Even our women's team is useless
Getting beaten at moment by the Jacks

Re: Even our women's team is useless
The Swansea RB looks like they could make it to the next level.
Overall, I would say there has been something for everyone in the first half: if you want to say women's football is rubbish then there have been moments to support your argument, if you want to say women's football is a slightly different game but still highly skilled and enjoyable then there is evidence here to support that, if you want to watch a south Wales derby with lots of tackles (some very tasty) and passion then there have been moments for you too.

Re: Even our women's team is useless
2-0 now. Swansea showing decent flashes of skill. Our team is so so poor. Bad as the men.
-
Re: Even our women's team is useless
I've given it a good go but given up on it. Good luck to them but the quality of play is akin to parks football and is live on TV simply because it's a ladies game. A men's game of this standard wouldn't get anywhere near live TV.

Re: Even our women's team is useless
women's football is utter shit

0-3. Hang your heads in shame ladies.

Re: Even our women's team is useless
Birmingham v. Everton last night was a good quality as was Norway Wales a week or so back. Think what we saw was primarily the consequence of first game back from lockdown - don't forget how rusty both Wales and England's senior men's sides were against Finland and Iceland respectively - and not being fully professional with the smaller budgets/competing priorities that arise from that.
Despite this, I still think there were moments of quality, the Swansea RB for example, and hope it's the first game of many on TV so game can continue to grow here.

Re: Even our women's team is useless
Women’s football would be better if they made the goals smaller. Usually any thing struck over 6ft but below 8ft is a goal. Women keepers just don’t have the physical stature for regulation sized goals. It’s not a slight. Like the play 3 sets in tennis they should makes the goals smaller. They’ll have a better game.

I only saw a couple of minutes of the Norway women v Wales women game - and it included the pathetic goalkeeping error that let the Norwegians score. It can be seen at 1 min 15 secs on this video:

The average height of a goalkeeper in the women's game is the same as the average height was in the mens game when the size of the goals were determined.

they show the women's 100 metres in the olympics even though the winner of the womens race would be last in every round of the mens competition.
It doesn't matter.
Once you stop trying to compare it to men's football and get used to the flow of the women's game then it can be enjoyable too.

Interesting. Back in them days you could change goalies into the net as well. Goalies are the weak part of women’s football. They should look into it.

They'll definitely improve rapidly over the next few years I think as increased funding and coverage increases participation and coaching.
There was an interview with an england international women's goalkeeper who aid she hadn't even had any specialist goalkeeping coaching until she was in her 20s, just expected to get on with it.

Re: Even our women's team is useless
The goalkeeping is a bit weird, do get lobbed a lot but also the handling in general is very poor. Probably something in the spacial awareness and reaction times between sexes.

Re: Even our women's team is useless
So far, the jacks have played us in competitive football three times this season, they've won on each occasion while scoring a total of eleven goals and conceding two (one of which was a penalty). While our Under 23s, Under 18s and ladies sides losing to their Swansea counterparts isn't what you'd call devastating, it does tend to confirm the theory that everything at Cardiff is geared to the mens senior team - while this is broadly true at every club, it applies much, much more here than at most other clubs in my opinion.

I didn't suggest that the error summed up women's football, old fruit.
Best re-read what I actually wrote and not imagine that it was a fixation of any description.

Probably more to do with standards of coaching and the number of players in the game.
Watch table tennis or badminton at the olympic and there's absolutely nothing wrong with their spacial awareness or reaction times.
Men are stronger and faster obviously

Re: Even our women's team is useless
I was reading up a bit on the womens US team, got me interested after i saw in the news that Alex Morgan lass just signed for Spurs ladies (she's a proper sort by the way!!). Some of those ladies for the USA have got international caps in the 200-300 mark!! i think there were some who've actually got over 300 caps over 20 years or something. Thats mental. The physical demand on the body maybe different on the ladies game, perhaps not so many injuries i don't know but the goalscoring record was like 180 international goals for 1 player aswell.
Might give the ladies game a watch at some point see what sort of standard its like as i've been totally oblivious to it until now.

In my experience it takes a while to "get your eye in", and get used to the pace and ebb and flow of the games.
Just like mens and womens tennis typically have a quite different structure to the points

You watched a women's football game for a "couple of minutes", watched so closely you didn't realise which colour Wales were playing in so you first thought it was a Norwegian error and now have brought up that moment in two separate threads, though admittedly the first time was just commenting on the game. This time however was in response to me talking about the quality, and sometimes lack of it, in the women's game.
How would you like me to read it?

Aye. But the average bird is taller now than when the washing line was invented tbf. Some advantage.

I referred to an isolated incident and didn't suggest for one minute that it characterised the women's game in general. The fact that I only watched a couple of minutes of the game also made clear that I was in no position to make any sort of generalisation. I think you are on the wrong horse here....

It was a good goal, and the assist was class.
Maybe you have to have a different set of expectations of what is world class when watching the womens game - but that doesn't have to detract from the entertainment.
Serena Williams serves at 170 km/h - which is world class in the womens game.
THe fct that it woudn't be that impressive in the mens game is neither here nor there when you're watching womens tennis. The matches can be just as exciting as the mens.
Pete sampras served at about 220 km/h - that doesn't mean his games were automatically more entertaining than any of the womens games.
If Cardiff score an exact replica of that goal on the weekend then everyone on here would be creaming themsolves over it.

Yes. Take a look at the Norway goal against Wales. Commentators waxing lyrical but our goalkeeper was what you would expect at junior school level

Didn't she do something similar in the last minute of another qualifier a while back?

A Rabona from that distance is something in itself but the vision and execution is another level. That lady is good!
Not many people have the confidence in themselves to risk pulling that off except perhaps the likes of Ronaldo, Ibrahimaovic or Pogba.

Yes I don't think Ibrahimovic lacks the confidence :hehe:

Haha not likely!
Here's one though, perhaps she did it knowing that the standard of women's goalkeeping ain't great!
I know, I know... I know what some might be thinking that I am women's football bashing but I think most would agree that the average height of a woman goalkeeper is a lot less than a man. With the the posts being the same size for both codes, there has to be a better chance of pulling that off, even if they have similar abilities.
Not taking anything away from the lady in question mind, just a brilliant goal.

Re: Even our women's team is useless
Why didn't she hit it left footed? I think hitting hit with your weaker foot is definitely easier than poncing around trying to Rabona it. Just proves to me generally how one footed a player is.
