Pretty scary listening to Gen. Nick Carter on the Andrew Marr programme yesterday when he said that of course we would support our NATO allies in Poland in the event of a threat from Russia. Echoes of 1939 I thought, just a different adversary this time. With all that's going on - COVID and climate change - who in their right minds would want to provoke another war in Europe? Insanity.

They don't threaten Western Europe, especially the UK, and are challenging NATO's decision to increase their presence close the the Russian Border. I doubt France would welcome military maneuvers on their doorstep. There's absolutely no way Putin will back down.
