn?
A sad way to end his time with City.

I know he had a job to do but why he took him off after an hour against Newcastle I don't know.

For me it should have been announced before the Newcastle game that he was to leave end of the season, same as John Terry at Chelsea.
No problem taking him off on the hour but the least he could have done was not rushed him off in a double substitution!!
I think Whitts deserved much better than that. I know he wouldnt have wanted to take to the microphone after the game like Terry did but at least everyone would have known it was goodbye.

Re: Whittingham to Blackburn?
Gutted. My favourite city player for the last decade..

To be fair he was offered a contract and I think Warnock would have wanted to keep him, maybe he was expecting to stay but the opportunity of regular football is appealing?

Oh paleeease. Warnock had no interest in keeping him.

Re: Whittingham to Blackburn?
STATS: Peter Whittingham
457 games
96 goals
93 assists
4 or 5 times where he almost celebrated a goal
Legend.

Re: Whittingham to Blackburn?
I didnt go to the Newcastle game, however i thought that the Brentford game was a fitting send off for him. In my mind it was my goodbye to him as kind of knew i wouldnt be attending the 2 non-weekend games, and i knew his time was up at the club.
It was a game where he played a bit further forward, set up and scored a goal got taken off on 90 minutes, and got well applauded off.
In that respect i dont hold the bitterness towards his treatment as some who attended the following games.

At a price the club felt was worth his age and playing time ,, this happens everywhere

Then be upfront and honest about it not offer a contract hes never going to sign to make it look like Whitts has walked out on the rather than the fact Warnock didnt want him.
Should have been told he can go with the clubs blessing

He's offered him a year on peanuts, I'm with you. Warnock didn't really want him here.

Football being up front , when , how , why , lead by non accountable, irrational bodies.

Gutted
Legend is said too often but honestly will be remembered as one of the best
Personally dont get it as he can still do a hell of a job though admittedly he's not as quick as he used to be (not that he was ever that quick) but if you want somebody to put the ball exactly where it should be there's nobody better
Find it strange he's going to League 1 when he's still probably the best passer of a ball in the championship.
Thanks for the memories Peter

Peanuts/Championship footballer ... do those words go together?
What exactly was this derisory amount he was offered then?

Re: Whittingham to Blackburn?
End of an era. Truly a class act and a quality footballer.

I see some similarities with Graham Kavanagh. Kav, rightly, is a City legend, though it would be fair to say that he had his critics when we were in that division. Kav certainly performed better for us in the Championship (or Division 1 as it was then) - there were times he found League 1 hard going.

Re: Whittingham to Blackburn?
The move to L1 is probably more down to length of contract than anything.
I can't see a Champ club giving him any more than a year .
In a way I'm pleased he won't come back to haunt us.
And as for a send off, we gave him one against Newcastle when he went off and also after the game at Huddersfield.
It should be off the cuff, not a stage show like that ridiculous Terry circus

I haven't really watched league 1 but would surprise me if this is the case

Re: Whittingham to Blackburn?
Goodbye Whitts and thanks for all you did for our club.
You were the star in our second Golden Age no doubt at all.
Best of luck for the future.
I wonder who the " Whittingham fan club " who sit behind me at CCS will
find to moan about next season.

Re: Whittingham to Blackburn?
Whitts is one of the best players we have ever had at Cardiff and has provided many of the best moments of my City supporting years. We've been very lucky to have him here and I guarantee we're going to miss his ability to open up defences with his passing.
I had hoped we'd give him one more year to make him available to produce the passes that I believe Zohore will be up to thriving on this coming season. Unfortunately we have no-one in the team with that vision any more unless Warnock buys someone this summer.
Goodbye and good luck with the rest of your career Whitts - it's been an absolute pleasure and privilege to watch you play. I hope we see you around Penarth again once you finish your career, you'll always be welcome here.
