Is this a wind up or did he actually say that?

I might have missed a bit but that was how he opened his post match chat on Sky yes.

Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
Does he think he's on Mock The Week in a round called Things A Football Manager Wouldn't Say After Being Trounced 3-0?

It was something like: "We started well and the game plan worked for 28 minutes until they scored."
-
Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
The striking difference for me was how they looked comfortable with the ball at thier feat , we just don't seem to have those skill sets .

He's a melon. The game plan wasn't working because they scored while the said game plan was being implemented. His head has truly gone. **** me.

If we tried it would be something.
Setting up with a 9-1 formation doesn't leave any room for anything but defending and long ball.

Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
he looked a bag of nerves and confrontational during that interview, he needs some time away from management, it's over Mick..
-
Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
Feck me.
Hes bonkers isnt he.?

Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
" I was running across busy roads, blindfolded. I was hit by a truck on the fourth attempt. Up until then, my system was working" Seriously. just go for your own self worth, Mick.

Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
One day we'll have a manager that has another plan for when the original plan only "works" for 28 minutes.

Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
The game plan worked because we created one chance with a long punt up field in the 1st 10 mins and then surrendered possession and intent to the home side for the rest of the half?
If you game plan or ambition is to play 5 CBs, two as wing backs, then their is something fundamentally wrong.

It was his plan that invited pressure and put 7 players on the 18 yard box. He's ****ing mental.

Pack our half with players and hope Swansea didn't score. That was about it.
He was quite happy with it right up until and after their second goal which is why he changed absolutely nothing until Bacuna went down, which was a blessing in disguise right there.

Keep it at nil nil for as long as possible.
It's abysmal.
He has genuinely lost the plot or really wants that pay off that possibly won't come for a while yet.

Crowd the penalty area, Boot it as far as you can. Repeat.

Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
We should have gone with the same team we had against Reading. If we had lost having a go i'd be more reasonable.
That set up and tactics was 1980s rubbish..

To not have to think too much. It is Sunday after all. Everyone's had a long week.

The bloke's got a point. The game plan worked right up until the point of the game where it didn't, and then it all went to shit. Give the guy a new contract.

Nobody played like that in the 80's, sure. teams were direct, but there was some method, like supporting your front player and moving into advances areas. I really believe that we are witnessing a MM meltdown. He's hung on for too long, it's all got a bit much for him, this passing and movement nonsense. He's footballs equivalent of the last Japanese soldier who refused to surrender some 20 years after the war had finished, waiting for a general to turn up in order to relieve him of his duties. Maybe Mehmet can call in Big Ron to give Mick the sad news.

The most bizarre part was McCarthy's claim that the game plan was working because Giles had missed a decent chance and City had won a free kick in a dangerous position.
He's very definitely lost the plot.
-
Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
You could say that about every football match that ever took place "everything was fine until they scored". That's this answer. The guy doesn't give sh1t.

We played 442 in the 80s
This was a new masterplan that's so cunning only Mick and maybe Pep have the tactical nous to see how ahead of his time he is with this 5 center backs team.

Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
They should have had a pen in the 3rd minute.
Feckin gameplan working the daft tw@t.

I can't remember exactly what he said when asked how he would turn it around for Fulham, but it was something along the lines of 'same again.... funny old game football.... you never know.... we are bound to win some time....'.
He also looked like someone who didn't expect to be in the job when Fulham comes around.

He's pinching Jimmy Greaves Catchphrase. That's enough reason to sack him.

It was pretty much that.
I'm over the moon I've spent money to travel and stop overnight Wednesday. 😄
Be a nice few beers down by the Thames pre game I suppose. Some bright spark moved the game to the same night at Chelsea-Malmo though so maybe not as relaxed as first thought.

Maybe I put those particular words in his mouth - but I think I got the sentiment right.
-
Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
Basically the plan was sit back, keep it tight and hope they make a mistake or we get a set peice. Shocking
-
Re: "We started well.....the game plan worked"
"I am bitterly disappointed. It was the same at Blackburn when we had our chances. We had two great chances today and we have got to be better in both boxes, that's for sure. The [first] goal we concede - just giving the ball away we did was disappointing.
"They are a good footballing team and once they go 1-0 in front we have got to go and chase it and got opened up. I am really disappointed in the end.
"I always expect them to give everything, which they do. It's difficult when you are on a run like we are, all of a sudden it doesn't look cohesive and sometimes you get opened up.
"The game-plan worked well at the start, but once we conceded it was disappointing from there on. They give everything they have got, the players, but I would just like us to be better of course."
🤦*♂️🤦*♂️🤦*♂️
What game was he watching

That is putting it mildly.
When was the last team we scored a goal anything LIKE any of their three goals?

So we play 9-1
What if our forward won a corner?
Someone would have to go up, that would only leave 8 in defence.
Far too vulnerable.
