Ryan Giles - season loan agreement - CONFIRMED
https://www.footballinsider247.com/c...es-star-giles/
Cardiff City have agreed to sign Wolves midfielder Ryan Giles after a breakthrough in talks, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Welsh club have beaten off interest from multiple Championship clubs to win the race for the 21-year-old Englishman.
A Cardiff source has told Football Insider that the club have reached an agreement with Wolves over a season-long loan.
He's never played for Wolves except one cup game - but under contract for another 4 years. Been on loan at Rotherham, Telford, Shrewsbury and Coventry. If this is true, then we are bringing in a second midfielder without any of the current crop leaving! Seems very odd (unless Pack is now a CB?). Priorities surely still LB and wing?

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
I think hes going to be our LWB.

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
I think Giles is a left wing back/winger. We’ll probably see where Mick sees him playing depending on whether we sign one or the other!
-
Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
Its good that we are doing our business early. I cant see many more coming in maybe an attacking midfielder on loan.
We probably need a few out but other than Whyte I dont see anyone moving on.
I dont see the big bids coming in for Kiefer after our euro exit so more optimistic he stays.

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
I read a report that said he likes playing deep. So with all the defensive midfielders we seem to have perhaps we will be playing with 8 at the back and Moore and Bale up front!!

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
Have seen this guy play for Shrewsbury and he was very good. He was used mainly as a winger or an attacking wingback. Only slight problem with him is when he was used as an attacking wingback he sometimes neglected his defensive duties. Very quick and quite skilful he impressed Shrewsbury fans greatly they would have signed him in a heartbeat but knew he was destined for bigger things.
Good signing in my view and will give us more going forward.

Makes you wonder if MM would play him at wingback considering his refusal to play a Winger at wing back last season and nstead playing brown.

Or will he be another LFW

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
For anyone who watched the Rotherham games during their run in and in the game against us, the guy played as a wing back
He was very, very good playing in a team out on their feet
This will be an excellent signing if it’s comes off

Unless there’s already an agreed option to buy I just don’t understand this one

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
Left wing back
Very good at crossing likes getting forward
Very good engine
Not so good at coming back
Most suitable in a 3-5-2 set up
Played for MM at youth level
Smithies and Phillips at Goalkeeper
So that's Ng and Sang at RWB
Bagan and Giles at LWB
Morrison Flint, Nelson, Brown, McGuiness Centre Halves
Midfield Ralls Wintle Vaulks Bacuna Pack Colwill
Strikers Moore Collins Harris Watters
Treatment Table Vassell and Tomlin
It's a large squad - I'd guess some are leaving

Only 24. You’ve missed the other 2 keepers plus the lads that have just signed professional forms & of course Bale.
You’ve sold Murphy and Whyte already

Didn’t Joe plus some others convert to USM when Colin was running the show ?

Perhaps, Warnock Jr is one of their agents. Bacuna and quite a few of our players are represented by them

I guess. I wonder if he was the left winger Dalman was on about, though? I'm assuming not but we are very light in terms of creative midfielders/wingers. If you include Giles as a wing back, we have 15 defensive players, whatever Bacuna is and then Murphy, Colwill and Tomlin as the only attacking minded midfielders, plus the 4 strikers.

Big Mick seems to think that Bacuna is an attacking midfielder.
I reckon that we'll be predominantly playing 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 and relying on our wing-backs for width.

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
If we're not in a position to splash the cash this is exactly the sort of signing we should be making. Good to see.
-
Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement?
Its a bit dissapointing that us and Wolves went up in the same year and now we are loaning their castoffs who havent even played for them yet.

He was asked about the prospect of replacing Bennett. He then says "I like to get forward, my main traits are getting forward, trying to take players on. I want to get fans off their feet, I want to put balls in the box, create goals, score goals... and also do my bit of the team defensively". The last bit was a bit of an after thought :hehe:

Do you think he meant “out of their seats” ?

Murphy mk 2? Let's see the lad play and see what he can offer.

Strange as MM has never wanted to use a Winger at wing back. It wouldn't surprise me if we seem him further forward.

I hope we do play him at wing back

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement - CONFIRMED
Maybe the intention is to use him wide left with Bagan behind him?

It was the in joke when Warnock was manager, that he only seemed to sign players from them and for whom his son worked!

Re: Ryan Giles - season loan agreement - CONFIRMED
He's a useful signing as he undoubtedly covers wingback and wing. So he's an option as left wing in a 442 or a wingback in our seemingly proffered formation. That's not something anyone else gives us

He's very quick.
Fans from the multiple clubs he's played for all say the same thing... Very quick and skillful, prone to being out of position when supposed to be playing wing back due to his natural attacking biased.
Great addition in my opinion.
