https://www.skysports.com/football/n...forest-manager
An announcement is expected later on Tuesday with a deal for Steve Cooper to take over at the City Ground finalised; Nottingham Forest agreed compensation with his former club Swansea late last week; he left Swansea in July after leading them to the Championship play-offs.

Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
They have to be happy with that.

Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
Must have promised him a half decent war chest.
-
Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
Why would Forest need to pay compensation to Swansea ?

It's like donating to the needy
It's a humanitarian thing to do
Like foodbanks

Bet he does well there.
Even tempted at 80/1 for promotion

He was contracted until the end of the 2021/22 season when they parted company.

Poison Chalice - I’ll give him 12 months

Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
Good appointment but only if they give him time, their squad is a real mess and needs to be rebuilt. They also have an excellent academy which has bailed them out over the years, Cooper will be able to utilise that

He will do well there if given time..

Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
I don’t know a great deal in terms of the ins and outs and inner workings of either forest or the jacks, but what a strange course of events from how the last season ended. Would have taken Cooper down the city if offered.

Agree. It’s going to be interesting to see how he does.

I agree, I think he's a really interesting manager and I believe has been highly regarded in the England setup too. I think he would be a better fit than our present one.

Yeah, would have liked to have seen what he could have done with some time here. He seemed to get a lot of heat at Swansea from the fans for - from my limited vantage point - being fairly successful whilst playing half decent football with a fairly limited squad from what I saw. Limited yes, but you can say that about near enough every team in this division to some degree.

Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
I think Cooper would have been a good appointment for Cardiff City
But that's irrelevant
If my aunty was born with bollocks she would have been my uncle

Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
I'd have Keith Cooper over Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Big time. If Tan was half the businessman people think he is he would have sacked MM as soon as Cooper became available. Cooper's the type of manager that could develop younger players and get the team playing football.

There's a Steve Cooper love-in going on here, lads...

How about Tommy Cooper? Born in Caerphilly, so he must be a Bluebird!

You don't have to "love" Cooper to recognise that he's preferable to McCarthy.

He’s far too boring for us.

For whatever reason, Forest do seem to be a hard club to manage - I thought Chris Hughton, who had a very good record in the Championship was a very good appointment, but he was taking them down.

I wonder if that would have continued once it was announced that Alan Tate was coming with him?

They're all just professionals working in the game. There's absolutely no loyalty in football, it's just a job like any other. We are tribal but the players and staff we support couldn't give a toss about us at the end of the day. It's entertainment and I want to be entertained. If I'm honest, there are just eleven players in blue who I support and I want to watch some good footie.
I was going to post a PR montage that Middlesborough put together and Sol Bamba posted on social media on here a few weeks ago that was a complete lie. All shots that were originally taken when he was playing for us but Photoshopped with Middlesborough kit, including the famous salute after scoring. All before he'd even kicked a ball for them. I didn't because it would have looked like sour grapes but in all honesty, I was really impressed with the graphics work!

Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
Did they edit out all the hoofing?
-
Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
You can’t blame Cooper for wanting to leave for a bigger club, so many have there, from roberto to Brendan, to potter, on it goes……

It's an interesting pattern. Swansea's managers generally go on to bigger and better things, while City's managers get sacked.

To be fair Swansea have had some really decent managers , no wonder they are streets ahead of us :sherlock:

Did they really do that? How bizarre.

Swansea have finished ahead of Cardiff in nine of the last eleven seasons, during which time they spent seven consecutive seasons in the Premier League, qualified for the Europa League and won the League Cup.
In the same period, City were managed by such luminaries as Russell Slade, Paul Trollope and Neil Harris.
-
Re: Steve Cooper agrees to become Nottingham Forest manager
His football might have been considered too pragmatic for Swansea but think it could have been a good fit here.
Of course, a young manager looks at the whole club as to whether it's going to advance his reputation and low expectations and big budget at Forest might make them more attractive option currently.

And some people say Vincent Tan doesn’t know what he’s doing……:hehe:

Doesn't is present tense.
Don't think anyone disagrees that Tan didn't know what he was doing and we wasted and awful lot of money going nowhere (maybe even slightly backwards) but, to borrow from another poster, we're now experiencing you reap what you sow. Some of us are arguing that we're now reaping better (enough? Yet to be seen) than we did to get to this point.

I'm going to get some Che Guevara-style tee-shirts in Vincent Tan's image and start selling them outside the ground. How dare you mock our great leader. Slade, Trollope, and Harris were just misunderstood geniuses and ahead of their time (or from another dimension, I get confused).
