I think it's fantastic that one of these has come out of nowhere

Re: Wales squad announcement for Denmark and Albania
Why are we playing Albania? Hopefully every first teamer gets a rest for that one and we can see the "future".

Re: Wales squad announcement for Denmark and Albania
Anyone else embarrassed that there's not one City player in the squad?

Other than Jazz, who’s nowhere near the city squad at the moment, who do we have that qualifies?

Exactly, as the capital city club in the country and, historically, its best team it is a pathetic situation.

The situation makes the anti-English songs at CCS rather ironic.

Embarrassed - no. Disappointed - yes.

Yes, but it has pretty much been like this for about 6-7 seasons. Last real regular was Bellamy and before that Darcy Blake.
Not great really.
Swansea regulars include Taylor, Davies, Williams, Allen... Roberts now will no doubt overtake Gunter, Rodon, James to come.
Poor showing on the international front for Cardiff.

Absolutely, just a bit alien to what we're used too! Good for him.

I think Giggs is judging by his comments.

You joking? Some aren't even embarrassed that we have an English captain!

It should be embarrassing for the club. We're in our 16th season since promotion from the 3rd tier, have been a top half Championship side in all bar one of our last 12 seasons at that level, having won 2 promotions and finished in the playoffs 3 times, not to mention reaching the final of both major cup competitions in that time.
Over the last decade we must be one of the top 30 sides in the English football pyramid, yet our youth setup produces nothing. Agreed. Shameful. Plus it's a relatively cheap way of finding players providing they are nurtured.

I'm not as clued up as you on the youth players maybe you could double check and correct me if I'm wrong but checking the u21's squad from earlier this year I only noticed 3/18 was Cardiff players

Re: Wales squad announcement for Denmark and Albania
Ampadu on the bench for Chelsea tonight, so at least he's fit again.

Coxe and Harris were the only two in the last squad, Ashley Baker's there too but we released him earlier in the year (he's now a regular at Sheffield Wednesday). The current under-19 squad has five of the Academy lads though, would be six if Spence was fit.

Bowen didn't stand out but maybe I've just caught him slightly off his best. Early days yet for them all, of course, but there's plenty of promise there.

To answer Wales-Bales' question, I think Paul Bodin has picked the stand out players currently available to him from the City squad. As you say, I'm sure Sion Spence would have been there if he was fit and I notice that Keenan Patten, another important member of the Academy team midfield who had been out for a couple of months, was involved in last week's Welsh Youth Cup win over Tiger Bay.
I've been a big fan of Isaak Davies since I saw him score a great hat trick against Crystal Palace Under 16s a couple of years ago, he's currently playing in a wider role to accommodate the arrival of Dan Griffiths, but he is still scoring regularly. Griffiths has made a big difference to the side because, unlike during a lot of recent seasons, it means we have a focal point for our attacks. For me, Ratcliffe is the best Academy keeper I've seen for a while and he is as good with his feet as any City keeper I've seen. Reynolds is a versatile player who can be used as a full back, centreback and central midfielder - he also has experience of playing for our Under 23 team. As you would expect from a son of Jason Bowen, Sam has very good technical ability and knits things together well in midfield - while younger players such as Ruben Colwell and Eli King have done well in central midfield in Spence and Patten's absence, I believe Bowen would be more prominent in games than he has been recently if those two were alongside him.
jamieccfc, as I mentioned in another thread relating to young players at City this week, our problem is not representation in Wales age group squads, it's the last step of the journey which sees the conversion from Academy or Development team football into the first team or senior Wales squad which we have such a problem with.

Re: Wales squad announcement for Denmark and Albania
Since we are on the topic of Wales U19 squad, I made a post elsewhere about Dylan Levitt who is also part of the group. The included video shows a fine passer of the ball for one so young.

Along with Smith, Matondo, Ampadu, Woodburn. Brooks, Wilson, Mepham, etc., it seems like all the hard work of Osian Roberts is finally paying dividends. I just hope a couple of decent strikers are also able to make the stepup, as that would be the icing on the cake. Maybe the two City lads?
