Re: M25 Blocked in Both Directions
Good to see the police acting quickly to remove the protesters to get the motorway back open.

Re: M25 Blocked in Both Directions
Absolutely ridiculous, totally unacceptable. Tougher sentences are needed for people who will cause that level of disruption.
Imagine how slated these protesters would be if it wasn't for a cause so many in the media are sympathetic to.

And what if they prevented an ambulance getting to an emergency. Thoughtless idiots.

If every home in the UK was properly insulated, people wouldnt be facing the horrendous energy bills that are coming our way shortly.

Re: M25 Blocked in Both Directions
If it wasn't this it would be something else. People have too much time on their hands at the moment.
Get them off furlough and back at work.
If they haven't got a job get a HGV licence or pick fruit in Norfolk

Wasn't a woman seriously injured last week? Caused by the protestors.

Re: M25 Blocked in Both Directions
The traffic jams are causing much more pollution too…..

Re: M25 Blocked in Both Directions
I'm sympathetic to their purpose and its nice that some people care enough to try to get change.
You can see how the world reacts to very real and imminent threats like covid, yet for something that creeps up on you the reaction by those in power is laboured.
But... There has to be a better way than pissing everyone off.
There must be targets they could focus on which would be equally as covered by the media but cause far less frustration, anger and disruption to the every day man and woman just trying to get about their day.

Fire bomb a few petrol stations.
That will keep the traffic down.

Nearly every cause is just on one level, but the that doesnt mean the actions are justified. I also suspect it does their cause no good.
You cant just do what the hell you like and disrupt everyone's lives. That is just arrogance and entitlement and not connected to democracy or protest at all.
It's a form of vandalism, its dangerous to them and other users and they should be dealt with harshly.

Re: M25 Blocked in Both Directions
If we were a reasonable, common sense species there wouldn't be this problem with the climate. It's been flagged up for decades and barely anything has changed; in fact, the fuel industries have worked hard to shut dissenters up. Most often, disruption is the only way. You might disagree with the details but that's how we are.

Except the UK has done better than most other countries in decarbonising and in terms of renewal energy production, particularly wind energy.
It's the narcissistic fanaticism of it, and disregard for other opinions. It will achieve nothing. They are better off encouraging a boycott of Chinese (and other high carbon country) products if they want to be radical.
There will always be more to do and always causes people care about but you cant just decide you want to disrupt everyones lives because of it.

You might want to let governments know this because I find they're the biggest disruptors of lives and always have been.
Brexit has been a bigger disruption to more businesses and lives than a pathetic protest on the M25. Just sayin'.

I think you are comparing apples with aeroplanes.
We left the EU because we had a referendum and more people voted leave than voted remain. Other countries outside the EU include; Japan, USA, Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Iceland etc. All government policy disrupts and changes things; that's their job. The difference is governments are voted in. It's called democracy.
It's not comparable to a bunch of people deciding to stop traffic and disrupt peoples lives because they feel like it. It's not on and if you think it's okay for people to wander into the M25 whenever they care about something then I 100% disagree with you.

You sound like you live in Tunbridge Wells and still use blotting paper. You’d have called Mandela, King and Ghandi narcissists for protesting about things they cared about. The same things were said about their protests too. You should be glad there are people out there doing something. Voting has got us nowhere. There are a lot of us who think like this.
What good is democracy when all you vote in are liars and corruption?

Nonsense on numerous levels. You sound like a fanatic and pretty selfish too. Good luck blocking the M4 then mate. Not sure that tin foil hat will protect you from traffic. There are ways and means of protesting and this isn't it, not least because it damages what is an important cause and clearly there is total disregard for anyone caught up in it.
Incidentally, UK carbon emissions have dramatically fallen in the last two decades and we are well above most countries in the use of clean energy.
So quite clearly voting is getting us somewhere in this regard so your post is wrong on almost every level.

Exactly the same arguments used against Mandela, King, Ghandi. I’ve been listening to people like you for decades. If your way of doing things is the right one, then wouldn’t the environment be in a better place now? We knew all about the extinction event on the horizon decades ago?
Your way of doing things hasn’t worked……mate.

Ghandi and Mandela were fighting against undemocratic governments; in Mandelas case against a racist government who kept people as second class citizens.
Martin Luther King was protesting against a system that treated people differently because of their race.
To compare that to Tarquin, Esme and Talulah blocking the M4 because of their radical beliefs in respect of climate change (when our country has made substantial positive moves in recent years and is far far better at this than others) is narcissistic and unreasonable.
Climate change is a critical topic, but you have to take people with you. This kind of action may work well with the Socialist Worker crowd, but in the real world it pisses people off, causes great disruption and turns people against the cause.
Personally I think the principle of properly insulating homes is absolutely critical; it helps us use less energy and theoretically saves consumers money too.
The issue is the way they go about it in a selfish way and also the way they ignore the progress made.
As stated; if they want to make a big difference then argue against imports from China, protest at the Chinese or Indian embasssy, support a home-grown agricultural sectors.
There is loads to do without f*****g over ordinary folk trying to live their lives.

Do you think the majority of people would be pro or against this protest?

Lets hope there are cars or emergencies vehicles effected and someone dies as a consequence , anyone would think we'd done nothing on climate we are 17th in the world for CO2 Emissions by Country well better than a lot including all singing and dancing Germany .

It only took a couple of minutes, but I was responding to your points.
Complex issues need more than a few lines - that's twitter's problem, and probably a reason so many people with radical and unreasonable views garner a lot of their views from twitter.

One woman suffered a stroke , and another was due to have a child , others had real important appointments lots had children and old folk trapped in their cars all good I guess .
I would suggest the argument is won in the UK on global warning, time for this lot to man up and bugger off to China , India , Russia , USA the real polluters or is it case were too soft on protesters and they know it .

Come on, you're better than this. The woman suffering a stroke was going to anyway. The woman due a child was risking it going on the M25 in the first place. The M25 is the dog's breath of a motorway and is to be avoided at all costs. I've literally lost days of my life stuck on the M25 over my lifetime. Idiots driving like idiots cause more death and carnage than a few misguided but well-intentioned protesters.
FWIW I think these kinds of protests are doing more harm than good but I weighed in yesterday because of the cynical language and attitudes of many e.g. tree-huggers, narcissists, scum etc. which is just playing into the divide and conquer tactics of the media and governments who want to demonise environmental protesters.
Sometimes things are so important that it takes radical action to initiate change. This has been true throughout history, hence my references to some of the biggest protesters and movements who were also demonised by the establishments of the time.
It's the cynism that I can't abide. I have no problem with discussion and suggesting different ways of doing things but I can't stand the cheap shots or the flag-waving, patriots who think being 17th in some meaningless table of meaningless data actually has any meaning at all.
So yeah, I'll fight their corner when they're being ganged up on by a bunch of cynics. Sometimes I do it because I truly believe in the cause, and sometimes I do it because I don't like the name-calling.
